Title: Not Locking Onto Planes Problem
Post by: jaskel on March 30, 2013, 02:00:16 AM
Hi all, well just upgraded PC Mobo/CPU etc (i7, DDR3 MOBO Etc) Now since this the RB software is only showing flights but not locking on (with the little globe thing)

If I connect the RB to laptop with the same software it locks plenty...

As u can see I have 53 flights tracked but its not following them or locking on, only 5 flights show the earth round lock signal.

Any ideas?? Ive checked and filters seem to be off...i have no idea....

Hi Jaskel,

Grasping at straws a wee bit as I dont know why 5 show and not the others but under Advanced, what is ticked, try ticking show all.

Are you in Sydney, good coverage coming from there just now including ground coverage

How are your timeouts compared to the laptop.  Not many of them showing flightID,s either is that normal for you.

The software is the same on both so it should work the same on both so I would presume there is a setting out somewhere.

Try changing the USB port on your new machine or use a shielded USB cable. Also keep your machine as far as away from the antenna cables.

nothing has changed for the location or cables, only mobo/cpu and new install so hardware not an issue as i use the same cable for the laptop and the box is in the same spot

What version of Windows is on your new computer is it the same as the laptop, did you install to the default location or C:\Airnav or the likes.

jaskel,

You are on the wrong forum for Akbar!!  Have you checked all the settings on the computer compared to your laptop.

Is it installed to the same directory on both computers?

I am at a loss to give any explanations. Two different computers, same set up, same settings, same hardware, same operating system, same software so both should give the same results.

wrong forum??

yes same directory on both computers, same directory as it was before i upgraded hardware.

Im at a loss also, at this rate ill be putting the RB into a cupboard as it is useless if I cant find these settings and fix them.

Oops I was thinking of the wrong person there, sorry.

In Preferences/General/Grid Visible column is Tracking ticked.  I suppose you have had a look at Filters/Open filter and nothing is ticked.

With Advanced button, top four are ticked

Quicklist nothing is ticked

Could you post a screen shot of Prefereances/Radarbox tab

Jaskel,

I cannot see from your screenshot, what version of the RB software did you use when you installed on your new computer.  Did you use the CD which came with the box or did you download and install the latest 3.13 or 4.03 version.

If you have not  installed the latest version download and install it, that may make a difference.

4.03 downloaded from site.

Wird thing is when I run PC in safe mode it locks heaps of planes, when i start in normal mode back to only a few locked!@

I am sure that what you have told us about the safe mode and normal mode will mean something to someone who knows about computers but It has me stumped.

Again grasping at straws, does your USB cable run direct from the box to the computer or do you go via a USB hub.  If via a hud try going direct and see if it makes a difference.

nah direct from box to PC. I run same cable to laptop and it tracks 20-30 flights locked.

If it works fine on one computer but not the other and all the settings both in Airnav and Windows and its services such as anti-virus etc are the same it can only point to something specific to that computer that needs sorting but I dont have a clue where to point you to.

yeah I agree.....the PC where the problem is was working fine until I upgraded the mobo/cpu and reinstalled windows 7....

I still think it is a file permissions thing....but ill keep searching for a few more days and if no joy then away it goes....really dont want to but it isnt working so there is no point.

I dont know where it was installed to previously but note that you installed to the default program files location.  Have you installed to somewhere like C:\Airnav instead previously?.

I suppose you have looked at your anti-virus and other security setting although why some can lock and not others I dont know

"screen shot attached...now that looks better! Do you think I would gain more tracked flights by adding an amp?? will it make any difference??"

How long is your downlead from antenna to RB?   If less than 10M, unlikeley to make an appreciable difference.

You may notice a marginal improvement, but it won't be very much - how desperate are you for another couple of aircraft?

not much...just want to get them lower....im timing out at 800'

In that case unlikely to make any difference, can you get the antenna mounted higher, that would be more beneficial.
