Hi.

We are releasing our first beta-release of 2021 and I would like to ask your help testing this new version.
Since It's in beta stage, we do not recommend to install in your production system (already running raspberry pi with other feeders, for example) since it can have bugs and freeze your rpi (we hope not!).

These are some changes (along with a lot more):
  • New standard versinoning format (we used to use 0.x.x-yyyy). Starting with version 1.0.3
  • RBFeeder runs as unprivileged user
  • RBFeeder will be available for x86 and x64 system in near future
  • This version improves communication with our server and transmitted data is reduced about 30% (sometimes reduction is morethan 50% from previous version)

To install, use this command:

1. This is great. I will monitor the bandwidth

2. Now I have installed Beta on RPI Model 2B+ with Buster (EXTRPI000008).

3. Tomorrow I will replace the existing version by Beta on RPi Model 4 with 64-bit Rapberry Pi OS. It has both arm64 and armhf enabled by default:

64bits version is not available yet. It's an old version, not the current beta (1.0.3). Only 32bits available for now.

We are looking for any bug or memory leak (hope we don't find any!).

Unfortunately there seems to be memory leak. Please see attached graph for memory for last 48 hrs - Tuesday 2021-08-17 12:00 EDT to Thursday 2021-08-19 12:00 EDT (EDT = UTC +4 hrs)

The existing Version 0.4.3-20210704004500 was replaced by Beta Version 1.0.3 on Wednesday 2021-08-18 at 13:21 EDT, and that is when memory use went up as shown by the graph

Good news.
Rebooting seems to have fixed memory leak so far (9 hrs since reboot)

Rebooting done at 04:30 EDT on Friday Aug 20, 2021.
Please see memory graphs (1) last 24hrs (2) last 7 days.

I'm running the beta build. Got this email yesterday indicating a new release build. Should we (beta users) update to the release build? And how to do so (remove beta/purge/just update/etc)

I believe you should but as the email received stated, its purely optional but recommended and I believe the updating instructions are contained in the email

From whatsapp group it advises

Sudo apt-get update
Sudo apt-get install rbfeeder
Sudo systemctl restart rbfeeder

Also note that the installer will likely ask if you want to replace the rbfeeder ini. file, you should not replace it keep the original ini. file by typing N when the question is asked

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm not sure if I need to remove the beta version first or doing the install will take care of that. Guess I'll try the install and see what happens...

This forum is driving me nuts....contact info/clear talk/javascript....anyway. Since it is not letting post the results all at once, gonna have to do this one at a time. Nothing changes or is updated and everything is referenced to beta version still.

rbfeeder is already the newest version, date is August 17

It hasnt updated for some reason, new version released 10th September, v0.4.3

Did you use all the lines posted on my previous email

Do you need to reboot the Pi?

I am not Linux knowledgable so hopefully someone with knowledge will come along soon

I rebooted the Pi and redid the steps, still claims rebfeeder is the latest version and all the references appear to the beta version (1:1.0.3). I'll wait to see if someone smarter than me, which should be just about anyone, and go from there. Thanks for your help!
