Title: Alerts
Post by: E14 on March 12, 2009, 02:38:47 PM
Am I amissing something here.

Saw JAL421 on the network over the North sea.
Put JAL421 into the Flight Id box within alerts and ticked box.
Had play a sound, show a notification and email.
Came in over clacton airspace and appeared on My Flights but no alert at all.

If however I tick range "any flight within 100miles of my location" I get loads of alerts as I would expect.

I also tried this morning using Registration and nothing at all.

Not sure about this, but if you've already had the alert for the aircraft from the network, I don't think I would expect another alert when it transitions to MyFlights. Seems to me that in this case, Alerts are behaving the way they should.

Other ideas welcome!

Hi Rod
No I just saw it on the network before it reached my area. No alert was setup for it when it was being seen on the network data. I only wanted to be alerted when it came into "my flights" airspace.
cheers
James

Sorry James, I misunderstood you.

I assume that you had "Acitvate Alerts for Network Flights" unchecked.

I've got a feeling that this may be a known bug in the same mode as the Routes updating problem - aircraft coming off the network into MyFlights not being processed properly. As such, it may be being sorted out for the next software release.

Would AirNav like to comment?

Rod

The known bug with the alerts is that if you enter registrations and also have lots of alerts setup which go off at the same time it seems to ignore them.

This is listed to be looked at and fixed in the next version.

hi Air NaV Support.

So if for example I see Flight BA701 on the network in Hong Kong  and know its coming to Heathrow it will not alert me even if I have BA701/701 in the flight Id box?
That apppears what is happening here

Those should work though please note, you need to enter BAW701 not BA701.
British Airways callsigns are BAW..

A couple of queries on ALerts:-
1. Could the entries in the Alert Log be timestamped?
2. Should each appearance of FlightID's such as NATO* be alerted, when they have disappeared from the Myflights display for a period in excess of a Quater of an Hour.      NATO23 - Luxembourg E3C in a Hold pattern....

How unique does a flight have to be to be plotted on the Alerts - Different Mode-S, if Identical FlightID's and Alerts on FlightID?
