Title: Future Version Suggestions / Requests
Post by: AirNav Development on June 17, 2009, 05:10:34 PM
As you may know we are releasing V3.0 is a public beta version. This opens the door for users suggestions for new features that were not implemented until now.
Please use this topic to discuss these features as well as anything you would to see in your RadarBox 2009 software.

This is a very old thread describing the port 30003 output of the SBS-1.  I seem to remember some discrepancies though when comparing it to my SBS-1 output.

http://www.kinetic-avionics.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1402

I know that it was an aspiration to copy this format with RB to allow the use of add-ons and to aid the development of third party programs.

Dave Reid, over to you :-)

Up/Down arrows for climb and descend. Maybe some little testing to see if it passes for V3.0 or not.

I would like the facility to playback recordings at an accelerated rate so I can quickly scan planes that passed near my location throughout the day while I was away and then switch back to live realtime tracking.

1. keep +/- for ascending/descending, better still have a property whereby whoever wants arrows can have them, and the rest of us can keep the self explanatory symbols.
2. Get rid of the silly animated revolving icon in top right hand corner.
3. Open up the application with EXACTLY the same settings/screen setup as it was when it was last closed. If I say no sharing when I feel like it, I mean it. If I don't want pictures I mean it. Or at least ask, 'Do you want to save your layout' on exit.
4. MyLog - Reporter... Why only today and yesterday? Have a box for any date.

Don't get me wrong I think it is a wonderful bit of kit !

apologies if some of these are already on the list

Not had the beta to see if this has already been covered, but the one thing that I think would improve it, is to have conditional alerts.

I.e. to get only get an alert IF an aircraft has a ModeS of 43c* AND is Below FL160 for example.

port 30003
Support for port 30003 to be "compatible" with the SBS-1/BaseStation output format was, for a while at least, a "feature" of RadarBox.  In v2.0 at least, not all aircraft are supported: in particular, only those with full ADS-B support are delivered.  The request was for all aircraft to be delivered.  I see from some of the early v3.0 beta users that there's "more" data available, though it's certainly not what I'd call "compatible" ... for instance, only "MSG,3" format messages are delivered.  It's not terrible, but it could be better.  It just seems like the easiest thing to do is to deliver every message, but maybe I'm missing something ...

Does 3.0 have the ability to select which fields are displayed in the reports generated from MyLog?  That's something I would like, particularly being able to display the comments field because I manually add callsigns I hear on the radio if/when it is not displayed or is not the same as that displayed.

Better (ie aligned) formatting of the reports would be nice.

One change to the interface of the software that I would like to see, is support for dual screen operation.

Therefore being able to have the radar display on one screen and the flight details grid on another.

I'm seeing non-positional aircraft in Planeplotter now, running the v3.0 beta.  Check on the Planeplotter network, sharer code pQ.  5-min delayed of course.

I would like to be able to search MyLog for particular Flight ID's. I know Tarbat and co can do wonderful things with SQLlite and all that, but I just want to do it within the RB software.

Presumably this thread should be retitled V4 Suggestions./Requests now to avoid confusion with the soon to be released V3.0 public beta.

My request is for the flight details columns to be ordered and selected on or off.

Thanks

Two different issues here.

PlanePlotter doesn't use the socket output from either RadarBox or SBS to plot non-positional aircraft, in fact you can use PP's multilateration feature without having a Mode S receiver connected at all.

But it's still important to have non-ADS-B data in the socket output.  Ideally, third-party add-on applications (Squawkbox, for example) shouldn't have to know or care whether their feed is coming from RadarBox or SBS as they should be identical in format and content.

Planeplotter DOES use socket output for non-positional aircraft.  They appear in my Planeplotter aircraft list:

So v3.0 beta is definately outputting non-postional aircraft on both port 7879 and port 30003.

I am confused, which does not take much I know.

As the majority of use do not have v3.0 yet, therefore we are not fully aware of what has been or not been implemented, would this thread not be better left until we have all had a play then decide what we would like added?

No argument there - but what I said was "PlanePlotter doesn't use the socket output from either RadarBox or SBS to plot non-positional aircraft".  Yes, they appear in the PP Aircraft List, but they won't plot on the map unless their position has been multilaterated, and the multilateration process definitely isn't based on the socket output.

So v3.0 beta is definately outputting non-postional aircraft on both port 7879 and port 30003.

That's good to hear, a step in the right direction.  I look forward to its release.

I'd like an option to include all alerts in the Fleet Watch list - then you can just double-click on the aircraft in Fleet Watch to centre on it.

If the data on Ports 30003 and 7879 is now being delayed - is there any chance on 'live' data on another port - specifically the Mode-S, FlightID, Registration and Squawk.
This would enable the user to have a chance of listening to the traffic, the Squawk directing towards the frequencies to use - an external table and program!!!

Personally, I'd prefer Squawk Code lookup within Radarbox itself, as per previous request(s) - http://www.airnavsystems.com/forum/index.php?topic=1284

Another suggestion.  For non-ADS/B aircraft transmitting a Flight ID with a valid route, when that aircraft is seleted, display the route on the map, in the same way that ADS/B aircraft are displayed.

Suggestions/Requests?

<deep breath>

1. Undockable windows & proper multi-monitor awareness for the app. Please. Pretty please. With jam on top. I even offered to send Aleksey a second monitor so he could start work straight away! ;^)

2. Play Recorded File: Option to speed up or scan file rather than watch it in ‘real time’

3. Preferences: Grid Visible Columns – option to change display order

4. My Flights Window: Highlight the selected or alternate rows like an Excel spreadsheet?

5. Editing Aircraft: Why oh why do you limit editing to one cell at a time? And then click elsewhere just to be able to save it. Painful. SBS-1 for example opens up the whole aircraft record card so all changes can be made easily

6. Reporter: Why on earth are the only choices Today & Yesterday? Needs a calendar or some other way to choose also

7. Reporter: Yesterday should mean Yesterday. Not Yesterday minus Today!

8. FTP: Add configurable ftp upload time

9. FTP: Add enhanced information such as; Number of Flights Tracked etc.

10. Weather: Function works well with 3 choices but would it be possible to have it display in colourful, icon form such as that with other plug-in weather add-ons or the SBS-1 bolt on Metar Viewer?
See http://www.kinetic-avionics.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4423

11. Vastly expanded MyAlerts list to include;

Option to give description of Mode-S or Registration to identify at a glance what your own Alerts are for?

Send to SMS Text option. If sat outside in the garden it would be nice to know what the plane is that is flying overhead at that moment not run upstairs or wait until later when back at PC to read email…

…or option to format own email for using 3rd party Email to SMS services that may be limited to 160 characters?

Different actions for different type of alerts;

Different sound assigned for different types of alert

Different email address for certain alerts etc.

Option to click on Notification Message Box or Alert Log to select Alert in My Flights list and/or Map?

Keep a log of Alerts to browse at any time?

Identify Alerted flight in different colour/blinking etc.

