Title: AirNav RadarBox 2007 - Version 1.2 (Patch Beta 2) Available for Download
Post by: AirNav Development on September 08, 2007, 01:22:12 AM
Good News.

The second beta for "AirNav RadarBox 2007" patch is available for download.
This addresses all the reports received from Patch 1 Beta 1 testers. You don't need to have the previously patch installed. We have named this version ANRB 1.2.

Detailed explanation:
In this correction we were specially concerned with the hardware disconnect issue. This involved the development of new drivers for the HW/SW connection and a complete rewrite of the HW/SW communication routines. We also worked on several new features like the new "Vertical Tracking View".

As before we now need your help for feedback and problem reporting / correction.

It is very important that you follow the instructions below. This beta should be used by experienced computer users only. It requires a little bit of knowledge to understand some steps. So if you are a computer "expert" wait a few more days for the final release. You are completely responsible for properly do the steps below including the firmware upgrade. The upgrade steps are not automated now.

1- Download Instructions:

a) Download the new Beta Patch from:
http://www.airnavsystems.com/download/anrb/anrbpatch12.zip

b) Extract all these files to your RadarBox root folder (usually "c:\Program Files\AirNav Systems\AirNav RadarBox 2007"). Overwrite the existing files.

c) First you need to do the driver update. These new drivers were developed by an external company and have some changes that prevent the Hardware disconnect issues.
They are located in "C:\Program Files\AirNav Systems\AirNav RadarBox 2007"
To update them:
 - Go to "Windows Control Panel", "System", "Hardware", "Device Manager";
 - Browse "Universal Serial Bus Controllers";
 - Double Click over "AirNav RadarBox";
 - Go to the "Driver" tab, click "Update Driver";
 - Answer "No, not this time";
 - Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)"
 - Select "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install";
 - Click "Have Disk";
 - Select the "C:\Program Files\AirNav Systems\AirNav RadarBox 2007\Drivers" folder;
 - Click Next and follow the specified instructions.

d) Now you need to update your firmware. We have developed a special application for this purpose. It is called "AirNav RadarBox Firmware Updater".
Run it at:
"C:\Program Files\AirNav Systems\AirNav RadarBox 2007\FirmwareUpdater.exe"

e) After the driver and firmware updates above are finished, run AirNav RadarBox as usually.

Welcome to Version 1.2!

Please reply to this forum with comments and suggestions and again.
THIS IS STILL A BETA, so expect to find some problems. We want to hear from you before releasing the final Patch.

I downloaded Patch Beta 2 and attempted to install as per your instructions.  There is no way I was able to update the driver.  I kept getting a message saying a file was missing.  I couldn't even get the original drivers to reload.  After six unsuccessful attempts to upgrade the drivers or roll-back to the original drivers I had to do a complete system restore to get back to square one.  I'm sure I followed your installation instructions precisely as laid out.  Is it correct that the extraction of the downloaded zip file was to create a sub folder named ANRBPatch12 in the AirNav RadarBox 2007 folder or was it just supposed to overwrite other files already there?   Please review the instructions and double check.  It may have been my own error.

IMPORTANT: Update all your old files in the AirNav directory before installing the new beta! See below.

Hello,

I followed your steps as described, but it didn't work.

I have two problems:

I copied the new beta files in the AirNav Directory. Then in Device Manager after choosing "update driver" I was not able to update the driver. Anyway I deinstalled the "AirNav Radarbox", plugged the USB cable off and did a reboot. Then I replugged the USB-cable and after the following USB-installation dialog I was able to update the drivers.
Unfortunately the firmware updating after that hang (yes I had the new drivers installed, because the firmware updating with the old drivers would not start or not get the old firmware version number. With the new drivers it will communicate - at least a bit ;) ).
I tried to start the software, but it couldn't connect to the box.

Solution for me: I copied all the original files back in the directory. Then I deinstalled the "AirNav Radarbox" in the device manager as described above. I unplugged the USB-cable and did a reboot. Now again I installed the USB-drivers, but this time it were the "old" ones (from the backup of the original files) started the program and it worked. So the old is still working this way, but the new beta unfortunately not.

Happy Weekend,

Markus

Hi there. Can you confirm what operating system you have XP or Vista.  The reason I ask is the 2 other messages about failures to get the system running but none explain the operating system which could be ? a factor ?

Please note even though I asked for the new files to be placed in the airnav 2007 folder it actually put them in a subfolder patch 12 - which meant that unless you noticed this when going through the list of changes you are not actually updating to the new driver. If you are successful in changing the driver the system will tell you you need to reboot.

Hi all,

finally got it running on a second machine. Same OS though (Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 SP2). Be advised to make a backup of all the files before.

