Title: RadarBox 2008 - V1.5 - Ready for Download
Post by: AirNav Development on March 19, 2008, 02:37:28 AM
V1.5 work is finished. We tried to correct all pending errors (application freezing, SQLite errors and Windows Vista permissions). It was not our intention to add new features to V1.5, just to correct pending problems.

Download instructions:
a) If you have V1.4 installed then you need only to replace the existing ANRB.exe:
1- Delete your current ANRB.exe file;
b) Download the new ANRB.exe from the link below:
http://www.airnavsystems.com/download/ANRB/ANRB.exe
c) Run it.

If you prefer you can download the new full V1.5 installation:
http://www.airnavsystems.com/download/ANRB/ANRB15Setup.exe

As usual any suggestions/bug reports should be sent to our support team at [email protected] or to this forum.

Hope you enjoy it.

hi Airnav, I have posted this problem before but it seems I am the only one with this problem:

when manually edditing  using the EDIT CELL button in MyLog under GRIDS, sometimes the program doesn't save the "new" data that I've added? for instance, I have an aircraft ZS-OPO which I can only see the mode S code. So I edit the Registration window and add ZS-OPO in the block.. all then OK? right?, well no.. some aircraft gets remembered but others not..

pressing the refresh button, all new edited data shows..

so I close the MyLog window. After a few hours, ZS-OPO is missing again and I have to manually enter it again..

the same happens to other aircraft.. I've been looking into the problem, and I think I might have found the answer:

When the aircraft (ZS-OPO) gets picked up via signal, in the MyFlights it gets displayed only as mode S..(no registration data)  the registration data gets overwritten by the received information so I loose my edited info?

the same happens to ZS-PYM.. the Airline data reset to the new 'received" data.. ie. E2058 in this case under "Airline" and overwrite all my edited data..

I could add a list of aircraft that this happens to..

Also the "new" edited information like registration/aircraft does not show in the MyFlights window when the signal is piced up from that aircraft? - after I have edited (updated) the database.

If I use the Populate button to update the database some info are not updated, yet it is displayed on the GAS website?
here are a few:
502C4A   --- on GAS --YL-LCY Virgin Nigeria Airways
502C4C  ---  on GAS --YL-LCZ Virgin Nigeria Airways
04C03D   --- on GAS  --5Y-KQQ Kenya Airways
04C040    --- on GAS -- 5Y-KYC Kenya Airways

please could you have a look at this

thanks
Marc

THe MyLog edit will only edit the record for the aircraft you have already seen.

If you want to edit the main database so the aircraft details appear next time you detect it, you must use File | Database Explorer and add a new record or edit an existing record.

Database Explorer edite NavData.db3 - the main database.

yip, I want to edit the aircraft I have already seen, but the "new" received aircraft when picked up a second time overrides my edited info! - so I am back to square 1!
let me edit using the Database explorer.. I will give you feedback Thanks

Allocator, does the MyLog edit the NavData.db3 aswell? - doesn't look like it? according to what I can see

I've also updated all the master database.. as you specified, but it does not reflect in the MyLog entries??

do I need to enter the updated info again?
Title: Re: RadarBox 2008 - V1.5 - Ready for Download
Post by: tarbat on March 19, 2008, 09:37:48 AM
Editing the tables in NavData.db3 does NOT update anything in MyLog.  Surely, that's how it should be.  Say, for example, an aircraft changes it's registration/ownership/etc.   You wouldn't want those changes to be made to your historical records in MyLog, would you?
Title: Re: RadarBox 2008 - V1.5 - Ready for Download
Post by: Allocator on March 19, 2008, 09:39:07 AM
As far as I'm aware, this is the way the RadarBox databases work - I may be wrong, but this is what I think.

- The NavData.db3 is the master database which contains aircraft, airlines, routes, etc

- The MyLog.db3 database is empty until you start to receive live aircraft

- The MyLog database is populated from the information in NavData.db3 once you start to receive live aircraft

- Autopopulate populates NavData.db3

- Changes made manually to MyLog will be saved to the MyLog.db3 file, not to NavData.db3

- Changes made manually to NavData.db3 using File|Database Explorer will not be overwritten by autopopulate

So, maybe there should be interaction from MyLog to NavData, but I don't think there is.  It only works the other way around, in that there is interaction from the master source database NavData, to MyLog

nicely put, I also understand that the database works this way, my airnav can make a option to tick to select which aircraft the autopopulate must update.. so that the aircraft that I have manually added and eddited remains intact.

am I right by saying, aslong as the NavData.db3 is up to date as the aircraft gets piced up, it will update MyLog.db3?

thanks

Yes, definitely.  It will show the new updated details for that aircraft as it is picked up live.