There was more...but I'll stop there for now...I had already sent this very feature list in nearly a year ago and was hoping some of them would have made it into 2.0 let alone 3.0 - well you did ask AirNav! :-)

Thanks & regards,
-=Glyn=-

Dave,

My point was that this is such an early post and my experiments indicated that this isn't actually the SBS-1 port output - although I could be wrong.

Having AirNav reproduce this if it is wrong would just be a waste of time.  You seemed to have a good understanding of the port output in this thread, so I thought that you might be able to save them nugatory work and get the output to at least match that of the SBS-1.

You assume that AirNav have access to an SBS-1 to check the output.  They might have, but on the other hand they might not.

I'm not sure how many people are interested in the port output now anyway, so maybe this is a blind ally?

Hi,

I would have two suggestions for the New 3.0.

First, i would like to have  the possibility of having LONG TRAIL LINES
as with the SBS-1, it's interesting for exercice, test or finding flight.
(it seems that the parameter "seconds to remove trail line" not working).

The best was to select a flight and have a long trace only for it (dream).

Second, about the alerts function.
it's a good function, but unfortunateli  i am not present
when there is an alert, and send a mail or other functions
do not interest me, that i want is to SEE the flight on my RB.

so, it would be not possible to start a record (with define time) when
there is an alert.

With this function, i could finally see my Alert flight and especially display
his trace ... after the Alert.

minor remarks:

if you give more space on the Radar display,
it's not possible to display the entire Alerts functions, it was better for theses
screens to have differrents windows.

it's the same about the information on the low of the windows (informations
about network or hardware are not necessary, but i can't see the others
informations like distance, thats for me more importants).

Thanks,
F6GSG

Would it be possible to have the choice of having the interface at the bottom of the screen, aswell as left/right?

Particularly usefull for users monitoring left-right traffic with a small screen!

Am I correct in thinking that this is actually what v3.0 does?

I probably won't get to install the beta until the weekend now, so some sort of idea of what happens with 3rd party apps that use the port 30003 data would be useful. I presume that Squawkbox works.

Also, what about multiple listeners on a port? Can one now have more than one program receiving port data?

I have no idea.

These are not solely my ideas but collected as well from others that I find useful. Though, some may be nonsens, take them for what they are - pure ideas.

- "3 dimensional" polar diagram
in order to review the receiption relative to height of the sending aircraft; multiple polar diagram lines for different heights; simplest solution would be to integrate polar diagram drawing in the "vertical tracking view" as a first step

- List of aircrafts not "jumping"
new entries should add to table without the table to "jump" wildly (to avoid loosing a selected entry)

- Fast forwarding recorder
allow fast forward or faster playing of recorded flights

- FTP intervall setting
allow user defined intervall settings

- Updated manual/on-line help
specially correct the "40004" port info (it was taking me hours to learn its actually port 30003)

- Smooth moving network traffic
Network traffic shall move as smooth as local traffic, user enabled option to display this "predicted movement" of network traffic (but without increased download frequency of data from AN server)

- Record network traffic
feature to somehow record (all/selected?) network traffic for later review

- Network traffic data output
e.g. for use in add-ons

- Longer lasting trail lines
increase display time for the trail lines (min 1h?). Even better: delete them only upon user request

- New full screen mode
pure radar screen only - no scroll bars, no windows title. Aircraft information as pop-up

- User defined aircraft icon
user defined icon to anything other than the airplane/square

- User defined aircraft label
user defined label containing selected items only (e.g. flight# & height only)

- Shorter path vector
Option to have a shorter path vector (just 3 dots is ok) or let length be set by the user

- Undockable windows

- Customizable menue bar
let user define, which icons will be shown

- Moveable menue bar
the top menue bars (icons) should be able move within the menue bar plane

- International data entries
the drop down boxes of Orign, Destination & Airport contain US airports as presets only and thus are kind of worthless for international users, especially since almost none of the US airports have network traffic available. Fill them with international entries instead.

- User defined Quick lists

- User defined fonts for aircraft tables

- Google maps support

- Weather overlay
display the current weather as map overlay; simple graphics will do it (e.g. only show severe weather)

- Alert list
rather than giving a single alert window, show all alerts in a list, newest alert on top

Hate to be a bit of a pain Airnav but the new version now has too many Fix points. I like to have them on and zoomed in close enough for the names to be there but now with so many some names are blotting out the names of others. Could we have some sort of filter for them for example a way of showing just the Fix points with names and filtering out the numerous new ones which are on version 3 which consist of just letters and numbers. Around the Glasgow area is congested I shudder to think what it must be like around Heathrow.

Cheers,

I suggested this in the other thread yeh, may have a choice of the original Fix Points (plus the additional new updated ones ive noticed i.e Subuk) but the ones indicating a distance to Fix Point or VOR do tend to clog the screen around airports / holds etc.

I asked a fair while ago - if it would be possible for the country of registration to be included in the lower area, where you list airline, Registration, Type C/N, and Flight details  -as at times I cannot recognise the flags of the countries in the flight detail lines.

Also is there a non-delayed port for the Squawk, Mode-S, Flight-ID and Registration ??   - this is to interface to Squawk box for ideas of radio frequencies to monitor - delayed in this instance is no use at all.

Tarbat - that is an alternative, although as many Squawk codes are reused, within the UK,  The table concerned would need to be easilly editable to localise the possible duplicate codes.
How this would affect EU, US and other zones is probably unknown!!!

Yes, in that respect SBS scores over RadarBox in that the former outputs real-time AIR and ID messages with hex code and Flight ID respectively.

Another good reason to emulate SBS correctly !

I found, as many others, that adding Fixes to the map causes cluther on the map and slow responses.
However it would be nice if I (without selecting "Fix" in the Aviation Signs menu) can type a Fix name in the Locate window and then get a highlighted marker on the map.

Just to drop a small note: this topic is getting really interesting. Once V3.0 work is finished we will start to think and develop all this.

One request for you all which are also forum readers: to keep the forum organized whenever you see a valid request for a new feature please ask the user to drop that request here or to change topics to this one. We want to keep all centralized (we will be watching the forum for this too).

I think we can take that as read - there wouldn't be any point in releasing a beta version and collecting reports on bugs unless it was planned to do something about them :-)

Another suggestion for a future version.  Make better use of colours in the aircraft list.  Here's an example of what I'm suggesting:

(http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3365/3650462620_9f44b0541b.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/tarbat/3650462620/sizes/o/)

1. Alternate lines are coloured yellow.
2. Aircraft with a current ALERT are coloured red.
3. Maybe some other suggestions on how background colours could be used.

Please don't use red, some of us are red/green colour blind and the line becomes hard to read. Use of colours needs to be considered carefully.

Another suggestion.  For network flights, when plotting the trail dots every 30secs, draw a line between the dots for each aircraft.

Post by: tarbat on June 22, 2009, 08:54:59 PM
Another suggestion.  Sort the standard DAILY and YESTERDAY reports by Aircraft.Registration then by Flights.EndTime

This would give a "better" view of an aircraft's transition from one FlightID to the next, with the routes then making more sense also.

mike

The Alerts are a great idea but IMHO they need to be expanded greatly - see my previous post in this thread.

