AIRNAV request for inclusion in a future version
« on: April 19, 2009, 10:30:21 PM »
Hi Airnav,

The Lat/Long co-ordinates displayed at the bottom left of the screen are in Deg, Secs and Minutes. Is it possible to have this in Decimal degrees as when out and about it would eliminate the need for using my sat nav for pinpointing my location. I could just zoom in and point at my location to get a fix, usefull for when off airfield or at one of the small fields that is not on the supplied map.

Just a thought:-)

Cheers John

Hi John, an interesting thought - I hadn't even noticed that!   Considering in Preferences - Home Station Data; latitude and longitude have to be entered in decimal format, with Negative details for locations west of Greenwich; very surprising really.   It is actually quite easy to work out using the Windows calculator - take 50 degrees 45 minutes 30 seconds - well the 50 stays as 50, then multiply the 45 by 60 to calculate the number of seconds, then add the 30 secs, divide the total by 3600 (total no. of seconds in 1 degree). Example 50 degrees 45' 30" :- 45x60 =2700, add the 30 = 2730, divide by 3600 = 0.75833333, stick the 50 back in front and you've got 50.758333333, doubtless there will be a conversion program somewhere on'tnet, or it could be done very easily with Excel (but don't ask me how!  -  the maths I can cope with, but not spreadsheets!!).

Or use this converter:

EDIT - but I agree with your suggestion, EGNXR!