Airnav thx for the update !!

Programs starts fine now in Windows Vista !

Will monitor and offcource report any bug I can find...

Auto populate still doesn't work full, the database does get populated with
registrations but for some aircraft it just doesn't work....

in above example mode-s codes 4CA644 and 484520 do exist in GAS
but registration fields don't get populated....
Have checked again for photo's of these aircraft @ airliners but again couldn't
find any pictures there.....

Regards,

Marinus.

If you want to use your old database. Simply do:

) If you have V1.4 installed then you need only to replace the existing ANRB.exe:
1- Delete your current ANRB.exe file;
b) Download the new ANRB.exe from the link below:
http://www.airnavsystems.com/download/ANRB/ANRB.exe
c) Run it.

AirNav,

Thanks for that I am glad I no longer have to remember to start as an administrator.

Can I suggest that we need  new sections in the forum - Developement - where wants and ideas can be formulated and a section for - Updates/Downloads. Already today there have been a lot of responses to the release of v1.5 and we will soon be on pages 2 or 3 or - get the picture ? so it would be great to just have a downloads page for anything people would want to get the best out RadarBox - and make the page so that it cannot get cluttered with messages just Upgrades/downloads.

Regards

Mike

Sorry but mouse wheel not fixed to ANRB 1.5
On first click on map window wheel works fine to zooming in and out.
If after that make a click to left window (interface) and return to map no wheel anymore.

I upgraded to v1.5 (by loading the new ANRB.Exe file and left it running to see what happened. Went to work and came home to a white screen and system crash.  The only program running was RadarBox, albeit with Network connected and signle picture download.  Sorry but this crash is sooner after start up than any I have had with v1.4.  Also I have an alternative program running on another PC with loads of add-ons and that has not faltered.  I have an internet monitor and I have had no detectable drop-outs today......

Hello,

I earlier mentioned the new version 1.5 booted well in Vista, I
now have to revert to the old way of starting Radarbox in VIsta
with admin rights.

It turned out that without admin rights the new RB couldn't
read MyLog.db3 since all I could see in My Log was today
flights...... and nothing to appear in All Time list

Started the old way and My Log showed all flights logged to date again

Am I correct that without starting the old way RB seems to build
a new My Log database ?

Marinus.

Marinus, I'm running Vista, no admin rights, and I see all 6278 aircraft in MyLog.  I did note that it defaults to the "Today" view when you first access it though, but just click on the filter and select "All Time".

You can see the difference in flights, also noticed that the backup Navdata.db3
i copied back to the data folder gets smaller in size after starting ANRB 1.5

Hi all.

I had problems with Vista Home Premium on my Dual Core Laptop with v1.4 freezing or "not Responding" every 2-3 hours.

Now with v1.5 i have only had one instance of this in 8hrs.

Wow only one crash in eight hours - mine did in two. The point is we should not suffer any crashes in days ! . My other device runs for up to 16 hours a day without crashing.............

Very odd, I get a slight delay when I'm working without an Internet connection and still have "Share Flight Data" ticked, otherwise, no problems.

Keep the reports coming we need to know whether its working nicely or not.

One important item is that why you start RB it may be intialy slow as its picks up all the aircraft and needs to get details, pictures, add to them database very quickly. Give it a minute or two to let it settle.

I am a little disappointed that I still cannot use my Radarbox with confidence. I know most users are happy with the changes made on v1.5 and I should be too.  I purchased a new base unit so that my RB could be run for longer each day (never wanted to use the laptop long term anyway) and I was able to run it for long periods with v1.3.  v1.4 caused the lockups with internet and v1.5 which should have solved it crashed after 2 hours. I have switched off for today and will try tomorrow running it from dawn to dusk or beyond,  and see if it behaves. :-(

Roadrunner,

Do a little test for us when you run it tomoz:

1.) Close anything else running in the background, yes I mean antirvirus and any software firewalls.
2.) Run RadarBox and do not start recording function
3.) Also if you are using USB extentions then just use the default

If anything happens such as a crash pm or email and us and we will get to you to send your elf file so we can see whats going wrong on your pc.

Runnning Vista too and have no problems with the start or with slow response to drop down menus

You have it! In fact the map base is the same. Just go to the "map projection" icon and click Spherical map.

Regarding the above mentioned crashes: we have been receiving reports on our support during the day mentioning the excellent stability of V1.5. On our computers it runs nonstop for several days. It has to do with some kind of software or hardware some users have. We will not give up and will investigate what may cause that.

