This new shot shows at the bottom - Hardware connected. With Radar Box you cant operate it without the hardware connected. Does this mean, despite what was said earlier, that some hardware will be required to be running alongside the software?.

Yes, like the concept and look forward to the release. I've never seen the term "motoring" though, what does this mean as far as the ship's progress is concerned please? I can see "sailing", "Anchored", "moored" which are all self explanatory, is this term taken straight from the AIS signal terminology?
The only other concern at present would be something to prevent "overlap" of labels, I can see movements in the dock obscured from view by labels at certain times. On the other hand I like all the information that is being displayed so guess a switch to either turn them off, or perhaps just select skeleton information should that be a problem.
I assume that the table can be switched off or on to allow full screen viewing if desired?
Well done to the ShipTrax delevopment team.

- Motoring is technical AIS term for when a ship is navigating under own motor power. What do you suggest as an alternative? Sialing?

- Overlap of labels is automatically done. This is a feature AirNav Systems developed a few years ago and present on all our programs.

- The table can be easily switched on and off just like in RadarBox.

Any suggestions are welcome.

If that is the technical AIS terminology, "motoring" is fine by me. An alternative would be "under way". We have a few "Thames Barges" sailing as pleasure craft in this area and they are fitted with AIS. They come up as "sailing" which is correct and immediatly shows you the difference between "sail driven" and "engine powered".

Cheers

Any idea of the price and release date?

Also, what would be required with the purchase of the ShipTrax software?

Price will be around 59 EUR and release date Mar 2008.
It may receive ship data form the internet (no hardware needed) or from a NMEA serial engine (like NASA Marine AIS Engine).

Hi,

At the moment I'm using for 2 years shipplotter for AIS in the Rotterdam harbour and  sharing function for the rest of the world. in ShipTrax is there no option to use your radio scanner with discriminator port via your soundcard? Or there wil be?

Regards,
Etienne

OK, thx.
I have one doubt: the shiptrax is in same system like RB?
A little box and antenna?
Or we have buy a registration code and download from airnav website a program for use like airnav live track?
Thx
Good work.

Development,

How can I do receive it if I am 45 nm from the coast with a lot of obstacles?

It's a matter of testing but it should be possible. Shiptrax will work in networked mode so all you receive wil be seen by other users (just like RadarBox) . So if you have a user closed to the coast you will be able to see what he receives.

You almost certainly won't be able to receive live transmissions that far from the coast, but like me, you will be using the network data provided by other users who are near to the sea.

However, I will be taking my laptop and ShipTrax when I visit the coast!

Can you give me a "guesstimate" of when your ShipTrax product will be out?

I was all set to buy the SR161 then I saw the Comar USB AIS engine was going
to be released. If you're still 8-10 months away from a ShipTrax receiver I don't
think I'll wait. If it's only 2-3 moths away I may wait.

You should wait. What we are preparing is something never seen in the Ship Tracking scene. :-) We want to release it in March-April this year.

Before the RB was released there was a "partial" RB web page on the AirNav web
site. We were able to get a few early facts/specs and a look at the hardware.

Is there anything you can show us or specs you can tell us about?

We are preparing it. That page should be available as soon as RB1.4 is released.

Underway using engines

Not under command
Restricted in ability to manouver

Dredging
Diving Operations

FYI Whilst sailing in the arabian gulf and indian ocean, i've witnessed targets from over 1000nm!

I hope this isn't like radarbox v1.4 where AirNav said that it would release in mid-January when it actually released 2 months later in March. :(

Actually ShipTrax development is a little delayed and we don't plan to release it before May. Anyway with the quality of systems compared with other ship tracking systems available I would wait much more than that. :-)

What Kind of range do you get from the Box? I live in Sydney Australia  and we often have beautiful ships coming in to port or the beach ( Pasha Bulka at Nobys Beach in 2007)
