Title: Diagnostic software for RB ?
Post by: MrT on November 21, 2009, 12:31:32 AM
Would it be possible to write a small utility program to test and monitor the RadarBox performance ?

Not sure what you mean, Can you explain what you mean by performance?

I was thinking of some way of seeing what offers the best for antenna performance/placement?

To offer a way of locating your antenna for best results when installing? That kind of thing?

And to just do a diagnostic report that all is functioning as normal ?

Just a basic diagnostic tool, kind of like old modems used to have.

I have had my RB for nearly 2 months and still not sure its working 100%

My antenna is located indoors and I get a lousy polar diagram. I have taken it outdoors, with no better results.

I figure I need a better antenna or maybe there is a problem with my unit.

I won't really know till I shell out $400.00 for an antenna kit (which I can't afford just at the moment).

Just be nice to know that all was working 100% before I needlessly send it back for repair/replacement

Did you take your antenna outside with a laptop, or by just extending the cable?

I took the laptop, RB, and supplied antenna outside. Made little difference.

I was in the backyard with houses all around though.

Im sure its just my location, not the RB or antenna.

Best way to check if your Radarbox is performing 100% is to find a hill, and test that you're getting around 200 mile range on the polar chart when sat on top of the hill with your laptop and antenna.

It's well worth taking your Laptop and RB to a slightly more open area.  The difference should be very noticeable.

Clear the Polar diagram and then select it on and watch it build up as aircraft are detected - it will give you a quick idea of any improvement in range.  If you can't get out in the open, then go up!  Putting the antenna on the outside window ledge upstairs should produce an instant improvement.

I've got that energy saving glass in the windows and the screening affect is very noticeable.

Got to go shopping now :-)

Thanks guys,

Im sure that I just need a better antenna or open area.

Will try it out tomorrow.