At this time 60% of the users connected to our network already upgraded to V1.5. This is great news.

I have had v1.5 running (nearly) constantly since Saturday with XP SP2 and running other programmes along side.  As yet everything seems stable for me and I have certainly had no SQL Lite failures which is what I was experiencing before.  So I can see others are having a few glitches but fingers crossed the SQL Lite error appears to have been solved :-)

Wayne, a silly question, but are you really sure that you are running with the new ANRB.exe file?  Have you put it in the right place?

If you are a computer geek, please accept my apologies and I'll go and hide :-)  Sometimes it's worth checking even the simple things.

I know this, as I did run completely the wrong version of RadarBox for a while during beta testing.  I just couldn't understand why I was getting problems I thought were fixed 2 versions ago ..........

Well I do work with computers but the more ORACLE industrial stuff and maybe you are right to ask as myself and PC are not that compatible ! However I did download the exe from the link , it's definately a .exe and 1.99 MB (2,089,472 bytes) and is in the 2008 directory. I have the distance and bearing info in the footer of the screen so I reckon it's all installed properly.

Having said that RB has been running now just short of 2 hours and no problems and the network is definately connected.

Hi to all

After the update to ANRB.exe file I turn on the ANRB network and the freeze problem back up again...
This means that my ANRB only works fine with teh network turn off.

However, today I bought a new PC with Windows Vista and during next weekend I'm going to install it.

I will come back to you after I have some conclusion about ANRB performance in the new machine.

Also in Suite has a very smooth rotation, not like frame by frame on RB
have clear trail lines, and a don't know how clearest outlines in zooming.
Any way i hope in the future AirNav fix that.

All the users that report a freeze/lookup should send an IM (instant message) to me with their email address. We are creating a task force here to do some trials and we would like you to, day by day, send you patches to do some tests.

As told before this is a very difficult to correct error, totally Operating Systems/Windows related (the way it deals with threads). Waiting for you messages.

AirNav, I will try your little test later today when I am not so busy with other things.

The tests I have done :

1 Running Visata but without selecting Run As Administrator - it crashes.

2 Running Vista but selecting Run As Administrator - it has been running for 4 hours with Network running and all my PC security intact.

3 I am only running RadaBox on this PC - obviously I have my USB Internet connection running and Virgin Broadband PCGuard as my only PC protection.

I do think that telling people to switch everything else off and to also switch off the firewalls etc is not really a solution. I want to run other programs alongside RB and I expect to be able to do so. I have had RB, SBS1, GAS, FD6 Mil_log and PP all running on my other PC on occassions and NOTHING stopped working - but that was v1.3.

I cant use Radarbox if I cant run the other applications I need that are on my PC. If you cant get it to work with all base platforms then it will have to go..........

Roadrunner,

I don't think that the AirNav test request was suggested as a solution, merely a temporary test to rule out other factors that might be causing problems :-)

OK Allocator,

I am just a little disapointed. I have had RB since June 07 and all alomg I haqve been waiting for the definitive version that works as it says on the box!  I was so convinced that v1,4 would be it that I spent money on a new base unit to run it.....
Oh well I suppose I have all the time in the world to wait for something, and so far today, just remaining in Administrator role, it has performed since 07:00 without a problem - and I have not switched http://anything off!

Guys I have to agree with Roadrunner

Testing or not testing, to run without virus protection could be causing yourself a lot of problems.

While i appreciate that Airnav are trying to produce a solution, they are asking you to do some dodgy requests

We have now up to 1500 users and this issue is only happening to less than 5% of them. We are doing our best to correct it but of course we do not control how the various Windows versions, drivers and computer hardware performs in different conditions.

We will continue to do our best to correct them.
In the meanwhile and after asking yesterday for the contacts of all the users that have this problem, we have received only one...

Think you've hit it on the head.

It's impossible to predict how things will work in different systems because of what they could have installed and how they are setup/updated.  This is why most large companies have contracts with IT suppliers to provide the same spec desktops and imaged drives to ensure the same standard of configuration on all their systems (NHS as an example), easy to support and implement new software into the systems.

I think to only have less than 5% with the problem is very good and I'm sure with some checking by those users something in common maybe found!

Keep up the good work.

Roadrunner: with so many problems why haven't you contacted us directly as request by us so our programmers can be in direct contact with you?
There is no point of posting 10+ messages to this forum without doing nothing to correct them.

We are still waiting the PM messages from users with problems otherwise nothing can be done.

