Title: Multiple flight ID problem
Post by: airdata on July 29, 2010, 10:06:28 PM
Greetings.  Not sure if anyone else has this problem.  In Auckland we don't have much traffic (26 at the most at any one time).  I note that often the same flight ID is listed with 2 or sometimes 3 different aircraft.  In most cases the hex code is similar but sometimes it is the 4th letter of the hex code that is different.  See the screenshot with 2 instances.  This happens several times each and every day.  It also makes no difference whether the my flights list is sorted or not.  Any suggestions to get rid of this problem?  Or is it a software bug?

The Hex Code Confusion bug is well-known and was first reported over a year ago.

No fix as yet.

or maybe you have multiple aircraft flying the same flight route.

I believe ANZ417 is Auckland (AKL) to Wellington (WLG)
and ANZ135 is Auckland (AKL) to Brisbane (BNE)

There is no way you could have two aircraft airborne simultaneously using both the same callsign and the same squawk.

And according to the bug tracking system, Airnav believe this occurs mainly in high message areas, whereas I don't think Auckland can be considered a high message area.

I'd have to agree that the entry on the bug list doesn't seem to demonstrate a full understanding of the nature of the problem or (IMHO) the urgency of a fix:

Severity High
Priority High
Assigned To No-one
Due in Version Undecided
Due Date Undecided

Don't worry about those last 3 fields Dave, those details are kept private.

Hi there

Noticed this problem myself for the first time yesterday.  A (mode-S only) REX flight and a Virgin Blue flight on approach to Sydney, both showed with the same Virgin Blue flight number.  This only occurred on my RadarBox.

Cheers
