Title: Unidentified Static Objects
Post by: RodBearden on March 30, 2008, 01:25:23 PM
Have you noticed that at Gardermoen (ENGM) there have been at least two returns that have not moved, and seem to have been transmitting constantly for several days: Mode S TXLU1, TXLU5 etc.

GAS and Airframes.Org have nothing - and I'm perplexed that they're constantly transmitting.

Any explanations on offer?

Ground Tugs. They do move but very slowly.

Or maybe they are test transmissions.

Perhaps test transmissions from ground tugs? Deep mining machines, subs?

Are they the only ones in the world fitted with ADS-B?

I've been reading somewhere (was it in this forum or elsewhere) that there are plans for all airside vehicles to be fitted with ADS-B. I would have thought that the cost would be prohibitive and that it will take years to happen.

Just in case, though, it may be wise to find out more about this - I'm sure we don't want RB completely swamped by catering trucks, baggage tractors and all the other mobile clutter at airports, so we're going to need a way to filter them out.

Then again, perhaps AirNav could set up a new system called Aircraft TugTrax!
