Hi,
Whatever I do I cannot load the latest database file successfully. I even removed and then re-installed the AirNav software. Could some kind sole send me a zipped copy of the latest Navdata db3 file (released in March) please? If you could PM me, I'll send you my e-mail address.
Kind Regards
Dave

Hi Dave
Sorry to hear you're still having problems.
Funilly enough,I've just experienced (again) a similar problem, having purchased a new laptop.
At the moment, I haven't established , or had chance to access the internet with the new laptop to download the new database file, so thought I'd be able to simply dump the file from my old laptop onto the fresh install on the new laptop.
The file appears to be there, appears to be the correct size, but on opening up the software,it appears not to work correctly - there are massive gaps appearing in the info I'm picking up, and the navdata file only has around 80k records in the aircraft table. In other words, it appears to be viewing the old navdata file.
I've tried both overwriting the old file , and also deleting the old file and then dropping the new one in, but to no avail!
I'm presuming there some fancy workings going on in the direct download functionality from AirNav that allows the new file to be correctly installed???
Has anyone else tried this route?
Rich
-
Haven't tried that route but have attempted the download twice but I am still getting lots of .../null/BCA acft which I thought had been corrected, so maybe my file hasn't loaded either. Somethings have changed in that aircriaft I had previously amended are back to either ... or blank.
-
Dev/Support
Can you please please respond and confirm thet the only way of effectively capturing the new navdata file is via running the download function??
Is it a "non-starter" to just copy the file from either another RadarBox application that has the file correctly installed, or copying from a zip from another user??
As you'll see from this thread, there is still some confusion.
Thanks
Rich

You can copy a navdata file from another pc to your another pc BUT there are complications and that's why we provide the installer.
The complications are:
1.) If you copy a file across on many machines it will mark the file as read only so RadarBox will have trouble accessing it and writing to it.
2.) The file maybe blocked on the new machine, if you right click on it you can unblock the file.
3.) You could end up copying the file to the wrong place so RadarBox continues to use the old navdata.
-
To assist in accessing the file, you can makes the changes that Airnav mentions by right clicking on the saved file, go to properties on the drop down menu and untick read only and click the unblock button.

Thanks guys - appreciate the quick response
This makes a lot of sense now

Problem solved. I use Aerodata's Radarbox analyser and I have now confirmed that the file needs to be copied to the data folder following this path
C:\users\your name\Appdata\lLocal\VirtualStore\Program Files(x86)\AirNav Radarbox 2009\Data.
Everythings works fine now.
Many thanks to those who gave me help and support and especially Andrew in sunny Southern France. Marpleman, this could be your solution too as I believe you use the Aerodata Analyser too!
-
Hi Dave
At the moment I don't have Aerodata loaded on the new laptop
How did you get the navdata file to eventually load, as I'm still having problems!!!
I tried to redirect where the exe application dropped the new database, but couldn't change the file path in the instal wizard, so all it's done is drop it in a new AirNav directory
Still puzzled - everything worked fine on the old Vista laptop?
Rich
-
It had loaded directly via the AirNav installer but it was not being recognised by the Radarbox software until I copied it to the file specified in my earlier post.

Even better, follow Airnav's advice in the FAQ and don't install in the default location. You will then avoid all the Virtual Store problems that Windows creates when installing in the Program Files location.
To quote:
"You might prefer to install in a different location outside your virtual store to prevent security issues and compatibility with certain addons"
From the FAQ at http://www.airnavsystems.com/forum/index.php?topic=1570.0
Airnav, will the installer be changed for v4.04 to NOT install in Program Files location, to avoid all these Virtual Store problems?

i have also tried to upload the new database but can only get the old one on my system.i have the latest version 4 of radarbox but on my control panel, then viewing the program list there are 2 radarboxs listed-radarbox 13/03/11 499mb and radarbox 2009 23/01/09 222mb.should i remove 1 of these.i am running windows vista, thanks in advance for any help, simon.

Question how do i direct/get the new database to the correct path as I cant change the path using the quick install?

In the registry, check the contents of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\AirNav Systems\ANRB\1\General\AppPath
What does it say?

Hi Tommy
I was having similar problems and had almost given up, however in the end, I let the file download to wherever it wanted to, and did a copy/replace out of the download folder of just the navdata file into the data folder where I had re-installed the RadarBox files, whilst the software was not operating.
On restarting the software, everything has copied over fine with approx 100k aircraft records
Good luck!

still not able to upload the new database, have deleted my airnav 2009 folder and tried again but no joy,i am an internet "dummy",where do i find the registry information that you mention
-
Simon,
Where is Airnav on you computer and what version of windows do you use.
Alan
-
AirNavRadarbox(c:\ProgramFiles\AirNavSystems) i think! and windows vista home premium.
-
If you're OK with that setup, that's fine, but if you're thinking of reinstalling the full RadarBox software, then it is STRONGLY recommended that Vista or Windows 7 users DONT install in the Program Files folder - install in c:\ AirNavSystems instead. It makes life a lot easier.
Rod
-
If that is the case Simon it should install OK.
Close down radarbox, when it has closed down, click on http://www.airnavsystems.com/download/ANRB/DBUpdater/ANRBDBUpdater20110418.exe
You will be given the opportunity to save or install, click on install, let the installer do its job, when completed, turn on radarbox and it should be there.
Try and let us know how you get on
Alan
-
have done the above but still shows 80k aircraft when using database explorer.any other suggestions, simon.
-
Simon,
Use the search facility and do a search of your computer for NavData.db3. If you have downloaded it, it must be somewhere on your computer and you must have the original and the one you have just downloaded.
The origional will be in the programfiles/radarbox/data folder but you are looking for the new one.
Hover the cursor over them and it will show you the date modified, the one with todays date is the one you are looking for.
Let me know if you find it.
Alan
-
i have a data file of 126 mb showing created 13/3/11 and modified 19/4/11 is that it?
-
No, the one you are looking for is 48.7Mb and is called NavData.db3
Use search on the windows start to find it. Place NavData.db3 in as the file name to search for and allow windows to search for it.
Windows should give a list of all files with that name in it, when you find it let me know where it is.
Alan