Not only a different sound for different types of Alerts but different notifications also.

For example I have my Alerts set to let me know when there is an aircraft within a 5 mile range, all RAF aircraft, all USAF aircraft and many specific aircraft.

I would like the ability to send an email (or preferably SMS Text) for example only when the Vulcan goes up.

The only option I have at the moment is all Alerts on or all Alerts off so I would receive an email (or SMS Text) for each & every alert or none of them whatsoever.

----------snip----------
Option to give description of Mode-S or Registration to identify at a glance what your own Alerts are for?

Send to SMS Text option. If sat outside in the garden it would be nice to know what the plane is that is flying overhead at that moment not run upstairs or wait until later when back at PC to read email…

…or option to format own email for using 3rd party Email to SMS services that may be limited to 160 characters?

Different actions for different type of alerts;

----------snip----------

Glyn - back last summer I suggested that the alerts should work like conditional formatting in Excel - if you're not familiar with that, basically what I'm saying is that I agree with you :-)

The alert function should be a lot more flexible - I'd like an alert that, for example, plays a particular sound when the aircraft within 5 Nm range isn't Ryanair, easyJet, or Aer Lingus, and a different sound if it is.

That sort of subtlety would be really useful, as well as, of course, a better log and the ability to go to the alert aircraft on the grid and map.

Maybe this version, maybe next - we live in hope!

Come on Dev - Just Do It ;-)

the ability to go to the aircraft on the map by clicking on the alert would be great, and something i'm really hoping for in a future version.
also be able to select a plane, and keep it selected ; selecting a plane and loosing it just by a slight move of the mouse over the map ore list is something i find verry anoying.

My biggest single bug bear with RB is having no access to the network data which other RB users have contributed, I would be willing pay the requested subscription for network data, if we could record or preferably have direct port access to it other than the current method of it just being able to view it on the RB graphics.

In my view Network data is the RB biggest selling point yet it lets itself down by not making it accessible outside of the real time (well 5 minute delayed) graphics.

Now that you can get freeware (well almost) like PlanePlotter that gives you this same network data access, albeit on a more limited basis than your network currenty but it is growing by the day as both RB and SBS sharers grow.

The PlanePlotter sharing model is something IMHO you should look at as it works very well and is also very fair. They place server side restrictions to the network data downloads so that masses of network data cannot be downloaded (not that I would think that would be possible due to bandwidth restrictions).

I am aware of your Live Data product but the pricing structure on that is way out of us mortals reach and is aimed firmly at the commercial market.

If I have paid £400 for the hardware, uploaded and shared all of my local data for free to share with you and the all the other RB and commercial users and then paid £50 subscription on top of that each year for access to my fellow RB contributors data I would expect to be able record it or actually do what I want with it (within reason).

There... that is my request :)

Great summary Terre, thanks for taking the time & trouble to compile it.

You should already have a list like that AirNav! ;^)

Can I add to MyLog the ability to search using the keyboard similar to File Explorer, iTunes and most other programs that allow a search to take place?

Example;

You have already clicked on the A/C name but then want to search for McDonnell Douglas.

Rather than use the scroll bar - which lets be honest is a bit hit & miss - you could press the 'M' key on the keyboard whereby you are taken to the first entry beginning with the letter M.

From there you want a shortcut to BAE systems so you hit the letter B and are taken to the first aircraft in the list that begins with the letter B and so on and so forth.

Make sense?

Also never noticed in the list the ability to click on an aircraft either in the Alert list or popup notification box and jump to or be taken to its corresponding entry in MyFLights and shown on the map?

Regards,

Or better still some sort of media player bar with Stop, Pause, Play, Beginning, End (maybe FF/REW) and a slider bar showing progress much like most of the media players out there?

Even a simplified interface such as the standard Microsoft Sound Recorder that has been present in most versions of Windows would do the job.

Great list Terre

Some things I have been thinking about since playing with Beta 3, and having now taken my RB to Paris and Amsterdam.

1. Reported - ability to create a list of arrival and depatures listing for a specific day, in time order. Based on altitude and distance from your location?

There is a poster on our local Manchester group who can do this from an SBS utility to show any aircraft that landed or departed from MAN (EGCC), so not quite sure how it is done.

2. Ability to have multiple filters in MyFlights. You can only select one "Quick Filter"

3. Preference to set specific aircraft types not to be displayed in MyFlights (and in Map if ADSB).

For example, I am not interested in light aircraft like Cessna 152s. On a recent trip to AMS, I had quite a few showing like that.

Would also like these not to be logged in MyLog.

With the recent CAA news, I guess more and more aircraft will start to be logged, hence why it will be good to have a block on aircraft people are not interested in

Thanks AirNav for all the hard work, it is appreciated by myself

Hi

seen a few comments in here about VCR features.
I don't use the record feature myself, but instead of trying to re-invent the wheel, my suggestion is to make the 'recording' in a choice of external media player formats, eg wmv/avi, then the job is done, finished.
Let AirNav stick to what they are good at and not get bogged down with having to support their own media player.
Title: Re: Future Version Suggestions / Requests
Post by: Terre on July 09, 2009, 03:48:55 PM
Thing is, there is no videostream that gets recorded, but pure data. So it's not an other kind of media player that is asked for. The demand is for controls like with a VCR to give the option to speedup, rewind, etc. the playback of the flight data.

The IAS is rarely available, if at all - AFAIK.

One implementation of this could use different colours to indicate different altitudes.  Something like this:

Another feature that would make the app more functional for me at least, much nicer to use and which I don't recall being mentioned recently would be the ability to select an aircraft and have only that flight appear on the radar screen (and possibly in MyFlights) so you can easily keep track of it without the screen being cluttered by other aircraft?

This would be a quick & easy way to track a single aircraft on the virtual radar screen without resorting to filters, Fleetwatch etc. and without losing your place in the list as it would ususlly be jumping around all over the place?

What I would like is to be able to click to select the aircraft and then click a single icon to remove all others from the radar screen and list leaving just the selected aircraft visible?

Much like the video version of the Mute button in a music sequencing program...does that make sense?

Maybe also the ability to right-click on an aircraft in the list and have a pop-up menu (similar to the standard Windows function) that might show Properties to detail information about that particular aircraft , Show only that might remove all other aircraft from the list, History to open a window showing the flight history of that particular aircraft etc.

ISTR asking for this about a year ago but maybe it is something others don't want/need?

Thanks & regards,

Hi all,
1:- would like an "F" key or shortcut key stroke to "SHOW/HIDE" the Interface and the choice to have the Interface along the bottom of the screen as well as LEFT or RIGHT, along the bottom would allow you to see the relevent info on a flight selected instead of keep draging/expanding it.
2:- In the TOOLS or FILE menu a link to SAVE/BACKUP the NavData.db3 and MyLog.db3 files to the folder of your choice.
Thankyou.

