Title: Zoom out - target datablocks disappear
Post by: Deadcalm on March 16, 2008, 08:53:53 AM
Can anyone confirm at what level of zoom I should expect to lose the datablock in live aircraft targets?

I ask, because if I am viewing the radarBox display at my chosen zoom level (saved as my default map) I can see all the datablocks for the aircraft, however, if I zoom out just by one step, the datablocks vanish and I am left with an unidentified cross and trail for each aircraft, but no datablock.

Is this normal, or is there another setting about which I'm unaware?  I'm sure this oddity wasn't experienced with v 2007.

DC, no change from 2007 as far as I'm aware.

As you zoom out, you will start to loose labels as there will be too many for them all to read so RadarBox prevents overlap by hiding some of the labels.

If you zoom out further still, you will get to a point where RadarBox only displays a dot and the trail if selected. You have to zoom out a long way for this to happen though, see my screenshot below which covers the whole of the UK and some of NW Europe, if I zoom in one level, the labels reappear.

OK, thanks, Allocator.  The labels don't progressively disappear because of overlap, it's all or nothing - others seem to be able to display wider geographical areas with labels showing - indeed, networked you would expect to see other aircraft further afield than your own live targets, otherwise there wouldn't be much point.  It just seems odd that one zoom step should have this effect.  But if it's normal, then so be it...

DC, here is the same picture I posted earlier with the range rings switched on.  RadarBox deosn't show the level of zoom, but the 4th range ring here is at 263.6 miles, giving 527 miles from edge to edge.

If I zoom in until the labels appear, I still can see out to 197 miles and the map shows 394 miles from edge to edge.

OK, point taken - it's obviously quite normal, then !
