Title: D008.dat update
Post by: Runway 31 on May 14, 2013, 06:03:39 PM
It was brought to my attention that the D008.dat file we are using in now out of date meaning some flags havent been showing.

Please find attached an updated file which will hopefully see the flags showing as required.  I have been running it all afternoon  and havent found any problems with it but if see any let me know and I will correct.

Just replace your existing one with this one and I would suggest that you close down before hand.  The file is located in your data folder.

many thanks for this update Alan,
one thing does trouble me : "old" file = 97,5 kb, "new" one is only 28,9 kb ; seems a BIG difference to me,
i'll install the new file, but shure will make a backup of the "good old one" , ..... just in case ;-)

Seems a good idea.

Many thanks, Alan.

The updated file is now in the flags zip available on my downloads page here: www.rodbearden.com/RadarBox/Downloads.htm (http://www.rodbearden.com/RadarBox/Downloads.htm)

BTW - the old D008.dat file is the same size as the new one, give or take the odd few bytes - I wonder what happened to your old one, vonsmalhausen.

Montenegro line in file is missing the first field,
reads:-
Montenegro,01010001011000----------

Yes it is corrected on the update I am working on.  It should read MP,Montenegro,01010001011000----------

I wont answer the other thread

Alan,

Before updating, is the Union Jack what I would call the 'faded' version or the 'distinct' better version ?

Hi Ian,

I have just about finished the dat file and testing it to make sure all is well and am just starting to look at the flags.  I will make sure that its is the more colourful UK flag that is in the file.  Rod has made me 3 or 4 new flogs for inclusion in the update.

Thanks Alan,

I remember having to upgrade to the better flag before. The faded one looks like it's been in the wash too long !

I see the SBS1 community created a new country.dat file on 15 January.  If it helps, I can put this through my normal spreadsheet procedure and generate a new up-to-date D008 file this morning.

Hi Tarbat,

I have a new one on test at this time but many thanks for the offer.  Hope to have it posted later today along with a new flag file.

Okay Alan, I've done the work to create a new one if you want to use it (attached).  Adds 100 new entries, now 774 entries.  Also includes new flags for:
    UK
    Turkmenistan_Mil
    Nigeria_Mil
    Malta_Mil
    Indonesia_Mil
    GE (Guernsey)

So make sure you include all the new entries.  The SBS1 community are very good at keeping this up-to-date, and in the past we've just replicated what they produce to generate a new D008.dat file.  If we're going to diverge from the SBS1 version, then someone will need capture any changes needed and keep this up-to-date going forward.

Hi Chris,

I was just going to post asking for help.  I am having difficulty with Bermuda and some displaying the UK flag so will use your one.  Many thanks for this.

Okay.  I've put into a new post so everyone can find this:

Airnav Dev, please include in the latest BETA.

Fortunately I've got a spreadsheet I developed years ago that does all the hard work!

Greetings from Bratislava (rather than Lagos :))
El Thicko here! OK I have downloaded the new flags from Rods site and extracted all files to C:\Airnav403\data\flags but, when I look in my file directory, I have a further flag folder as a sub file, in the flags folder? I don't appear to be receiving flags in Airnav but as the returns here in Bratislava are rather thin on the ground, Im not really sure if I have done it correctly?

regards clive.

Hi Clive,

A wee change!

Just move them out of DATA/FLAGS/FLAGS into DATA/FLAGS and all should be OK letting it overwrite any ones that it wants to.

Err.....
I have just deleted all files in the flags folder so if I start again and extract from rods site, am I to extract all four files there to the flags folder? or just the D008 file?

Clive,

Click on Download flags zip, a window will open, choose Save as, save it to somewhere like my downloads or anywhere you can rememeber.  It will only take a few seconds.  Once downloaded at the bottom of the screen you will hopefully see open folder and you should see a folder D008 flags zip, click on it and you will see 4 files.

Click on the one named flags and it will open up.  3rd line from the top you will see Extract all, click on it and another window will open, Select a Destination and Extract Files.  Use the browse button to find your flag folder and from what you have stated it should be C:\Airnav403\data\flags and hey should extract.

Let me know when that is done.

Thanks Alan, I have done exactly what you said but, I am getting the Flags folder with four files in it then a sub folder with the actual individual flags shown, will that work?

No Clive, wish you were just round the corner.  The extracted flags must be in the Data/Flag folder and the DAT.008 file in the data folder.  You must have saved to the flags folder.

Open up the folder with the flags in it until you can see the flags.  Also open up data/flags and place the 2 folders side by side so that you can see them both. Go back to the flags, select Edit/Select All and then drag the flags into the data/flags folder

So do I!
My problem seems to be, I did what you said and opened the flags folder but the only option I can see is to "extract all files" and when I do this, all 4 files go into data/flags with the actual flags being in data/flags/flags. I tried twice with the same result. I must be missing something. I will now try what you have just suggested, regards clive.

OK, well that worked, dragging and dropping from file to file but, do I now need to think about the DAT.008 file?
Sorry to be a pain in the bum!

Thats no problem Clive, do the same with the DAT008 File, drag it into the DATA replacing the one that is already there

OK thanks Alan, I have done that and I noticed the DAT.008 file that it replaced was from 2009? I have updated the flags an logos before but I don't ever remember having this hassle but maybe I was not doing it right anyway if the old DAT.008 file was from 2009?
regards clive.

Well thanks once again Alan. It isn't possible really to check that its working here as the returns are pretty much non existant with the position of the room I have so I will give it a run on Saturday when I am back home. Lagos for two weeks from next Wednesday so hopefully, some more hexcodes to report rather than giving you hassle :)

regards clive.