Someone else has suggested this, and I've been proposing it to AirNav for ages, but I'd really like to see a floating info panel for the selected aircraft (photos and details that can be turned on and off, perhaps with the TAB key) when you are in full-screen map view - perhaps it would look like this:

Another request:

In MyLog, there's some wasted space below the photos. If I click on a flight on the left, I'd like to see a decode of the route there. I'm probably not the only RB user who doesn't instantly recognise all the ICAO airport codes in the world.

Oh, and why not make the photos in MyLog clickable to open them in Airliners?

Two requests

Change the Airliners photos from most popular to most recent.  All ANet photos are now good quality pictures. People visiting ANet tend to look more at the arty photos that show unusual things like cockpits or night shots.  Therefore the most popular pictures are not necessarily the best pictures for our purposes.  The most recent image tends to show the most recent colour scheme worn.  Here are some examples

9M-MPP
Most recent, a clean side shot http://www.airliners.net/photo/Malaysia-Airlines/Boeing-747-4H6/1547753/&sid=a71c8625fc73f1f39365dced2c880016
Most popular, a arty shot where the scheme is not clear  http://www.airliners.net/photo/Malaysia-Airlines/Boeing-747-4H6/1354302/&sid=a71c8625fc73f1f39365dced2c880016

Finally one that has changed airline G-TTID
Latest in EZY logo http://www.airliners.net/photo/EasyJet-Airline/Airbus-A321-231/1494057/&sid=c7fbde99bf99e86b3cf736bff487f4af

The Second topic is to have the the 'aircraft' database as the top tab on the Navdata explorer.  People usually want to update aircraft details. However the first tab currently is the 'actype' tab which is now unused in the current versions.  All it would require would be to rename this tab 'type' which would then mean that the 'aircraft' tab is the first alphabetically and therefore the one displayed on opening the explorer.

ACW - agree with your commants about the Airliners photos - as to the renaming of the table, while it would be a good idea, you will find that when version 3 is finally released, one of the right-click options will take you straight to the aircraft table for the plane you want - it's a huge time and effort saver :-)

The most recent Airliners image still can be an arty shot or an older image there is no way to stop this other than to select your own. I often upload older shots taken years ago which will be the latest in the database.

May be the best answer is to have it selectable so you can download the most recent or the most popular, we all have different tastes ;-)

Hi Brimon,

I've been requesting something along this line for a couple of years now...

I'm hoping it will be implemented soon.  For now I manually edit my photo file to show a HEARD, SEEN or HEARD/SEEN icon and this is the result.  It's a little primative and time consuming but I enjoy doing it and best of all I can see anywhere on the network an aircraft that have actually seen, heard over the radio, or both.

Maybe something like this could be used in a pop-up box as per some of the great suggestions noted in this thread.

Hi Airnav

Is it possible for a future release to allow, for a single aircraft, the user to select the information shown on the interface and with say a right click option cut and paste this into the forum pages. The reason? If I am alerting others to Intersting Aircraft or Interesting Military Aircraft i am writing the information down then typing it onto the forum. Just a thought!!.

There will be a right-click option to copy a FIELD to the clipboard, which may help a bit. Copying the whole record (or the whole visible record, or the whole visible record without logo/silhouette, or whatever) may be a possibility for future versions.

Hi ScandiNor,

there is a status 'Ground' in the MyFlights/Network grid. However, you have to set a relevant QNH value in preferences for this status to show. See these links for more info:

I can't see any reason why 'Ground' status shouldn't reflect the air/ground status bit that's normally sent in the All-Call Reply and Extended Squitter messages.

Having to manually set the QFE value to get the altitude readout to show zero seems a bit hit and miss to me.

Alternatively, while surface position squitters are being received (which don't contain an altitude, for obvious reasons), RB should automatically display altitude as zero.
Title: Re: Future Version Suggestions / Requests
Post by: ScandiNor on July 19, 2009, 10:15:57 AM
Dave,

That is also my thinking.  I see that status codes like "Departure", "Climb", etc are probably derived from combinations of Altitude and VRate.  However, it should be possible to just detect and display "On ground" status from the squitters.

Cross post from my earlier post in the main discussion forum ...

" ...

After using RB for over 1 year now, I have a few suggestions that would make life a lot better ...

1) It would be nice to filter/sort on the routing field so that you can see all aircraft either inbound/originating at a particular airfield

2) I often sort the 'interface' by altitude, particularly if I am sitting at an airport trying to monitor inbound/outbound aircraft.  The problem is that as soon as you position the cursor on a particular record, the whole screen jumps so that particular record is in the middle of the screen - this is hugely annoying and can make it very difficult to read.  If you can find a way to freeze the middle of the screen at a particular altitude (if you're sorting on the altitude column) it would provide a much smoother way of seeing what's going up and what's going down ...

3) Add an option to list all 'timeout' aircraft at the bottom of the list, rather than the current approach.  Again, the current approach can make it very difficult to keep your eye on a particular aircraft because it's relative position in the list is constantly changing.

4) Improve the ability to display/hide/reorder fields

5) Fix the '...' in the 'Aircraft' field of a lot of records.

6) Improve the 'Reporter' functionality to have more flexibiliity in selecting the data to be included in the report.

That's all I can think of at the moment.  I hope to see some of these suggestions (or the spirit of them) incorporated into the program in due course.

Regards,
Tony

How about some sort of web utility that continually pings the network to say whether it is active or not? Every time users lose network flights or have network problems we end up with a new post on the forum with people unsure whether it is their system or the network that is at fault (especially now while we are testing the Beta software). A general web page utility showing the state of the network would help.

I would suggest removing the START TOUR field from the header; place it under the TOOLS drop down as an option. It is a facility that is hardly ever used yet takes up valuable space on the header area. I also have a habit of hitting it in error in lieu of My Flights when returning from Alerts or Network!

Replace the use of the ESCAPE Key to see the Full Screen with a Function Key. Leave ESC as its normal use - as a means of backing out of a transaction, or clearing an unwanted dialogue box.

Hi, I know that this is a very hard request, but should be wonderful to have an instrument that permit to measure radials and distances (like a real radar). That should be useful to measure separation between aircraft, distance aircraft-points, etc...

EDIT:
Another request, possibility to activate navaids and fixes only where are necessary, because loading it the performance fall down drastically. At the moment I've done this, defining my Fixes, VORs, NDBs using the Custom Legend List, and obtaining very good performance zooming and scrolling the map.

A comment from Dave Reid about position accuracy:

"All ADS-B aircraft send a parameter called NUCp, which we don't see on either RadarBox or SBS, indicating the accuracy of the ADS-B position data."

Could Radarbox decode this parameter and then indicate aircraft which are not where they say they are?

Yes.  It's possible to do it with SBS if you have access to the raw Mode S data packets, but for RB it would be dependent on AirNav adding the facility in a future version.  Assuming they want to, of course.

I think a filter such as described above would be a very useful feature...for someone living near an airline hub the ability to filter out large quantities of based "local" traffic would be a great boon (living near Heathrow the large amount of BA and BMI traffic is something I'm sure I'd soon get over not being able to see !!!)

