The date everyone was waiting for is finally arriving.
After hundreds of programming hours V3.0 final compilation is being sent today to our beta testing team. This marks one more milestone on the successful RadarBox project which has been, just one month ago, the first ADS-B receiver is space.
Upgrade to V3.0 is totally free.
RadarBox is the only receiver with an integrated worldwide ADS-B network and with a huge set of features inside a single application without the need of installing 3rd party addons. AirNav RadarBox 2009 - V3.00 is by far the most complete, sophisticated, reliable and accurate ADS-B decoding software ever released.
As usual work never stops at AirNav Systems. We are already developing the brand new "AirNav FlightWatch" application to be released later this year. This will be focused on the professional market but with an enthusiast version also available. It is the only software able to track flights using an worldwide data source network: FAA Radar System, ADS-B, RadarBox Unit, ACARS and Flight Plan information.
Note: AirNav Systems renamed this new version to V3.00 to reflect the considerable amount of changes being released.
Official full list of suggestions/improvements:
- 20% more flight IDs received: decoding of more mode-s protocol frames;
- Tracking of aircraft sending ADS-B information on ground;
- Possibility of writing custom labels on map;
- Optional retrieval of flight information data from online database;
- Flights without callsign information added to MyLog;
- New/Updated AIRAC cycle: more than 100 thousand updated aviation database (airport, runway, VOR, NDB);
- Ability to zoom in closer. Hi-Res airport outlines / track aircraft in taxiways;
- Possibility of auto populating aircraft information without downloading photos;
- Improved Algorithm for the transition of network flights to live (and live to network);
- Corrected problem with Slow Menus on certain machines;
- 1698 Airline Logos (many of them reviewed);
- 404 Country/Military Flags;
- UK/Ireland Time on status bar now shown correctly;
- Choose to show/hide Home position on map;
- Alerts/Reports email reports now sent from central server;
- Improve user awareness of incompatibility with AVG Anti-Virus (easy to add exception);
- More application data being worked inside threads: application runs faster;
- Preferences box now fits different screen resolutions;
- FTP Upload status information on status panel;
- "Purple rain/invalid positions" problem corrected;
- Improved Logo decoding routine: fully compatible with ICAO, IATA, Military and private jet flight codes;
- Option to show/hide Home Legend
- Registration/multiple alerts now working correctly;
- Weather List clearing problem corrected;
- Aviation Signs in Menu status updated;
- Email Alerts at consecutive days problem corrected;
- Duplicates in the Reporter bug corrected;
- Remember of Last Color Used;
- Up/Down arrows to show Vertical Rate on maps;
Unlike our previous versions, V3.00 will be released as a public beta, where users will be able to test and report to us any suggestion/problem.
To all the team involved, especially the dedicated beta-testers a huge thank you!

What has happen to public version 2.10.....
I guess we wont get 2.10 public version after all now....
Some users been waiting for 2.10 public version for a long time. Now they wont get to try the 2.10 public version :-(
I would think the changing version numbers "2.10" to "3.0" didn't come up over night.
I guess they have to go straight to public version 3.0 now.... :-)

I don't see if this issue been fixed in the above list.
1.) Reporter e-mail issue
It's been since February and no word from AirNav Support about this bug. If it will be fixed or not on that topic.
Where you don't have to restart the software/computer to have it sent the 2nd day and after.....
http://www.airnavsystems.com/forum/index.php?topic=1720.30
Edit: After Reading the reply.. Thanks for fixing this bug!
2.) Another thing I don't see fixed in the above list.
Having the SHARING STAY TURNED OFF (UnClicked) After the AirNav RadarBox software restarts. (No reason to have sharing 'on' when on a cruiseship or ships/boats.)
But all the other stuff/Improvements is very neat! Keep up the great work AirNav. <:-)
-Brian
-
Straight to V3.00 now.
Regarding the email issue mentioned it is corrected (just added it to the list above).
Note that we are releasing V3.00 as a public beta so we have plenty of time for further improvements (not major ones) before a final released.
-
Thanks to all! Good work airnav!!
-
Straight to V3.00 now.
So ... instead of a countdown to 2.10 *release* we now have a countdown to when the beta for 3.0 comes out?
Hmmm.
Ok, whatever. What I really want to know is when can I reliably stop running 2.0?
-
You can't please some people :-)
-
Methinks some may have misunderstood the AirNav post...
V2.10 has become v3.0 (similar to last time when v1.6 was released as v2.0 - just a name change) but will still be available as a Public Beta so you will all be able to stop running v2.0 and use v3 very soon now.
This means the long awaited update that we have been patiently (and not so patiently) waiting for will be coming to a PC near you very soon - albeit in Public Beta - but that's what we want isn't it?
Simple really...or have I misunderstood?
Although the update list has lots of fixes & optimisations (important) there are not a huge number of ground-breaking features (not so important) by the looks of it.
Guess I will have to wait longer for those undockable windows then AirNav? ;^)

Just like on this blog. Change the story and be like taking a cruise ship to a port. and said you visited that country :-) Then get back on the ship fast in the nice room/food!

