Title: My Log Help !!
Post by: CAM on October 21, 2007, 04:03:03 PM
Hello,

I have recently bought RB and I am chuffed with the performance so far, the only problem I have is that "My Log" doesnt do what I expect. I have aircraft that are logged before I bought the unit & when I close RB it defaults back to these aircraft in the log.

Am I missing something or is this not what the log does.

Yours confused ????

Christian

Christian,

This is a bug with V1.3 which should be fixed in the next version.

You can generate a report for Today's traffic and save it to file before you close down RadarBox.  It's not a fix, but it might help until the next version is released.

Hi to all friends
I have read several posts for the log function and I have a brainless question to RB friends here. For what reason or use the log is so important? I miss something? As allocator says I save the daily flights but for nothing I believe, because never I use it for comparison or anything else. Just to fill my HD with data. I try to find a good reason for keeping my saved logs but I do not have any good idea why it will be supposed I keep this on my HD. If has anyone some ideas for what reason this log is useful please post your thoughts. This not means the log function is useless on RB but I think this is not something important. This is my opinion of course.

Thanks for reading
Regards
Chris

Chris,

Although I don't keep serious aircraft records, I know that a lot of people do.  However, I do like to see which aircraft I have picked up, especially when I am not watching the RB screen. I like to follow military aircraft, even though I can't see these on the screen.  My log should be able to tell me which aircraft I have seen in the past and which ones today.  Also, I'm currently interested in following the new A380 aircraft.  With a good database (log), I should be able to see when I have picked these aircraft up, how many times I have "seen" them and when a new aircraft appears.

Without a good database, RB is an interesting thing to look at - with a good database, RB becomes a useful tool to support a very interesting hobby.

I hope that this helps.  I'm sure that there will be others who will reply to this to tell you just how they use their logs.

All the best

My idea of the log, is as Allocator says to record the aircraft that I have picked up and the number of times. A friend of mine has Kinetic SBS and has this function and has recorded a large number of aircraft. I am slightly disapointed that RB does not have this functionality.

Also agree with the tracking of the A380, that is a must !!!!

I agree with Allocator, I use my log (in SBS1) to see what aircraft over time I have picked up - and in the last year that has been 13,500 airframes. I can also tell how many of a particular type I have seen, and how many times each particular airframe. I down load the SBS1 dtata regularly to Microsoft Access for both the aircraft and flights and re-link them in Access. It is a very larg file but it allows me to do various analysis of the data. Like Allocator I am more interested in military and can say the my SBS1 has seen 140 plus of the total fleet of C17A Globemaster III aircraft - which is not bad if you are into that sort of thing. This for me is what the hobby is all about, and what the database in Radar Box should be capable of doing, hopefully before too long

Regards

Mike

Hi again friends
Ok Allocator I copy that. All that you describe friends here sounds well to me. Question (for all): If Mylog works well (saves the records) the Reporter is useless or not? I’m confused with these two types. Example: I leave my computer opened when I’m not in my house. In my return I have (if I’m connected to network 1500 plus recordings) in my log. If I’m not connected to the network I have about 100 per hour. Is this too much recordings for reloading and what may happen if every time I go to reopen the program and Mylog loads all data from past days? Confused screen reading? If the Reporter has an option like (Auto save) every 1 or 2 or x.. Hours and a good sorting system I suppose that they may cover any need? A good choice is a daily system and a total recording system for secondary or one system for all? I think the system as they are is ok except the missing sorting option on Reporter. My opinion again of course :-)