Unfortunately the EHS parameters are send in an MB block that doesn't identify which transponder register has been interrogated (either BDS4,0 BDS5,0 or BDS6,0).  That's not a problem for ATC, since the interrogating SSR obviously knows which parameters it has requested, but for a Mode S receiver that only picks up the downlink it's quite a challenge to identify which one is being received.

It's not impossible (I've done it with SBS) but I wouldn't hold your breath ...

I'd rather not have it any wider, because I will then loose other data that I'm interested in.

Of course, the best solution of all would be to have the column width user sizeable and to be able to change the order of the columns :-)

This is what I have in my aircraft list.  If the Route column is any wider, then I'm going to loose the squawk unless I reduce the size of the map.

Hi! Is it possible in a future version changing the way the FTP is shown, for anything like this page? (http://www.kispo.net/sbs-1/LisPic/) with the interface and several maps.

Thanks

You can already do this yourself, although not using the Radarbox FTP upload.

- Open 2 RB maps and tile them and the aircraft list

- Use 3rd party screen capture and FTP upload software.  I presume that this is how your SBS-1 example has been done, as the BaseStation software does not have a built in FTP function.

Maybe RadarBox could have an option that FTP uploads the whole active RB interface window, rather than just the map window?

I'd like to see better integration of ACARs data with Radarbox

e.g. in the example below we have ACARs data which shows Airline, Flight ID and also routing information and despite RB receiving this info from ANAD nothing is displayed in the RB screen :(

The info is there - can we get it integrated into RB?

I too would like multi-screen support. If the radar screen, then the flight info, and the aircraft images could be seperate resizeable windows this would be fine then I could use over 2 or 3 screens.
I would like to ba able to view hardward received flights differently with say the the flight level(or flight no) shown in a user defined colour. I know the star shows the same but I think the colour difference wold be easier (for me anyway).
I like the satellite map image but why do I have to keep reloading it if i move the map? I think this needs improving (fixing) you should be able to load a high def image of europe in and its there (correctly positioned if you move the map).
I cant seem to change the fonts on the radar screen (that would be nice too).

I do think the Acars should be in-built as standard, not anothe £100 bolt on..

Comon' AirNav some of these "tweaks" aren't major.. anyone else interested in the same? If so make a post.

Most definitely the multi-screen support...I even asked for this before I bought my first RB over a year ago.

Also FYI the ANAD is not a £100 bolt-on as it can be purchased directly from AirNav for $34.95 or £22.54 including 6 months subscription.

You do not need the subscription after that if you feed it audio from your own scanner for example...

But beware the program is very long in the tooth now and hasn't had an update in years. And it shows.

Where did you see it as a £100 option - W&S by any chance?

I *think* I also see some strange behaviour when changing the fonts...sometimes they do change but often they do not seem to reflect changes made in my user preferences...unless it is my eyes of course!

I can't duplicate it here...

I run ANAD in "minimal" mode with all the views except the text screen turned off. I remember ANAD would appear to "freeze" while downloading photos and I couldn't see any good reason to download/display them so I turned them off.

One thing I have asked support for and they say isn't possible is to sort Network traffic according to incoming flights to a particular airport. I am aware that to sort outgoing flights,  the Airport* works, but this doesnt work putting it in front.  When sat at home and deciding wether to head to my local airport, 45min journey I would find this a useful feature. (it's no use seeing what I have missed depart) I know you can do this on the map but you have to be zoomed in to read the registrations and pan all around Europe. Would it be possible to do this through the Network flights search options in the future?

Count me in for this one as well Peter.

I would go one step further and ask that if the box is checked ANRB then fires up ANAD as part of its own loading process

I have already asked for this some time ago now and I was kinda hoping this (and many other features) would find their way into this next release. :-(

If you always want to run this combination then why not have the icon start a batch, or script file that starts the ANAD, pauses for a few seconds then starts the ANRB, with the /connect option appended to the command line.
This way 1 double click will start to 'FULL' system that you want.

Except that ANAD will not be connected to ANRB because currently it always starts UNconnected.

Hence the request to remember the setting.

Sounds like the always connect to Network being forced, rather than defaulting to stored user choice.
A save of ALL selected options would be very nice!!!!
Map settings,  ACARS, Network  - any others??

Yeah...I will never understand why, if it is a USER Preference ANRB then takes it upon itself to decide how ANRB wants your preferences to default at startup.

Others might not mind how many mouse clicks it takes to put everything back to how they want it but when I buy a program I want it to work for me...not against me.

I can tell you that the new release won't have this feature: how about, when you click on an ADS-B flight in MyLog, the map shows a line between the Start and End positions, rescaling and repositioning as required.

I don't know about you chaps, but I can't easily visualise the flight with just the Lat/Long numbers. I know that for some flights, for example, training flights, the start and end positions might be the same, but for most flights it would be a useful addition.

Every time we get a new logo, silhouette, flag, colour scheme, or outline, we have to close and restart ANRB to get them to register.

Would it be possible to have, possibly on the File menu, an option to reload auxiliary files to reload all these without a full restart?

Recorded the traffic to .rbl files.

The .rbl are to be played in RadarBox ... This does not preclude that someone can develop a program to allow viewing of these files which are simply lines of text.

In RadarBox just use a text editor program and select the rows corresponding to the time that you want to watch and place them in another text file that recorded the file extension of the recording. Even with Notepad can do this ...

Sorry my English

2 - In MyLog, if we click on a flight, why not use the space below the photos to decode the selected the route?

Posted into correct thread this time

I have a small suggestion for the next beta.

Inclusion of Country name in route information panel.

At present, when you hover over a plane, the information panel next to the photo will only show Airport Name, ICAO code, and State name if US airport.

Could this not be expanded to include country name, which is value 'pt' in the airports database, but have this user selectable in options for those that don't want it displayed.

Although my Geography is good, I don't know where every airport is in the world!

Is it possible to widen the airline column to include the whole logo? Can we move the Distance/Brg box to the left say, before the Msg/Sec box? - or be able to reduce the Hardware Connected and Network box to just the coloured square. At least be able to choose format/location.

Thanks

We have to trade off the amount of mapping points for coasts with how much CPU will need to be used.

If we model those areas accurately, it will extend CPU usage quite a bit. There are ways round this similar to what google earth uses which we will look into.

Hi All,

How about having a 2nd Polar Diagram option available that would show your reception for just a single day.

The reason why I would request this is it would allow you to check on your system on a daily basis and confirm that your reception is working ok. The 2nd Polar Diagram would therefore allow you to see what your reception is on any one day as compared to your full Polar Diagram.

I would find this usefull as a check on how my system is working on a daily basis.

Thanks,
Title: Re: Future Version Suggestions / Requests
Post by: Allocator on November 15, 2009, 08:24:35 AM
OK, so why not take a screen shot of your full polar diagram for reference, then re-set it each day to compare with the saved screen shot?

