Title: Local Coverage
Post by: puddy on September 29, 2009, 06:00:30 PM
Since I have been using my radarbox I have been wondering why I get no very close local coverage of any aircraft.

Could my bog stand aerial be faulty?

Try and get your aerial up as high as possible and out of the way of anything.
Outside is always best

i can't see any planes landing 30 kms away but i am at 400 meters above the airport, maybe the lobes of the aerial do not point down, try removing the plate or changing orientation of the aerial i can see differently if i put it horizontally get it high and you will get lightning struck easier.. i burnt a pcr 100 with lightning since then i keep my aerials low and must be content with that. i have had a strike this year too, burnt all my telephones and modem
cheers

I think it is more that your location is in an area firmly reserved for military and general aviation traffic which will appear on your myflights list but are not ADS-B equipped to appear on the map.  ADS-B aircraft are rare in that area. If you want to be certain turn of your local flights and study the network traffif to see if those ADS-B aircraft approach your home location.

Thanks for the tip I will go with military airspace

RAF Mildenhall
RAF Coningsby
RAF Lakenheath
2 RAF ranges
RAF Waddington
RAF Marham
RAF Wittering
Are all within a few minutes from my house so I think military airspace could be the problem

My old neighbour (RAF Sergeant) got me on a 1 to 1 VIP tour of RAF Coninsgby  base.

He got me a signed print of 2 seater trainer Typhoon jet and all the aircrew signed it for me, it was a great day out
