Typhoon - ICAO Aircaft Type Code?
« on: June 25, 2008, 06:04:21 PM »
Anyone know what the ICAO Aircraft Type Code is for the Eurofighter Typhoon?  There's meant to be some operating in my area over the next few days, so want to set-up an alert for them in RB.

Although, do they even carry Mode-S equipment?  I know many Tornados do, but have the RAF equipped the Typhoon with Mode-S.

EDIT : Found the ICAO code = EUFI

The ICAO list has it as EUFI, but I've set my alert to EUF* to be safe.

Currently got 43C4A3 climbing rapidly from 6000ft currently at 42000ft and still going, so maybe a Typhoon.  I'm going to have to get my binoculars out over the bombing range tomorrow to see if I can get any tie-ups for Typhoons.

EDIT: And after posting this, it's back down at 8000ft - what a ride!!!  (squawk 3701)

Hi Tarbat,

The performance of the Typhoon is apparently an issue that has to be considered carefully by the Mil controllers. The TCAS systems in the airliners and the confliction warning software at the control centres goes loopy when presented with such rapid rates of climb and descent :-0

Okay, thanks.  Given that 43C4A4 is a Typhoon, there's a good bet that the one I'm tracking at the moment (43C4A3) is also a Typhoon.  That could be my first Typhoon!!!!   Normally, we're a Tornado only territory up here.

Yes!!!  Just got my first visual on a Typhoon over the bombing range.  Possible tie-up to 43C4A3, callsign on RT was GIBSON2, that was the only RAF unknown in my list at the time (at 40ft).

Was buzzed by a Typhoon the other afternoon but didnt have my RB on at the time!

What are the ICAO codes for the many Hurcules that travel over the Lakes?

The ICAO code, that is the Short Type that appears in the aircraft list is C130

On the other hand, if you are after the Mode S 6-figure Hex code, all the RAF aircraft will start with 43C

So, if you open MyLog and put ModeS = 43C* in the quick filter then select Today or whatever period you want, and click Filter - then you will see all the Brit Mil aircraft detected.