Sorry, lost on me Brian.
Maybe I misunderstood you post here and one on another thread on this forum. Are you disappointed that V3 is about to be released, or are you just having a bit of fun.
Free upgrade, problems experienced by SOME users fixed, additional features as requested by users etc etc
Looks like a no brainer to me!
-
In support of Airnav they have been listening to users in the forum and working hard to ensure a stable platform. As a programmer myself I know a simple change seems easy but what effect does that have on everything else? Then everything has to be retested again.......
Thank you for listening Airnav!

ShipTrax has not been released yet has it? :-)

Allocator:
Just having fun :)
but I be glad when I don't have to restart the computer everyday to get the email reports sent from the software.
GlynH:
But RadarBox unit is always welcome on cruise ships :-)
I just love antennas on the balcony. GPS puck, RB antenna.
Just nice to see planes on the laptop out at sea on the cruise ship :)
(Just get cruise ship neighbors asking what those antennas you have!)
(For 2009 year. My RadarBox unit will have 3 cruises for this year.)
And yes... Sometime I visit come countrys and I feel like getting back to the ship ASAP in some ports :)
-
One thing for sure is when V3.0 is released we can expect a thread asking when V4.0 will be available ;-)
-
Why wait till the 3.0 is release....
AirNav Dev, You want to start a 4.0 topic When it's going be release within the next 5 years or so ;)
Just put a big date on it :)

Have I missed something, but what is the time scale of the release?

Have I missed something, but what is the time scale of the release?
After hundreds of programming hours V3.0 final compilation is being sent today to our beta testing team.
So, assuming it passes closed beta testing, it can't be long until it goes public.

Thanks tarbat
Just quick glanced at the post, busy doing the day job

You can show functionality of the program?

Cheers for the update Airnav V3 sounds cool so roll on the public release.
John
-
And so say all of us!!
-
Did I read somewhere that the + and - values for climb and descent had been replaced by corresponding up and down arrows? It's not evident in Tarbat's live displays.
DC
-
We have changed this one again back to +/- has we were having too many problems with some Windows font types.
-
why bother trying to add unecessary features, a +/- is fine, in any case you can colour code ascending/descending
-
You know, for what it's worth, that's a sad loss for the sake of a font.
I can't really see the need to change fonts, other than size. I seem to remember in NATS there was some discussion about this for our in-house radar replay software - we decided on a sans-serifed font (Verdana, I believe).
Is it really necessary to change fonts? I would have thought the benefit of the arrows far outweighed a gimmicky font change.
Just my honest opinion.
DC
-
I for one prefer +/- to arrows - much easier to see than the arrows, especially at smaller sizes, and I like the ability to choose fonts - I'm a Verdana man myself, but in previous discussions on the forum, there is a variety of opinions out there on fonts.
Rod
-
You can't please some people :-)
Have I heard this somewhere before?
-
I was so exited when I saw the arrows but now, it's just another update and corrections...
I was expecting the arrows but I have to give up and see again the +/- signs for another version...
-
You are right. There is a great responsibility in releasing a product for 3000+ users. If we aren't sure a feature works at 100% we can't release it. This feature will be released on a future version.
-
Do We Have ETA on the new version.

-
You can show functionality of the program?
I sometimes put screenshots up on http://www.flickr.com/photos/tarbat/ but there's not a lot to see in a static screenshot.

Tarbat
Thanks for at least trying to let us see what we are about to get
-
tarbat, the Radarbox aerial on top of your hoose needs realigned!

Sorry I'm not available, don't like heights!!

Hi Guys,
any date for V3.0 release?
thx.

-
How many ticks in this countdown to V3.0 public beta or full release? Testing a beta with a few people doesn't catch many bugs!
-
Confused
2.1 was very imminet to public beta. I thought 3 was later in the year. Does this mean v3 pub beta is imminent or it will be later in the year?
?????

2.1 has become V3.0. Coming soon.

Thanks Dudley
Anxious to get over the AV problem so I can use on my laptop when travelling.
Thanks

Regarding the AVG issue, is this directly connected to the long load up time?
Mine usually takes between 50 seconds and a minute to arrive to the log on screen, which isnt a mega problem but after hearing a Tornado or Hawk low flying over my house, its usually gone by the time the programe loads!
Incidently, I dont have AVG on my computer?
-
Mine usually takes between 50 seconds and a minute to arrive to the log on screen
Sounds about normal. Mine takes 50-60s to be fully up and running - ie. map/list appears, weather update happens, hardware connected, then local flights appear. That's using the /connect startup option. Cuuld take a bit longer if you have network flights active when you startup.
-
what about v2.10 ?
nothing more ?