You should remember that the polar diagram is only produced when you pick up an aircraft, so a polar diagram produced during the day is going to be very different to one produced overnight, so it's not necessarily a good indication of how your system is working.  Same will apply when you compare one day to another, as traffic will vary

hi all
I reset once a week after taking a screen shot this gives it time to settle down and I find gives a better picture of the system and its efficiency as allocator says flights vary so much a day to day shot would not tell you much may be a weekly is also to short all down to the location and what you want to see

Tnx for you input Allocator,

OK, I understand your point of view but I would rather not re-set my PD as that will always be an indication of what my maximum reception is as an entirety for the system since I started ARB. The 2nd Polar Diagram would be just an indication of what my reception is on any particular day.

Yes I undestand about the PD being created only when an aircraft is picked up so the daily PD will be different to the full PD.

The reason for me asking is that today my reception was cut in half as I was only picking up aircraft half the distance of what I am used to. I ended up doing a complete recheck of all the wiring, connectors, pre-amp etc which as you will appreciate took some time to do. So a 2nd PD would have helped me as an indication if the system was not receiving to its maximum range or not.

I hope I have explained myself better in this reply.

Cheers,

If I remember it correct: the Polar Diagramm is stored in the "D0012.dat" file. So, by making backups of that file, you should be able to keep a record of different Polar Diagramms as required.

And just having dad a quick look at D0012.dat, it looks nice and simple :-)

There are 360 numbers - each of which looks like the range for that radial 0 to 360

Hi All,

Been thinking about the mapping issue and would like to know if ARB could look into providing something better when it comes to the standard maps available. I believe that they would go some significant way to improving the visual interface of their package if they dedicated some funds to provifding better mapping.

I note on the forum that there are many discussions about outline files etc and I am sure ARB could link with Google Earth to provide a good quality continental outline as a start. I know ARB-3D is on its way and that uses Google Earth but I am more interested in the 2D version with good quality map layers to view.

I further believe that the quality of the Google Terrain maps would be fantastic as a topographic type background and again would improve the visual aesthetics of the package.

Just my 2c worth.

Cheers,

Airnav can put in MyLog> Grids> Quick Filter also search by callsign?

It was a real asset to us.

Thanks

I would like to right click my mouse on a aircraft on screen and a option to add to a seen logbook to say ive seen that plane. A seen logbook will be a personal log of what aircraft ive seen. Also this logbook will also allow you to enter previous logs that you have gathered over the years. A calender can be opened on the screen allowing you to open any date and manually add paper logs gathered over the years.A total aviation package as i know many users used their airnav out and about spotting. This would be a first and everyone on here would love that. I can tell you your sales would go threw the roof.

It would not be possible for a new version of RB by the possibility of a different logo for a specific plane, as well as the SBS? Type in the case of C-160 from GAF.

We often want to distinguish the cargo aircraft and the passenger is not possible, so seeing the photos.

Hi Airnav, how about the option of an easily customisable navdata base so we can add/delete airports, VOR's, NDB's and reporting points. I appreciate most navaids don't change for decades but reporting points do get frequently get added to or removed and also I've noticed in the UK at least, there are numerous disused airfields just cluttering the display and can we please have an option to REMOVE runway extended centrelines from the display too!

Would enjoy being able to display radar full screen but have one line of data above this window (interface) of the data for the flight of current interest.  In other words, have the interface data window to show while using full screen radar but with just small one horizontal line so that can see details of one specific flight.

A suggestion, particularly for Vista and Windows 7, is to allow the files that are regularly changed while ANRB is running, databases, photos etc, to be stored in the user's directory rather than in the ANRB program location.

Virgin copies of the databases , photos etc. could be kept in the program location (in a  sub-directory) so that if a new user runs ANRB they could be copied to the appropriate user location.

This would do away with the need to install ANRB to it's own directory tree when using Vista or Windows 7 where the virtual store comes into play.

Wish List for future AirNav  * FTP *

FTP frequency adjustable  *

a editable part of the FTP image to have macros
@macros@  total craft on screen, my flights total, network total,
number of filter craft + your own text

Option to fix size of FTP image, its a real pain after setting up
a page and you move the AirNav page size then the uploaded image
changes size.

I would like to see any app that enables Milair tracking as per Plane Plotter ?

Not possible without accurate timestamping of the received messages.

[/quote]

Not that accurate but:  If you know the altitude and 2 or 3 others were detecting the aircraft you could make a good guess at location.  lf that was available it would worth paying for the network

Hello,

I for one would like to see a Selcal field in Database Explorer and in the
Mylog screen. It's the only peace of data along with the Mode S, Registration
etc. relative to a Airframe that is missing in the Radarbox databases.

And Radarbox remembering the size of the Mylog window would also be nice,
now I have to resize to include the comment field after every restart....

Thx,

Marinus.

Hi All,

My suggestion relates to the FTP component of ANRB.

I see that when I FTP, the image that is sent is the same size as the window I have on the software programme interface. If I happen to change the size of the radar window on my screen then that new size image is sent via FTP.

Is there no way to set a specific image size that is independant of the sofwatre radar image on your screen? In other words, one would need an additional option under FTP to say Image Width = 1024 pixels. The height would then be automatically calculated to give a clear image.

The reason why I would like this option is to produce a fixed size FTP image that is available to be viewed externally. I can then play around with the software interface to my hearts content without the FTP image always changing.

I hope what I have said makes sense. If not, let me know and I will elaborate further.

Cheers,

1. Main Program:

<deep breath>
a. Undockable windows & proper multi-monitor awareness for the app.
I have 2 x 19" monitors and really need to put the Virtual Radar Screen on one monitor and the whole Interface with MyFlights, Alerts etc. on the other monitor.
<deep sigh>

2. Play Recorded File:

a. Option to speed up or scan file rather than watch it in ‘real time’

b. Maybe a MediaPlayer type interface/progress bar that can be dragged to scrub through the timeline?

c. Possibly some kind of Task Scheduler to set it to Start/Stop recording at a certain time. Good for recording your own flights when you have to be at the airport and not at your PC!

d. Recording in progress indicator.

3. Preferences:

a. Grid Visible Columns – option to change display order

4. My Flights Window:

a. Highlight the selected or alternate rows like an Excel spreadsheet?

5. Editing Aircraft:

a. Why oh why do you limit editing to one cell at a time? And then click elsewhere just to be able to save it. Painful. SBS-1 for example opens up the whole aircraft record card so all changes can be made easily

6. Reporter:

a. Why on earth are the only choices Today & Yesterday? Needs a calendar or some other way to choose also

b. Yesterday should mean Yesterday. Not Yesterday minus Today so far!

7. FTP:

a. Add configurable ftp upload time

b. Add enhanced information such as; Number of Flights Tracked etc. using $webtags or similar

c. Option to specify screenshot size to prevent website being thrown out when RB screen is resized!

