the "list" of planes.
« on: May 25, 2009, 08:24:33 AM »
Mostly "network flights" - as I don't get that many "Local flights" where I am and where the antenna is.....

I open the list of flights.

Gee, it is annoying how much it changes.  Yes, I appreciate things are happening and it is real time.

I am scrolling down the list - still learning how to do this "better".

And I see a flight and as I am about to click on it, the list changes.

Granted if the plane is "lost" then it is deleted from the list, but if other planes are coming/going:  WHY alter the list position?

With maybe the exception of THE first or THE last flight (because of sorting) if other planes are added; where the current plane is should NOT move.

Does that make sense?

Or am I being petty?

I always sort the list be Mode S code by clicking the Mode S heading at the top of the list. Sometimes I sort by Flight ID instead.  The list doesn't jump around much then as new aircraft are placed in the list in a sensible order.

What order are you sorting your lists?

Agreed.  A combination of the right sort order (I use Registration) and the use of a filter (I use Dist < 000300) should give you a manageable list of network aircraft that don't jump all over the place.

Otherwise, yes, it's difficult to keep the list static enough to reliably select an aircraft.   You can also select aircraft on the map though.

To be honest, I am not sure on what they are searched.

Still, isn't my "suggestion" worth doing?

Just click on the headings in the aircraft list and you will see the sort order change.  Remember also that you can use "Preferences" to hide the columns you don't want to see.  I never show "Changed" or "Tracked" as the figures are pretty meaningless.
