The 380 made quite an impression ... on the runway ... during its arrival at AirVenture!

Runway 36 - 8000ft plus a crosswind and a zoom camera lens making the crabbed approach look more impressive - I've seen much worse!  It looks like the captain didn't want to float down the runway so flew it on firmly.  The news team certainly wanted to 'talk this up' but with all the competition between Boeing and Airbus, you would expect this ;-)

I guess that most people will have seen this one:

I actually got to see the 380 in flight after yesterday's airshow.  Amazing to see something of that size in the air!  I was impressed!

Jim,

it was an inpressive sight (just returned to UK after the show) - the semi stuned reaction to the comment by a 777 pilot when he mentioned the max certified weights of 750,000 lbs for 777 to 1.25million for the A380 - you could certainly hear a few jaws drop at that one. White Knight 2 was a real star though but the skycrane was also exciting to see

Paul:

I'm glad you got to experience Oshkosh!

I only got to spend Saturday afternoon on the airshow grounds this year, but I did manage to photograph a lot of activity during the week.  Having lived here since before the first "EAA Convention" made its debut in Oshkosh, I've witnessed its evolution close-up, and it never fails to amaze!

Hope you'll return again!

Jim :

yes - i am already looking at arrangements for next year which would be my 5th in a row (356 days and counting) Having been to numerous UK and european airshows it is in a different league when it comes to how well it is organised and the variety and quantity of aircraft it can accommodate. My only minor niggle from last year is the fact that the shuttle to the seaplane base only picks up / drops off at the main bus stop rather than at the ultralights/south 40's as in previous years. Having said that it is still a 'must do' for any aviation fan - the problem there is you will want to keep coming back.
