Was on AFR006 yesterday and routed abeam Dover towards BPK, then POL at FL370.
-
Hi thenafter POL he went ditrct over my house here in NI. Just enough cloud break to be visual. He llooked great.
John

John
Did you see it today, a bit earlier than yesterday?
-
Hi Southwest yes just posted on another thread "My First A380". I'm off sick at the moment so this is how i'm spending my time. It was directly over my house sunlit and looking superb.
John
-
Hi John
Hope you feel better soon.
Just bought my Box yesterday, so am still feeling my way round the system. A mate of mine has had one for some time and given me a few useful tips.
-
Hi What time was he over NI?
Stephen
-
My log has it around 14:30 today
-
F-HPJA went up over Leicester ,East Midlands and Manchester on route to JFK today at 14:30 approx. It's first scheduled service, I believe. It was clear and sunny and made a terrific sight.Appologies for not posting at the time as I was late for an appointment. It will be a regular event I am sure!

Hi Stephen he was overhead me in Bangor at 2.35pm approx.

First Service AFR006 CDG - JFK was Monday 23rd. Operates every day except Wednesday. Departs CDG at 1330GMT. Was trailing over North Derbyshire at 1414.

Well done John, I picked the flight up over the Fylde Coast but unfortunately it was thick cloud and I only heard it go over.

Anyone know what happened to AF7 last night? Looks like it returned to JFK and then departed 415mins late!
AF6 currently showing three and half hour estimated delayed depature from CDG this afternoon...
Chris

Returned to JFK with an autopilot failure:

So that ought to mean AF006 appears around my location in about an hour or so.
Here's hoping it's close enough to see and the clouds are not too bad.
I've told RB to record the local traffic...
-
AF6 left gate at 1646utc - 256 mins late - start tracking guys!!
-
Now to wait for the alert to pop up....
-
It's airbourne and appearing on the network now
-
Anyone know which North Atlantic track AFR006 will route on this evening? They seem to be heading west over France instead of crossing the UK up towards the north west Scotland area.
-
Hi yep more Southerly track ott Guernsey this time, west bound.
John
-
Hi AF006,currently over Channel Ilses hdg towards Lands End.
Paul.
-
Track F entry point is at 52N 20W today, that's off County Kerry roughly.
-
Also what's impressive is how a heavy A380 can climb straight up to FL380, a lot of aircraft tend to top out at FL330 until they've burnt off some fuel.
-
That's hilarious - I spend all day monitoring news of its delayed departure - in the hope of catching my first A380 in MyFlights and it routes via the tip of Cornwall rather over the Midlands!
All very enjoyable - better luck tomorrow perhaps - it will still be delayed on AF7 return I presume.
Chris
-
Well, either they need to pedal it mighty fast to catch up those 3 hours, or they could pull a sneaky time slip and get back in sync a day later.
Yes, I would have liked to see it pass by here but then it is dark now....
-
Just disappeared off the network, interesting to note they were offset to the right of the airway all the way from northern France to past Land's End. I suppose it doesn't matter, but since there was an airway to follow I thought normal practice was to follow it and back up the GPS/IRS with VOR/DME.
-
just saw AF A380 flying over sw corner of Ireland on its way to NY.
-
looking at the AF A380 now heading out over the Atlantic off the west coast of kerry, Ireland. Pity it didnt route a bit higher and i could have seen it.
-
AF0006 departed gate at 1554utc on Sunday for anyone interested in tracking - only 204 mins late tonight...
-
Well, either they need to pedal it mighty fast to catch up those 3 hours, or they could pull a sneaky time slip and get back in sync a day later.
Still over 3 hours late tonight - guess it will stay that way until Wednesday (no flight on that day I believe). Little leeway when you only have one aircraft of that type in your fleet...
For the record, AF0006 did exactly the same as last night - routed due West over the Channel Islands and just south of Lands End - climbing pretty quickly to FL380.
Yesterday Fenris quoted:
<Track F entry point is at 52N 20W today, that's off County Kerry roughly.>
How did you find this info? - or more importantly, how would I or other RB users do so?
Cheers

Altenatively this is an excellent source for daily North Atlantic tracks...

