Title: WOW! Myflights up:-)
Post by: EGNXR on June 20, 2009, 12:25:21 PM
Hi all,

Just noticed my flights is showing 130 which is a record for me from home. Normally max out at about 105 at peak times.

How good is that:-)

After ive upgraded to V3 plus having my box serviced my flights logged for yesterday was 2944 !!!
Thats over double what i was getting before .

130 showing is a very good number indeed ... im not sure what my highest is but perhaps not that many ..

Good stuff.

V3.0 is much more sensible in terms of software and decodes more messages.

It would be even better if it displayed on the map, I would rather have an an accurate map plot as in V2 than more Myflights as per V3 and the map not plotting correctly ;-)

Unfortunately Not all aircraft send position information (althought most of them do, especially in Europe)...only those equipped with ADS-B. Have a look at the topic below for some more interesting info:

I am aware of this, I am refering to the issue with the current beta were the map stops updating unless you zoom in/out which did not happen in previous releases. One or two people have now mentioned this in the V3 beta feedback so its not just me.

As explained on that topic yesterday we are collecting all these problems and our programming team is starting to work on them. More than 400 users upgraded to V3.0 now and fortunately only 2 or 3 reported that problem so no panic at all.

I am surprised by this response, As you know I was involved in the closed beta and spent a lot of time providing feedback to you.

It is a problem to me when I no longer see aircraft being mapped, this did not happen until later releases of the V3 beta, but if you see no panic then I feel I have been wasting my time.

Maybe there's a lesson here.  Airnav, can we perhaps have a private forum for closed beta participants next time, so we can explore these types of problem before they get into the public beta.

A good suggestion, then we would have known issues of other testers.

For info I have been testing this on three separate systems so I am intrigued as to why only two or three users have noticed the redraw issue but then again if you do not zoom in/out you will not realise aircraft are not being plotted.

Did you change your settings in preferances like tarbat did, to 110/790

If you did, it would be showing more flights, in the total box at the top.

If you do extend your timeouts to 15 minutes, then it's advisable to also set a Quick Filter on MyFlights of Status <> 1Timeout

I like how it works now. Yesterday if I used version 2.0 I wold have 500 aircraft but I used V3.0 Beta and I had 1096 airplanes :-) Nice.

Can you explain what you mean ?

V3.0 has lots of enhancements, but I can't see any that would account for you picking up any more aircraft than you did before, let alone double the number.

I think he might be confused with the network flights.

V3.0 decodes more mode-s frames which results in more flight numbers being shown. In areas where there are a lot of mode-s only aircraft (no ADS-B) the number of aircraft received can double.

Yes, I understand that part - RadarBox displays some Flight IDs for non-ADS-B aircraft where previously you would see an aircraft without one.

In areas where there are a lot of mode-s only aircraft (no ADS-B) the number of aircraft received can double.

But I'm having problems making sense of this.  Surely you're not saying that some non-ADS-B (Mode S only) aircraft didn't appear on RadarBox in previous versions, but do now?

So exactly which category of aircraft do any newly-displayed additional ones fall into?
Title: Re: WOW! Myflights up:-)

Come on AirNav, you can't just leave this unanswered.

Consider.  If the competition came out with a new version of their software and claimed that it could result in up to twice the number of aircraft being picked up compared to previous versions, then you (and I) would want to understand how that can be, and we would be justifiably critical if they failed to back it up with facts.

Making a statement like

In areas where there are a lot of mode-s only aircraft (no ADS-B) the number of aircraft received can double.

but failing to explain where these additional aircraft are coming from sounds a bit like snake oil to me.

Looking at the published list of V3.0 enhancements I can't see anything that would account for this - have you left something out?  Granted, you are now decoding BDS2,0 frames which will allow you to display more flight IDs where previously flights would have been displayed with that field blank, but that's a completely different issue.

So allow me to ask again, what's the basis for the assertion that "the number of aircraft received can double" (or even increase at all) with V3.0?

over here in Ireland some days my flights going over the big pond to u.s.a. are about 200, i think its the jet stream it could go down to 50.
i mean they go top of Ireland one day then down the bottom next day

So allow me to ask again, what's the basis for the assertion that "the number of aircraft received can double" (or even increase at all) with V3.0?

I think they mean that there were some frames that were not decoded at all, or incorrectly before, so the fixes for that result in a greater number of aircraft shown when they would not have been before.

Agree with the increase in flights logged, usually got around a 1,000 with previous versions, but since upgrading on Thursday have had 1768,1781 & 1646 respectively.

I am still using v2.10 Beta here (no duplicates?) and although I have been close to that magic 3000 figure before ( I have always seen 2500+ unique aircraft a day) I have finally broken it!

See attached pic.

This is just my 'naked' antenna without a pre-amp.

I mention this because I have the Kuhne 1090 and am just waiting for a short length of pre-terminated Westflex 103 to connect to the pre-amp at the masthead.

I only want to do this once! ;^)

As I have said before I would rather not have a pre-amp but it seems the best solution to protect against ESD or whatever it is that has killed two boxes now...

Hi all,

I have seen a significant increase in individual aircraft record each day since using the V3 beta. I'm about 200 up on average each day. (13%)

IMHO there are several reasons compounded together which has given me this increase.

1. Season change in weather (More light aircraft up)
2. Season increase in commercial traffic (holiday trafic)
3. Mode-s changes that came in on 1st April (More Light + Mil mode-s traffic)
4. There is a subtle change in the sensetivity of the RB (Changes to the decoding Algorithm to stop purple rain etc)

Attatched is an exel graph of my polar diagram comparing V2 with V3 beta. Its not a massive change but its noticable.

Thats my take on it anyhow

Cheers John