PS: regarding steve25, we have your contact tks and you we will be in touch in 1-2 days.

At the time I write 70% of our users connected to the network upgraded to V1.5 and almost all of them have the application running without any problem. We have to find out which is causing the freezes on the above mentioned users but without your interest we cannot do anything.

Please keep up the good work. As i'm in this business also, I appreciate the problems with configuration issues as much as you guys do.

We will get there in the end with everybody's help and the product is brilliant, just a few teething problems

Roadrunner,

Just one thought, but I use to have Virgin's broadband anti-virus protection and it was very flaky and caused problems with some of my applications.

Although i don't have my ANRB yet, I switched to AVG anti-virus and Zone Alarm (both free versions), and have been fine since.

Just a thought.

Virgins PC Guard is on all my PC's and is also free. I have run all other versions of RB from the first issue up to 1.3 without any problems and it does not cause problems to any of the other programs I have.

Windows Freezing problems, 4 users:
Roadrunner
steveb25
CarlosAbreu
tarbat

Scrolling through dropdown menus is very slow, 3 users:

Can you confirm this? Any more users please report to us and we will contact you regarding the tests being made.

AirNav,

I have just been looking back at the time of the freezing yesterday and note that the time that RB froze was 4 hours after I had started a recording going. I did not realise the significance until re-reading this thread, plus I wanted to replay the recording I made and I do not appear to have one. I had started it running just before midday to record the A380 and had not stopped it running when I went to work and the PC had crashed when I got home.

So I believe we are getting into conclusions: all the users that report Freezing problems please DO NOT RUN the application recording feature. Let us know if the freezes continue with recording Off.

As I told you we have our best programmer on stby to start working in case this is not the cause of the problems. Thanks for all your help and I'm sure we will quickly solve this! Teamwork does it better. :-)

I can confirm that it has run from 07:00 to - still running without a problem :-).

I can also confirm that my Internet connection dropping out during this afternoon did NOT stop RB from  running - OK I lost the Network but the local operation continued. I had to stop RB while I rebooted my system to get my internet back but otherwise no problems.

Contrary to my earlier remark that I have not had any freezes with ver 1.5 I must now report that I have had my system freeze and 'not responding'  at least 6 times over the last 24 hours.  I have this problem when I run with the network connected.  While at work all day today I ran with no network connected and when I got home there was not problems and RB was running fine.  I must also say that regardless of having the network connected or not I am always recording as I also run PlanePlotter.

Prbflight: can you try to run it for one day without recording? (network could on or off as you wish).
We are seriously suspecting that it's the recording feature that is causing these troubles.

I will start running now 04:43:14 UTC for the next 24 hours with the network connected and no recording.  I should also mention that I always run with AirNav ACARS Decoder 2 connected.  I will leave it connected for this test. Stay tuned.

Thanks for your post. Try to run it:
1- With network;
2- No recorder;
3- No ACARS;

(so the only difference to what you wrote is to stop the ACARS connection).

I suspect that recording might still be an issue.  I often run PlanePlotter in the background reading the RadarBox recorded file.  Often, when I go to look at PlanePlotter, it has stopped showing the RadarBox tracks.  RadarBox is stil running fine, but the recording file is no longer being updated.

As I said, RadarBox continues to run OK, but maybe the recording failing is something to do with the problems that some people are having.

Overall, I'm very happy with V1.5.  It runs all day on the laptop without an internet connection, and it's as solid as a rock on the main PC with Internet :-)

Referring back to my mention of grey lines across the screen. I have re-started without recorder running and after a time I am getting a grey line across the screen about 1/10th of the way up the screen and always the same orientation and approx 1 inch wide.  It seems to be flickering in time to a pulse of some sort ? very weird and I have not seen it referred to in any other threads.....

Hi AirNAV \ All

I had numerous problems with V1.4 and the updated V1.5 e.g screen freezing \ slow response times etc. In an act of frustration, i deleted all AIRVAV programmes off my PC and then reloaded only the updated V1.5.

I've had no problems since then....running like a dream

Good work on V1.5 by AirNav

I don't remember reading that post.

Does this happen as soon as you run RadarBox, or is it after you have changed maps or changed to full screen?

Does it look like this?

The recorder is obviously having an issue after while which is causing the updates to work correctly and hence you might be seeing weird affects.

Anyhow we have established that recorder is the cause so please do not run the recorder and post posts about whats its doing as we already know and working on it :)

hi All,
i was very frusted because, i was not at home, and i can see that there is
new version 1.5 and i can't test it !!!!

so, i'll back and i immediatly test it.

