Title: Silhouettes
Post by: Jeremy on September 20, 2009, 03:11:26 PM
How do I attach a particular silhouette to a Registration of a particular aircraft? What I want to do is find a sillouette for Air Ambulance helo and attach it to the local G-HBOB.

Jeremy,

Do you mean a silhouette, or do you mean a flag?  G-HBOB is an EC35 helicopter and this silhouette is included with the RB software.

If you mean a 'flag' then this is selected based on the Flight ID, so can be set up using the D008.dat file.

Tarbat is the man to advise here I think :-)

Silhoutte is derived from the short aircraft type - eg EC35
Flag is derived from the ModeS hex code, using the D008.dat file
Logo is derived from the Flight ID - Rod's the expert on logos!!

Jeremy - if you meant a logo, here's one I've just done for you - I'll post it in the Logos thread too. There is also a general-purpose Air Ambulance logo in the logos thread that you could use.

Remember that logos are generated by the Flight ID - no ID, no logo.

Does the aircraft type i.e. EC35 come from the aircraft or where? I see G-HBOB but no Type. I sometimes see the FlightID and sometimes not.

Jeremy - the Type code is derived from the Navdata database by looking up the Mode-S code transmitted by the aircraft - it doesn't transmit it itself.

The flight ID is broadcast by the aircraft along with the Mode-S code, and can be set by the aircraft crew, so they can type it, mistype it, or not bother!

I sometimes see the FlightID and sometimes not.

You will see more FlightIDs (and therefore more operator logos) when V3 is released as it decodes some that V2 doesn't.

No. What I meant was that sometimes I see the Registration and Flight ID and sometimes just the Flight ID, from the Air Ambulance Helo. Presumably the mode-s data packet gets corrupted and I only receive some of it.

I think this should be a EC135

Full Type is Eurocopter Deutschland EC-135 T2+

ICAO type is EC35 - as used in the 'Short Type' in the RB databases.

Good afternoon Rod,

Is not possible to arrange a Silhouette Logo for the MRTT (tanker A330)?

Thanks,
Aerotower

Hi Aerotower

As far as I know the MRTT doesn't have its own ICAO code, so won't show a separate silhouette.

I don't create the formal silhouettes. Ian K is the man.

BTW We already have a proper thread for silhouette discussion here: http://www.airnavsystems.com/forum/index.php?topic=1290.0 (http://www.airnavsystems.com/forum/index.php?topic=1290.0)

Thanks Rod, as you rightly say the MRTT doesn't have it's own code but I have adapted the A330 silhouette to include the refuelling boom and have renamed it MRTT.

Many thanks to both!

PS-I asked a silhouette of the MRTT because I pick several times the EC-330 of the Australian Air Force is still in testing.