Air France have done well - AF0006 only about half an hour late this afternoon. Turning an aircraft of this size around is not as simple as an easyJet or Ryanair quick turnround!
Thanks to Brian and Dave for feedback on Transatlantic tracks.
Couldn't get Fenris's link http://jetvision.de/nattracks.shtml to show a map though. An asterisk on the site suggested I use Firefox browser if I had problems - sorry, I already have Google Chrome, Opera and Internet Explorer - I'm not going to add another browser!
Dave's link http://www.turbulenceforecast.com/atlantic_westbound_tracks.php worked for me though - lots of interesting links from this site too - maps of expected turbulence etc.
Now I know what the daily tracks are, how do I know which entry point a flight is headed for?
Fenris knew that F-HPJA was headed for track F entry point the other night - I now know how to find the daily changeable entry points - is it simply a case of monitoring a certain frequency to hear a transatlantic clearance that includes this info?
Cheers
Chris
-
I made an educated guess Chris, I was not sure but I looked at the track the aircraft was making and thought it was likely they were on a southerly track.
I think it is possible to find the routing of a given flight, Shanwick have to know this well ahead of departure as they schedule the flights into the tracks and have to ensure the correct time and lateral separation.
-
Transatlantic clearances from Shanwick Oceanic Control can be heard on 127.65 (mainly European airlines) and 123.95 (for North American carriers) although since the advent of ACARS there are fewer airlines using this service.
-
Is there a web-based resource that captures ACARS messages related to North Atlantic clearances? I'm sure that I have seen something like this but I can't remember where.
-
For eastbound Atlantic airline flights if you know the flight number you can use www.flightaware.com. This will give you the filed ATC routing, but beware as flights do get inflight reroutes if they cannot be accomodated on their filed route.

Great site - many thanks tommyg!
Also thanks to Fenris and dca for additional useful info.
If I have any further questions on Trans-Atlantic routing, I'll start a new thread as we seem to have moved away from the A380 - F-HPJA subject, (sorry!)
Regards
Chris (10metres of Westflex 103 on order!)

Hi F-HPJA is airborne now coasting out the French coastline Le Touqet and heading towards Southern England Lydd presently. If the skys are as clear as here in NI you might get to see him soon.
John
-
F-HPJA just coasting out NW of WAL. If it's clear in the Isle of Man, watch out!

John
Yep, thanks John, just tracked it across England from near Lydd towards the Wirral.
Got the screendump I wanted, but too overcast too physically see it fly just east of my house - after a morning of glorious blue skies here in the Midlands - AARGH!
Am a happy boy now its eventually in MyFlights log!
Cheers
Chris
-
Still watching it over NI. Only showing Fleet Watch aircraft on the map to remove 'clutter'.
-
Went right over my head here today, but it's been overcast all day so no chance to see up to FL380. Now, yesterday it was a clear blue sky without a cloud in sight until well after the time the flight was due, but the NA westbound tracks were all southerly.
-
I made an educated guess Chris, I was not sure but I looked at the track the aircraft was making and thought it was likely they were on a southerly track.
dca tipped me off as to http://www.turbulenceforecast.com/atlantic_westbound_tracks.php
as a useful source for Westbound tranatlantic flights.
Canonjohns40D let me know that F-HPJA was routing Le Touquet-Lydd this afternoon.
So putting the two together (northerly t/a tracks) and current position, I too took an 'educated guess' as to the fact it was going to route via the Midlands.
Many thanks all concerned - this is how the forum should work - I was getting a bit fed up of the bickering last week on other threads - thankfully the nameless clown concerned appears to have been banned!
-
I've just played back my recording and F-HPJA passed about 2nm NE of my home. Had the cloud not been there I could have watched through my binocs!
Airnav: please may we have a recorded format that can be fast forwarded and reversed and stepped in time when playing back? It would make the whole feature so much more usable.
-
Today's (Sunday) AF0006 flight is showing a 705 minute estimated delay!!
Wow - what's all that about?
-
It's just leaving Paris now
Rod