Good news, no slow windows, all is well (without recorder On and local time
for the log), if i put recorder on, freezing about one hour !!!!

Bad news, i have a new "problem", a blue screen with this message:

DRIVER_IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
FTDIBUS.SYS
B98A9CF4 STOP 0x000000D1

if i have more than the radarbox active i can have blue screen about one or two hours.
(especialy if i use FTP transfert and Flight Simulator !!!)

i have re-install (after kill it) the driver FTDI.(the old one on the disk)
i have change the port bus.
i have put an USB card extension with another chip(Nec)
no success...

And not with the 1.4 !!!!!

My computer is a DELL 2.8 Ghz - 3Go Memory, XP PRO (SP2) and on the USB the Keyboard, the mouse and a printer ...

AirNav a research Track ?

Open up RadarBox 2008 and then go to Help -> About and tell us what your firmware says.

Regarding recorder, we know the issue, its stated in the posts above.

Lastly we do not recommend you use RadarBox and Flight Simulator at the same time. Flight Simulator is a high end application (requires lots of resources) which can lock up your machine (temporarily) anyway when loading screens.

Also, what version USB driver are you using? The driver on the disk might not be the latest version - there was an update vis the forum - for V1.3?

It should be 2.2.4.0

Thanks,

Yes, i undestand, but Flight Sim is one of the possibility to test rapidely
the "bug" as Google Earth or AL-FTP. (<15 min)

For the driver:
Primetec
19/05/2006
2.0.0.0

(very old !!!)

for the Firmware it's the 1.01.2

AirNav,

Just for information. This morning after starting using RB I noticed I was getting regular grey lines across the map screen and it was getting very regular. I was not using recording but had Share and Network traffic switched on.  I turned both of these off but this did not stop the lines. I then re-arranged some of the other equipment near to the RB and its aerial and realised that the radio I use in my den, a Sony Ericsson W850i in a Speaker cradle was very near the aerial. I removed this device from the area of RB and the grey lines dissappeared. It would appear, that for me at least, the grey lines were caused by interference with signals by another electrical device. OOOOppps :-(

Hi,

i have re-install the driver for the USB with the drivers on RB2008.

OK it's now 2.2.4.0 but !!!!

it's identified as USB Serial converter from FTDI
not PRIMTEC or Radarbox and of course the RB don't connect
with it ... the blue light blinking one second.

i have de-installed (with the windows function) and re-installed ... same problem.(but well identify on plug and play).

an idea...

Do not let Windows automatically install drivers, or let it search the internet.

Have no idea what you mean. After the upgrade to the new drivers does RadarBox 2008 run.

Also some of the issues you mention are similar to people running the firmware upgrade when it was not needed. Please tell us you did not do this so we can rule that out.

Ok,

at first with the windows manager i de-install the usb driver
i deconnect and connect the RB
the unplay detect a new material
i install the drivers who are in RB2008/drivers/i386/ftdibus.sys
(two time)
at the end windows infrom me that the material is well installed
(and i can verify in the manager material of windows).
but,
the blue led blinking one second,
the name of USB interface is USB serial converter
and when i start RB2008 (or RB2007) he say that there is
no hardware connected....

"USB interface is USB serial converter"

This occurs if your RadarBox device has had its firmware corrupted. I think at some stage throughout this process you ran the firmware upgrade which was not needed.

Contact support through email or our site and we can arrange a return to base and have it fixed. Sorry for the bad news but it seems you either did not follow the instructions fully when the orginal upgrade was done to 1.3 a few months ago.

Hi AirNav,

Just reading this thread. Is that right that once the firmware is corrupted there is no way to flush it out and reinstall and it must result in a return to base for repair?

If so that is a sobering thought for us all :-(.

Would it not be possible for a future update to develop some means of resetting the device locally so that a re-install can take place. My ipod occassionally gets corrupted by something  as simple as static and I can use a set of keypushes to reset.

Regards Mike

Well so far, the only way it gets corrupted is if you try to try install the firmware upgrade again. Considering all new batches since Oct have 1.3 (which does not need this doing) we do not forsea anyone else doing this by mistake.

Otherwise the chances of it corrupting it are very low. So no need to worry :)

Hi.  I have just been trying to set my Alerts up.  I tried setting up a very basic alert just to test the alert system.  Everything seamed fine except i selected the "send email to the following address".

Unfortunately nothing over a 24 hour period was found in my email. However there was many alerts as i also setup "show a notification message".

Tried de-selecting notification message and still no email.
Is this a known fault?

Thanks