8. Weather:

a. Function works well with 3 choices but would it be possible to have it display in colourful, icon form such as that with other plug-in weather add-ons or the SBS-1 bolt on Metar Viewer?
See http://www.kinetic-avionics.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4423

9. Vastly expanded MyAlerts list to include;

a. Option to give description of Mode-S or Registration to identify at a glance what your own Alerts are for?

b. Send to SMS Text option. If sat outside in the garden it would be nice to know what the plane is that is flying overhead at that moment not run upstairs or wait until later when back at PC to read email.

c. Option to format own email for using 3rd party Email to SMS services that may be limited to 160 characters?

d. Different actions for different type of alerts;

e. Different sound assigned for different types of alert

f. Different email address for certain alerts etc.

g. Option to click on Notification Message Box or Alert Log to select Alert in My Flights list and/or Map?

h. Keep a log of Alerts to browse at any time?

i. Identify Alerted flight in different colour/blinking etc.

j. Notification box to behave properly. I want it to alert me by popping open but when I close it I do not want it to jump to the RadarBox screen, put it in focus and make it active. If I do want to jump to the RB screen I should be able to do so by clicking anywhere else in the box. A close gadget should be a close gadget not a close and lets make the RB screen active gadget IMHO!

10. Linear Map Zooming. Currently one click out = 2 clicks in...

11. Cut out dependency on AirNav Server for sending Alerts, Reports etc. and be able to specify own choice of SMTP Server and choose the Sender name.

12. Please stop the busy/sleepy pointer appearing when navigating through Menus as it is really, really annoying and prevents me from selecting menu items properly!

13. Scanner interface and/or better integration of ACARS in RadarBox

14. PP MLAT data compatible

15. Prevent MyFLights from jumping around when you are trying to search or watch for something

16. Keep selected flight selected in MyFlights not have RB suddenly decide to reorganise the list and make you search for it again!

17. Ability to search in Reporter/MyLog by using keyboard keys. Instead of using the mouse to scroll down you should be able to use the keys to selectively narrow your choice like most other programs do.

18. One click option to only display the selected flight on the map quickly.

19. Ability to right-click on the aircraft legend and have a pop-up menu to display other facts etc.

20. Ability to save different home coordinates & program setup selectable by a button ala PlanePlotter A, B, C,D

I'll stop at twenty as that seems enough to think about for now...some of these are from a list I put together nearly 2 years ago so I apologise if any of them have been added/fixed.

I have just waded through 17 pages of suggestions to get here but most of these can be found in a previous post from me on page 2 of this thread dated June 2008!

http://www.airnavsystems.com/forum/index.php?topic=2885.msg25713#msg25713

Thanks for listening...I obviously have far too much time on my hands this week!

Kind regards,

Airnav know I will add this one.

Regular monthly downloadable Navdata update .exe files.  These would not change the data in your own modified Navdata if the aircraft remains current, but would add new current codes/tie-ups not contained in your own Navdata. Most importantly it would delete from your Navdata any codes which had been deregistered/WFU/Stored/Scrapped.

Have been an ANRB user since last October and a 3D user for the last 24 hours.

Am also a dual monitor user, so my top three on my wishlist for the future are:

1) 'Undockable' windows - to drag a 2D view back onto my laptop whilst watching 3D and MyFlights etc on 22" monitor

2) One click option to take a 3D screen copy

3) More reliable method of updating underlying aircraft database

Just my wishlist - more than happy with what ANRB 3D offers at present!

I agree. When I click in the box, I'd not only like the Radarbox  screen to come up, but I'd like the alert aircraft to automatically be highlighted on the screen.
It's a pain to get an alert and then have to visually scan everything on the screen to find it.

Some more suggestions for controls which will be particularly useful while in full-screen map view - we already have Ctrl-D for satellite image download, so how about:

Ctrl-2 - split 2D/3D view
Ctrl-3 - 3D view

Hi

I think it would be great if Radarbox could make a receiver like one of those 10 inch netbook size machines where we could get a receiver and screen incorporated for taking in the car rather than hassle with laptops etc and it would mean you could leave the normal one running at home without it spoiling your polar diagram etc and it could keep generating its own log without interruptions.

Anybody else think this would be viable?

I don't think this has been mentioned before, but I find it very frustrating that when viewing MyLog, if the current filter produces no hits, the lower panel - Flights for Selected Aircraft - still shows the flights from the previous filter.

A fair comment methinks. If Airnav persist in making the default to share data, then at least they could rename the check box to "Make my data available for Airnav to profit from and give me nothing in return" or such like.  Additionally it may be prudent on start-up for a window to state  "I accept I am potentially committing a crime by using this software" or such like which must be okayed before the application runs ?

Nothing constructive then eh?

Most users seem to be able to cope with this really "difficult" action of simply turning it off if they are in any way upset or concerned either about profit making or committing a criminal offence.

It's not difficult is it.

Face it, it's not going to get changed for quite obvious reasons.

Maybe we could come up with something new for a change rather than banging heads against the same brick wall?

Look forward to reading the same criticism in say two months time?

I agree, this one looks like it will run and run.  It's hard to see the two opposing viewpoints being reconciled, but perhaps I might suggest a compromise that would bring the factions at least a bit closer together ?

Nobody disputes that sharing data is definitely illegal in some countries, indeed AirNav explicitly acknowledge that with a warning message in the Preferences dialog.

Equally, anyone being prosecuted for doing so who argued that the software defaulted to switching sharing on at startup and he/she forgot to untick the box, wouldn't have much of a legal leg to stand on.

And clearly AirNav would not want themselves to be seen as profiting from its users' illegal activity, that's not good for business.

However we all know that potentially giving every user the choice to opt-out of sharing permanently as a default would destroy their business model.

So, how about the following:

On startup, RadarBox reads the user's home location (which it does at the moment anyway).

If that location is in a country where the sharing flight data is suspected to be illegal, then sharing defaults to off, although the user has the option to switch it on, at their own risk, subject to the current warning message.

On the other hand, if the home location is in a country which allows flight data sharing, then RadarBox behaves as at present, with sharing on by default.

OK, so it's not perfect, but it absolves AirNav from any complicity in illegal activity, or accusations that they are profiting from such, and gives the user an assurance that they aren't going to end up in jail simply as a result of forgetfulness.

That would seems to me to be a suitable compromise between AirNav's commercial interests and the legitimate concerns of users about staying on the right side of the law.

same as air-band scanners no difference

You're welcome to your opinion, Pat, but I don't think that's a valid comparison.

Running your RadarBox in private and viewing on your PC the traffic that your box is picking up, is certainly comparable to listening to the same traffic on your scanner.

But uploading shared RadarBox data to the server is more akin to publishing the information that you're picking up on airband, or even posting a live ATC feed on the Net (and we both know that's a no-no in some countries, such as the UK).

I'm sure that, like me, you enjoy looking at network traffic on your RadarBox.

And I'm equally sure that you, like me, don't want anyone to go to jail for providing the data that you're looking at, if doing that it is against the law in the country they live in.

Our official position is very simple: nothing will be changed regarding sharing options.
All is very clear and users are free to opt-out from sharing data. The default opt-in exists for the benefit of all users and it is one of the reasons why RadarBox network is by far the biggest in terms of users and areas covered.

