Hi folks, not had the RadarBox on for over 12 months but have had the urge to play again!
Been spending the last couple of days re-populating my database (latest version etc. installed, new subscription purchased). When I came home tonight I noticed the network was briefly not connected and when it came back on it seemed a little patchy for a while. The network seems okay now but auto-populate aircraft info and photos still don't seem to be working. They've been fine over the weekend since I fired the box back up.
Has anybody else noticed these features being 'down' tonight or is it just me?

Hi testmonkey - welcome back!
I think it may be just you - give it a while to settle down and you may find it works OK.

Hi guys new to ANRB this weekend Database updates and photos worked OK until yesterday then same problem as testmonkey I am presuming this is a problem at the Database Network update site anyone confirm ?
-
Not working for me either, which is a pity as I am trying to show a "newbie" how it all works and not possible at the moment. Does anyone know if this part of the server is down?
Cheers

I was having the same problem with the reg/photo autopopulate when i went into my radarbox late yesterday evening around 23.30 hours, and again this morning at 6am.
If you guys are also having the same problem then it must be a fault at Airnav end.
It was good to see yesterday late evening that the KJFK/KEWR coverage on the radarbox network is much better as i was seeing all ADS-B traffic in the New York TMA. To the person who is supply this feed i would to say thank you as i can now tie up the registrations of flights that i see depart and arrive JFK on the Flightaware airport activity map.

I am having the same problem in London at 0830 this morning. Auto-populate has not been working all morning

The server is currently populating routes, but not aircraft details (which includes thumbnails/photo links).

We will take a look.

With respect, this isn't the kind of problem you should be dependent on your users to report.
Clearly it's an issue at the server end and not just affecting one user.
Google "website monitoring software" and you will find dozens, if not hundreds, of products which would alert you to server problems before any user has had a chance to notice them.

Same problem for me, I cannot get info and photos from planes that arenĀ“t in my database.
Cheers!!

Just got back in from work and switched on my radarbox and still having the same issues with the autopopulate aircraft reg/photos not working.
Hope somebody from Airnav can sort this out!

If you require to know details of any aircraft with a hex code only, please feel free to forward the code to me on this thread and I will send you the details to allow you to update manually in database explorer.

The issue is related to the online database which is being repaired, this does take a few hours.
Apologies for the issues.
-
Is that also the cause of the network being on/off all day and currently OFF again !
-
Network should have only gone offline 10-15 mins ago while we restarted all the systems. Network and autopopulate should be ok now.
-
AN,
Can confirm that the network is back on again and the autopopulate function is working. Not sure if this is a silly question or not but can you confirm if the autopopulate function only works for network flights and not 'My Flights'.
-
Updater now working OK as well.
Ian, it should also work for myflights as well.

Hmmm, back to normal in more ways than one - my suggestion having sunk without trace or even acknowledgement ....
Personally, I'd have thought that monitoring your own server so that you could tell when it stops returning data before your users start to complain was a bit of a no-brainer.
-
Monitoring the server might be a good idea - but consider any network problems could also have other possible causes which are not in the responsibility of AirNav.
A good idea - which e.g. is used in the world of finance - is to give a server status in the status bar or elsewhere. Green = ok, yellow = problems, red = down. Maybe an mouseover which would give latency or connected server or whatever.
Just to float an idea.
-
DaveReid,
Monitoring is in place, we have the status page and other internal pages. The issue why this wasn't caught earlier was that service for autopopulate wasn't actually down it was just returning errors to external requests but working fine internaly.

No problem. If it's not possible to monitor when the server is returning null data, as it was doing yesterday and has done on previous occasions (as distinct from being down and not returning anything at all) then I can put an external monitor in place on my website which might pre-empt a few posts from confused users like yesterday's.
I'll post the URL when it's up and running.

Alan,
Thanks for that. Just wasn't sure about it working for 'My Flights' as it would appear that in this neck of the woods (Spain) some strange mode S codes keep regularly appearing eg 343553. Auto populate produced nothing but having checked both Airframes and Libhomeradar, they don't know either. The only information given is that it relates to Spain.
Ian
Edit: Mode S 342411 also just come on.
-
Ian
343553 may or may not be be a misscode as its not on Avdb and neither is 342411. That doesnt mean that it doesnt refer to an aircraft just that nobody has noted the aircraft and what its code belongs too. If real it will probably be a small one.
Please feel free to post unknowns on the thread for database updates and if I can get it I will post it on.
