Title: Minimum PC Specification?
Post by: tarbat on July 10, 2007, 02:53:20 PM
What's the minimum, and recommended, specification for a PC to run Radarbox using all features?  Will a 800mhz processor with 768mb ram be okay?

The minimum would be a 400 mhz however that's not recommended as you won't be able to run all the features without any issues.

Anything near 1ghz and 256mb of ram should be enough to run it nicely.

Hope that helps.

Thanks.  I was just concerned about a reply on another forum (http://www.cougarvirtual.com/mode-s/showthread.php?t=25&page=2) that stated that "Your computer isn't the quickest around and I assume it might be having trouble keeping up with the downloads and processing. "  and that was in response to a user with a 1.6ghz processor.  I thought that if a 1.6ghz processor was having trouble keeping up, then my humble 800mhz processor would have serious problems.  However, I guess if the minimum is 400mhz, then 800mhz should be able to run all features?

That post on the other forum has been replied too. It was a mistake.

Your pc should be able to run nicely however when under extreme conditions (high ADS-B area and running network as well) you may experience some slowdowns which is inevitable on such as pc.

I am NOT aiming this at anyone so no flaming needed.

I've been around the computer/radio/aviation hobby for a LONG time. I realize why people use
laptops with their SBS-1/RadarBox units for the portability. But.....laptops can be really weird
animals. Especially laptops which are also used for many other tasks. My aviation/radio friends
who have the least trouble with their laptops are the ones who have installed Windows XP and
installed only the software needed for the devices they will attach.

Okay thanks.  I'm in an area with low traffic volume (Inverness), and now I'm just waiting for some of the other issues to be resolved (mainly altitude for non ADS-B traffic) before I think about placing an order.

It does run, there are some other issues though causing your disconnection.