found 4 navdata.db3 files .bak 19.1 mb,-journal 77.5 kb,-stmtjrnl 4.01kb and navdata only 19.1mb in (c:\users\simon\appdata\local\virtualstore\programfiles\airnavsystems\airnavradarbox) and 4 navdata db3 files in(c;\programfiles\airnavsystems)simon
-
What navdata db3 files in(c;\programfiles\airnavsystems)simon?
Alan
-
navdata.backup 45.6mb
navdata 45.6 mb
navdata 18mb
navdatadb3.bak 18mb
tried to delete these but it says cant find files as no longer located in this location
-
I can only think its the windows virtual store problem as stated by Rod previously.
Maybe you should delete radarbox and follow Rods suggestion. to reistall to c:\Airnav Systems to avoid virtual store problems

Could anyone please confirm what the correct size of latest NavData.db3 file should be?
Installer still insists on installing it where it feels fit - into a virtual directory that I thought no longer existed!
I have a file of 49,928kb that I have copied across to the directory that I think it belongs in!
Is that the right sized file - and any way of checking that it is correctly installed once I power up RB soon?
Much appreciate these updates, but it seems very messy to install them!
-
As Alan put a few posts above 48.7Mb
If you have the right one there should be 109,151 records with the last one on the show all list being 406392 G-NSKB
-
many thanks for all your help yesterday guys.looks like i will have to reinstall my radar box.2 more questions for you if you dont mind.do i have to use my original cd to feinstall and then update it to version 4 from downloads or can i do a complete download of the new edition fron somewhere, and how do i get the new edition into c:\airnav instead of the program files, thanks in advance simon.
-
You don't need the CD - just download the FULL version - not the upgrade, from here http://www.airnavsystems.com/RadarBox/support.html and follow the advice in reply #10 in this thread.
When the installer asks where you want to install the software, edit the path it suggests by deleting the "\Program Files" bit.
Good luck
Rod

Just deleted radarbox on my Vista laptop as it was in the program files location and reinstalled to c:\Airnav. Afterwards I installed the update which went to c:\programfiles\airnav as directed by the installer. Find the updated Navdata.db3 file and copy it across and replace the original Navdata.db3 file in c:\airnav\radarbox\data and all will be OK.
Alan
-
have reinstalled radarbox into correct folder and downloaded new database which has disapeared.how do i find this file, what should i search for?,and how do i copy it into the new radarbox file, thanks again, simon.
-
Well done - but you are now suffering from the bug that I complained about in the thread about the latest update - the update installer will be putting the new NavData.db3 file in the first place that you told it, and the bug means you can't change that.
I guess that if you run the database update program again you will be able to see the path to where it put it. If not, do a search for NavData.db3 and find the one tha isn't in your new setup Data folder

have found 3 files navdata, navdata.bak and navdata.journal.is any of these the right one?
-
No - it should be NavData.db3
Rod
-
navdata file says type db3 and bak and journal are named as db3,but these are the only files showing after a search,i have downloaded it twice now so have no idea where it is if these arnt it.
-
I've just done it myself, and the new NavData.db3 file is dated 18 April 2011, 16:09
If you still can't find it, let me know and I'll Zip mine and email you a link so that you can download it directly - then you should be able to control where it goes.
Rod

Its the navdata.db3 you are looking for Where on your computer is the file just now. Isn it in c:airnav\radarbox or c:airnav\programfiles .
Open up my computer, then click on Vista c:
When the next window opens, click on program files
When the next window opens click on Airnav systems
When the next window open click on Airnavradarbox 2009
When the next window opens click on data, you should now see Navdata.db3
Go to the start button click on it and then computer when it opens up.
click on Vista c: and when it opens click on Airnav Systems,
When the next window opens click on Data
When the next window opens you should see the Navdata.db3 file. delete it.
Now go to the other Navdata.db3 file and drag it across to the one you deleted the file from.
Close down the window and start radarbox and all should be well.
Let us know how you get on

-
If you have the right one there should be 109,151 records with the last one on the show all list being 406392 G-NSKB
Many thanks for that - just checked my system and it ties in with that - must have done something right last night - miracle!
Chris
-
Simon - it sounds as if you might have moved the NavData.db3 file to the wrong place.
I think you have two choices: 1: start again by downloading and installing RadarBox 3.13 or 2: contact AirNav Support who should be able to guide you through to a solution - it's what we pay 'em for ;-)
Rod
PS Well done, Chris!
-
success at last, have finally managed to get the new navdata file transfered and is now showing 10k plus aircraft.only problem now is i cant seem to connect to the real time network after re opening radarbox, any answers gratefully recieved, simon.
-
cancel the above.network has now re appeared, thanks to all who replied to my questions, regards, simon,
-
Well done, Simon :-)
Rod
-
Simon for some reason the "Get Flights From Radarbox Network" gets unticked after the install, tick it and you should have no problems. If you loose the network always check their first.