Great news: if all continues as it is now (no more complains from beta testers) V3.0 Beta will be released tomorrow. :-)

Excellent news, looking forward to using the new features and hopefully the logs can be emailed without being blocked by my ISP.

I may have missed something , sorry if i have .. but how do i get V3.0 ?
regards Tony
-
V 2.10 is now V3.0 changed 2 days ago
-
And V3.0 was not yet released.
-
Looking forward to this if it does get released today :)
And I have had excellent and fast replies to all of the support queries I have sent to AirNav so keep the good work up!
-
This is all becoming a bit of a dog's dinner, chaps.
I still haven't had a Beta copy of anything, as promised.
Will it be 2.10 or 3.0 if I ever do? It all seems a bit piecemeal without an awful lot of forethought. How long has v2.10/v3.0 Beta been on the test bed? How many Beta testers are there, and how long have they been testing it? Do we get to see their collective thoughts? It all seems a tad cagey.
I seem to remember a similar set of circumstances when the last version was released. I do hope this new version won't be foisted on us without proper testing and review.
And no, I'm not having a go at Airnav, I'm just concerned that the whole issue seems a bit woolly to say the least.
DC
-
Not sure what you mean by cagey, when beta testers have been on the forum talking about what there using for about a month now and posting pictures.
-
looks like you where on the wrong forum Chris, your a wee bit behind times kid.

I may have missed something , sorry if i have .. but how do i get V3.0 ?

Hello ? ... anyone ?

It's on closed beta at the moment. Should be available on public beta soon - I'm sure Airnav will tell everyone how to access the public beta when it's ready.
-
Thanks Tarbat , thats fine
Didnt need the sarcasm radarspotter10 .
but thanks anyway

Great news: if all continues as it is now (no more complains from beta testers) V3.0 Beta will be released tomorrow. :-)
Wonder whether this'll be true :)
-
I don't now why AirNav cannot say yes or no at the start of everyday.
They said it could be today, but have they said anything-nope. They should just put everybody out of there misery. Its a long old day on here when you are waiting for something.
Come On AirNav - Is it going today
-
I can't take this silence. It's too long. And I can't wait for the update.
-
Yeah your right Andy...
I cant imagine there waiting for the USA staff to launch it, even though AirNav Development has been on quite a bit just recently...

I don't mean to set the cat amongst the pigeons here, but I feel this needs saying.
You ALL have a perfectly working piece of software, stop badgering the developers into an early release. I am involved in beta testing of SimSig (railway signalling simulation) and what the developers and I find over there most annoying is being badgered by forum members to release software before it is properly ready.
You will only have yourselves to blame in a weeks time with bug ridden software.
It'll be ready when it's ready!
-
Thank you for your comments Dazrah
AirNav Said - could be today - we only asked yes or no. You may a bit of working software - lucky you.
-
As mentioned, we said it would be today if we recieved no complaints from beta testers. We are still awaiting to hear back from all the testers.
When it is ready we will announce it and send an email to all forum users, so there is no need to keep asking us every hour :)

I don't meran to set the cat amongst the pigeons here , but I feel this needs saying.
You make an arrogant assumption that all of us have a perfectly working piece of software.
I was involved in beta testing of RadarBox way back last August and here I am nearly a year later no further forward so I stopped using my RB back then because of the problems I was suffering and only had my interest reignited when I saw news of a fixed version recently.
Having said that I do not badger AirNav to release early and it annoys me to read multiple posts clamouring for its release.
I agree it will be ready when it's ready!
But do not make the incorrect assumption that it is a perfectly working piece of software - if you beta test you will know no software is pertfect.

Do I take it this new version will be Vista 64 friendly ?? I have to use an old laptop to run AirNav....Not what I wanted to do !!
-
Doesn't v2.0 work okay on Vista 64? With a workaround - http://www.airnavsystems.com/forum/index.php?topic=1579.msg12370#msg12370
-
I have tried various routes and struggle....I have given up !!!

I have tried various routes and struggle....I have given up !!!
Have you tried the F8 on startup workaround?
-
I think i will do you guys a favour.
I reformatted my harddrive well over a month ago now, and been waiting for V2.10 (V3.0) before putting the software back on my computer, so I have been without the RB for that long.
I will now put it back on before V3.0 come's out. I bet soon as i do, they will release V3.0.
So say thank you when it happens - now putting it back on
-
Thanks, but I have tried the F8 and I have tried the other workarounds. I am no computer expert but I thought that I could follow these instructions but I cannot! I have recently put in a new hard drive so I am reluctant to start messing about especially of the new version promises Vista 64 compatability. Do we know if the new version is 64 compatable for certain ???
-
Quick note: we will be releasing V3.0 Beta in 1 hour.
