Title: Why no photos?
Post by: gzerovti on November 09, 2009, 05:24:40 PM
I have installed v3.07 and all OK but no photos!

Can you tell me please what I am doing wrong.

I have the relevant boxes ticked.

Thanks

There is an issue with the server at the moment. We are working on it.

I thought everything was okay but after your post I checked and I only get a small % photo showing up

I got easyjet air lingus no problem so their an outstanding issue but airnav did say their was an issue with the server

Just started 3.07 and have 74 ADS-B a/c in My Flights and only one is displaying a photo.  Status says All Photo Requests Done and Preferences is set to Download Aircraft Photo.

Maybe I've got a setting wrong or the photo requests aren't being serviced?

We are fiddling the will the last few things, don't worry we are aware hence we didn't say everything is fully up.

It would be sensible for the software to indicate when it can't get the connection/information it wants.

Or if one had the option to turn off each of the network services - Shared data, photos, routes, registration and weather.  Or are there more?

It would seem that the flight list population delay might well have been associated with some of the network services being down.

What happens if the ANRB customer goes mobile without an internet connection?

The internet based services wouldn't work.

ANRB works fine when mobile - I regularly go mobile with my netbook, and ANRB works just fine.  Obviously, its best to set a QNH manually, and be aware that any new aircraft won't have photos.

Obviously, but that wasn't the thrust of my post.

I don't know for sure, but things may be different if a connection attempt returns host unreachable (so not network available at all) rather than a connection being accepted by the remote server and then doing nothing.

I suppose the server could simply do a RSET on the socket to avoid this, if it's present but not actually serving requests.

The difference was our server was online, but the requests through the last few days it was waiting for a response for the data.

When your not connected to the internet it failis to connect straight away and doesn't try again.

What does the QNH mean and what setting should I have it set to?

Take a look at this for starters:

I do this regularly Mike.  Basically, it just means that you don't get any Network traffic or updates, but everything that has already downloaded/populated onto your PC will still be available.

So, you will get all the existing aircraft details in NavData.db3, all the routes, all the thumbnail pictures, all the outlines.  Quite frankly, if you've been running your RB for a while and don't go too far from your home location, you're going to see all your 'normal' traffic and you won't notice too much of a difference.

Why don't you just switch off your modem and see for yourself.
