Post by: wheeler on May 06, 2008, 06:58:54 PM
When you have the RB connected to the network and you want to see whats going on in other parts of the UK is it possible to pick up the tower at various airports..
this might be a stupid question

Depend how close the other users are to airports.

The frequency being used is very high (Radar freq believe it or not) and this means that apart from sparodic bounce the received signals will be line of site only.

What we need is some door-to-door salesmen visiting all the houses near to airports, then when those users share their data we'll have excellent coverage of all the airports :-)

Do we get any commision on the sales?

We really need a couple at Toulouse and Seatlle to keep an eye on the new aircraft being built and tested.

Or in the case of the Ethiad A345, tested into a wall.

Well as soon as WIMO get me the Mast Amp I'll shimmy up on to the roof. You should then get the ground traffic at Heathrow.

I could see it with the AirNAV twig hanging out of the Velux window. Or at least the eastern edge. With the 1090 on the roof and uncluttered view we should get a whole lot more.

Mast AMP wont be with me until the end of May though. :-(

I just did a quick Google for "live ATC" and there are lots of sites there where you can listen to it - just heard a bit from Oakland, california, for example, via http://www.liveatc.net/ (http://www.liveatc.net/).

I guess you'll find lots of sites out there for many airports.

Hope that helps.

Wheeler if you are looking for liveATC from UK airports I don't think you will find any. Unlike the USA it is not permitted/illegal here in good old UK and therefore there are no UK airport on these sites.

Its the same way that it is illegal to listen to ATC on your scanner!