Hi currently abeam Southend similar track to yesterday and again cear blue skies here in NI
John
-
So it is - apologies all!
Some dodgy data on certain web sites....
http://www.flightstats.com/go/FlightStatus/flightStatusByFlightExtendedDetails.do?id=177740028&airlineCode=AF&flightNumber=6
Clear blue skies here too for a change
An embarrased Chris!
-
He is at the perfect height for an A380, 380.
John
-
Too far east for me - just passing 5 nm east of East Midlands now!
-
Soon OTT Leeds Bradford possibly more Northerly than yesterday so perhaps no show here in NI after all.
John
-
Or perhaps not turned Westerly then disappeared???
-
OK Back now E of Warton and Blackpool so on track near to m in NI.
John
-
Just watched it fly right over the house in a beautiful blue sky - perfect!
Rod in Chorley
-
Thanks Rod conditions ok here also so if he stays on track should be close to my home in Bangor. Camera ready so lets hope so. If successfulI will post after i return from my youngest Girl's Special School Christingle Service.

John
-
http://flightaware.com/live/flight/AFR6 shows the filed route and other useful info
Obviously more reliable gen today than the duff info I got from www.flightstats.com !
Chris

Just seen her over Cullybackey, very nice.
Stephen

Routing for tomorrow appears to be:
ATREX UT225 VESAN UL613 SOVAT UL613 SANDY UL613 DET UN601 LESTA UP6 RODOL UM65 TENSO UL603 REMSI UP6 DIMLI UN570 GINGA UN572 GOMUP 5900N 02000W 6000N 03000W 6000N 04000W 5800N 05000W PORGY HO N302C SPOTE N302C MOFAT ALB IGN IGN8

Well this was it over Bangor NI this afternoon, poor picture I know but still.
John
-
Thanks for this picture John !
-
Cracking picture John - certainly proof of clear blue skies over NI!
Hope Christingle service went well - I have fond memories of our dog (Pinza actually) having a feast on prepared oranges, raisins (and even the cocktail sticks..). Silly beast wasn't very well after either!
See www.flightstats.com have finally updated their false data on today's flight that confused me earlier.
Chris
-
Hi Chris and Hosch thanks re the picture it was hand held so a bit wobbly but it gives a reasonable representation as it overflew me.
The Christingle did go well. My youngest girl has Down's Syndrome and it was Her school's service today. I leave it every year with my spirits raised and faith that there is still a lot of good in this World, and that can't be a bad thing.
John

just about to fly over cheshire now
-
Hello there I am after a new camera how good is this one, and you obviously recommend it what is the exact model and how good is it against its competition, I want to use it at the airport for arrival and departure shots as well as taxiing aircraft

The camera body appears to show it as a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28, I'm sure you can Google for a review or more information on the camera.
I'd also guess that the lens shown doesn't come with the camera, and with an aperture like that means you need to have the income of a small country to afford one!
-
I use a combination of:
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Panasonic/panasonic_dmcfz28.asp)
Panasonic DMW-LT55E 1.7 x Tele-Conversion Lens
DMW-LA3 E Adaptor

Can you send me some pics offline mate, so I can see the quality, I hope you dont [email protected]

Not the A380, but also has a problem.
Not appear in any report to have two different dates in the registry, see attachment.

The same on Air France B772!

AFR 006 just off CDG heading towards the Channel Islands, as are most of the AFR transatlantic flights today.
-
Its a southerly track system today...
http://www.turbulenceforecast.com/atlantic_westbound_tracks.php
Reasonably strong headwinds for the first part of the journey too
Dave
-
Dave,
As you say it is southerly tracks today. There has been the odd one over Scotland. Pity as there has been blue skies for most of the day.
Ian

SE England was great this morning Ian, non stop eastbound overflights, with beautiful long trails!!