This topic has been discussed in depth in the past and there is no reason to bring it up again and again.
There is forum on the web for permanent criticism and negative posts so please respect our users by bringing interesting and positive information to our forum.

Would what is being discussed put forums like the mode_s group into illegal realms also as there are plenty of people posting what they pick up on a daily basis.

Know the law in the country you live in and abide by it, or be prepared to deal with any consequences.

For me I will use my box and provide the info for networking and if someone comes knocking on my door, I will deal with it.  However i think the authorities have bigger fishes to fry here in the UK.

Fine - if you don't think my suggestion of defaulting the share option based on a user's location is reasonable, practicable and equitable, and ultimately in your own best interests too, then so be it.

I tought sharing is give something for free en get something for free, not give something for free and get something after paying money!

I don't think the use of sarcasm was entirely essential in your post, though that's your choice of course. Nobody is sugesting the action required to stop sharing is "difficult" - and I am puzzled as to why you used speech marks around the word "difficult". Perhaps you should re-read my original post.

The title of this thread is "Future Version Suggestions/Requests". My post was a suggestion, nothing more, nothing less. Simple really. I'm sorry it was deemed as "nothing constructive" in your opinion.

Hi all, I agree, an RNRB user should have to "opt-in" to share, not out.

I would suggest AN should hold a poll, and act accordingly on the result..............

Hi

I would like to see the following

a) Up/Down arrows for climb/descent
b) The ability to decide what is displayed in the aircraft label e.g. if I don't want to see the route info, I can turn it off

snowman, you can already turn on and off the columns, go the preferences/generaland tick ot untich the boxes in Grid Visible Columns

You are right - from my perspective (being ex ATC) the closer I can get to a 'real' radar picture the better and being able to configure the label display would be a big step forward

It might be a good idea for the software to send an "I'm online and sharing data" message to the AirNav servers when there aren't any ADS-B aircraft to report.

That would give a better idea of who is actually online even during quiet periods, and it would make the user map look more encouraging to potential new users (and existing ones).

It might be there but it will take too long to go through 20 pages of suggestions.
There should be two NavData databases. The Master and your personal one. The Master comes from AirNav and when we get an update it can just be overwritten by the new one. Your personal database is for aircraft you add.
Why two? That will solve the issue where you might have local issues, eg aircraft that fly around locally with the wrong mode S, etc. Also you might have just recently added and aircraft and then an update comes and overwrites that one. The system will look at the local database first and if the Mode S is not there - pull it from the master for display. Of course there will be nice little utilities that allow you to compare the two and make send info to AirNav if it is missing on the master , delete duplicates off the local, etc.

It would not be possible for the option of moving menu bars in the software radarbox? in order to gain more space for the map and list of flights?

It is possible a future version (preferably at the next) appear which is red in the image attached?

Aircraft that are not in the database is possible to know which aircraft is only with the squawk code.

Can answer whether it is possible? please?!

I would like the facility to playback recordings at an accelerated rate so I can quickly scan planes that passed near my location throughout the day while I was away and then switch back to live realtime tracking.

This would be an excellent idea.

A rewind and go forward. Please add this to the next version.

But also about the possibility of watching what was recorded but keeping what is happening (LIVE) behind.

My personal wish list:

Rotatable maps to allow alignment with view out of my window.
Dual screen spreding , map on one interface on other.
Ability to resize sections of the interface & if necessary move bits around.
Fade away scroll bars, they disappear after a set period & activated by clicking on screen.
Ability to resize colums, or at least an autofit option.
A working option to save the screen set up on exit.

I love my Radarbox, but would marry it if these issues were ironed out.

Mine is a fairly simple one - the ability to accept or reject updates from the network. Not like the current all or nothing ability.

Could even be the creation of a temp file with all the updates and you could select a yes or no and then run an update routine

Mine is exceptionally simple.  A fully bug free version 3.13 and 4.03 with up to date silhouettes, flags, Navdata, D008.dat and GE Models for every type currently picked up ADS-B on the network.

Preferably with the ability for new buyers of the system to get these installed on first start up of their brand new machines.

I have my ADU database and Airnav linked so that I can use ADU to regularly update the airnav database, this also adds 'seen' into the comments column of 'My Log' for all that I have seen as logged in ADU.  Can the an additional column be added into the main grid next to the map screen for thi8s purpose.

Hi Airnav

I hope the equator bugs and aircraft dropping off the screen bugs are fixed with the new release.

It would be great if there was a way to export data from an Access database into db3 format that radarbox uses.  That way one can update data much quicker than one cell at a time.  I guess the new aircraft database is a improvement as long as there are regular releases.

Cheers

Airnav

This was discussed on a separate post but i did not want it to get lost when you do updates.

It relates to Alerts.
a) If an alert occurs for a specific aircraft and then another other detection of that same aircraft occurs during the day no alert occurs.

Possible solution:- Allow a selective timeout so the user decides how long before a second alert can occur with a minimum set so as not to get multiple alerts due to aircaft going behind obstructions.

b) The Alert log displays only filght ID and ModeS.

Possible solution:- Add time of alert.

Thanks

Another addition to the long requests list about alerts - could we have an alert that happens when we get returns from within a specified distance of a specified airport or lat/long apart from home?

That way we can get alerts when a particular location comes up on the network.

Would it be possible to do something about the fact that everytime I rub my bare feet on the carpet of my room in the Hilton Luxembourg with my finger on the mousepad of my laptop, the hardware connected light turns from green to red and I have to unplug the box and replug in order for it to start receiving? Or would it be easier to ask the Hilton to change the bloody carpet?? :)
Actually, is this static build-up a problem to the box in any way?

Hi All,

I use the FTP section quite a lot and agree with all previous suggestions. However, I would like to make the following suggestion:

Is it possible that a separate predefined screenshot view can be uploaded instead of the actual screenshot that is shown on your RadarBox programme screen?

What I mean by this is that the FTP will only upload whatever view you have on your screen at present. So if you zoom in, that new view will be uploaded and so on. This can be quite irritating for other people who may be viewing your FTP image to see it constantly changing whilst you are working on your RadarBox programme screen.

I hope I have made sense with this explanation.

Cheers,

I do not know if this has been requested or not, but here goes.

But when we put in fullscreen can put the list of aircraft carrying the F9, but it is not possible to remove the list.

Now I saw in AirNav Live Flight Tracker 8 is possible.

Please include this functionality in the next version of RB.

Is there anyway to make the font size smaller on the custom legend? If there isn`t could it be arranged, or the size altered with the zoom ratio for a future update please.  I find the map gets a bit crowded sometimes.

Would a show / hide tick box be possible?

Dave - there is a show/hide button - on the Map menu - just over half-way down.

Hi Rod, I use that, I was thinking a show / hide on the preferences/radarBox list for the indivual locations. That would mean you could list all the locations that you want and choose which ones to show, rather than having a different custom map for every situation.
Thanks,  Dave.
