Title: Selcal codes
Post by: EK01 on March 18, 2009, 11:14:01 AM
Hi guys,

I have a listing of selcal codes and their functions. Some codes are listed as 'conspicuity codes'. Can somebody let me know what this means.

Cheers,

Ian

I think you mean Sqwark codes, not Selcal.
Selcall is selective Calling - Like a telephone number from a common Frequency for a specific Aircraft - Codes are Not unique worldwide but should be within each region.

Sqwark codes are transponder codes to identify an aircraft track - can show controller being worked - Scottish Mil, An Airfield etc.
Conspicuity codes can be used without specific allocation, on Takeoff etc   See NATS document  ENR 1.6.2

Thanks for that and, yes, it should have been squawk codes. Another senior moment !

Cheers.