On the second PC (where AirNav was previously installed), I

1. removed the  software
1a. removed all the files in the AirNav directory which were not removed by the uninstall routine
2. removed the "AirNav Radarbox" device in the device manager
3. unplugged the RB USB cable
4. restarted the PC
5. installed the software from the original CD
6. copied the new beta files into the AirNav Directory
7. plugged in the USB RB cable
8. installed the drivers
9. upgraded the firmware (mainly to control if the correct drivers are installed)
10. started the software and

nothing.

I gave it a try and removed the USB-cable and plugged it in again and

it works.

EDIT: I followed the instructions above to try installation on the previous PC where the beta fix failed. But I had problems with installing the drivers (installation hang, I canceled it, unplugged the USB cable and reinstalled the drivers, second time worked).

EDIT: It's now up for 3:10 h - the longest time ever ;) I like the Pan Map with active flight option very much - great work! The vertical tracking view is also a nice feature (now its time for a bigger screen). Unfortunately the photo download doesn't work.

Hi there,

Got the upgrade running and all installed. I note that the lights on the box actually start flashing as soon as you select AirNav Radarbox from the menu, rather than as before, after you click on start. However, having got the system installed and working - and I agree the vertical view is excellent my box has stopped three times, twice while I was trying to change settings (remove vertical view) and the third time while I was moving the mouse around on screen. The first two occurred after 20-30 seconds and the third time after about 60-70 seconds.............

Am watching screen on another PC to see what may be causing the shut downs. What
actually happens is the program shuts instantantaniouls but als restarts just as quick afterwards when using the system start. It also appears to hold the changes I made rather than dumping back to before the failure.
Is showing live data aat 06:00 UTC

UPDATE following the three glitches at the initial use of the update, my PC has now been running since 05:59 UTC (now 0706 UTC) without error.....
I intend leaving it on all day so ...Watch...this...space....

FURTHER UPDATE Knew it would happen - crashed at 07:21 and again at 07:40. Trying with single phot and will then try without photos

AirNav, Not sure whether it is anything, or even correct but can you tell me something. Does the system use a specific browser to contact airliners.net for the pictures?  If so which one.  The reason I ask is that I keep getting Windows Explorer open up while running Radabox, and always open at Airliners.Net, which is annoying as my default browzer is Firefox.  I have to keep closing Windows Explorer to avoid cluttering the desktop.  Could this be confusing radarbox and possibly cause the crashes. Note if it has to use a specific browser - can that be what the user wants?  i.e. do I have to use Windos Explorer (and removed Firefox as an option from my PC)

Beta12 installed OK, a couple of observations that I'll post later as I have to go out now.

However, photo download doesn't seem to be working at all at the moment whatever I have selected in the Preferences section.

Took dog for walk and came back still running (since 07:41 UTC) but believe it or not it closed itself at 09:11 UTC as I watched. Nothing appeared to happen it just closed back to my desktop....

I have loaded radarbox onto my main pc, copied all the files to the correct directory and checked that they were there. Went into the update drivers option and when I said I have a disc it only showed an INF file and not the expected SYS file. I rechecked the path (outside the driver progam) and it is there but it will not show in the upgrade driver boxes...... However, I ignored it and carried on with the rest of the upgrade (dont forget that you only need to upgrade the firmware on one machine as it is held on the radarbox itself) and opened radarbox and it all seems to be running OK. I also made sure I only have the one set of drivers for Radarbox - and I have those dated 07/08/07 so I think it is the correct set. Amyway as said, radarbox is running OK at moment. The only problem appears to be no photos being downloaded at present even though I have the "Only 1 photo" option selected - It was working earlier on my laptop.

Hi DaveG,

just unplug USB cable, plug in again and run the software. Maybe that helps.

Hi all,

The photo download feature should be disabled in this version. This is so we can confirm the stability of the software without that and rectify it in the meantime.

From the customers connected to the network I can see about  1/4 are trying the new patch which is good to see.

RoadRunner:

Can you send your elf file to us? I have been reading through your posts but bit confused. Also go into preferences and tell us your screen refresh time as well as your PC specs and average traffic.

DaveG:

Have you tried running the RadarBox software, what happens then?

DaveG,

I think that the window with the message:

Version:  1.01.0
Update Version: 1.01.2

means that the Firmware has been upgraded from 1.01.0 to 1.01.2 because mine did exactly the same.  It is a bit worrying because there is no "update successful" message, or even a "close" button, just the Windows "X" to shut the window.

AirNav, is there any way of telling what the version of the Firware is and if the update has been completed successfully?

Not in the Beta, this is all temporary untill the patch is released which will not require these steps to be done manually.

Hi All,

Have been running for more then a hour now. That didn't happen before!! Thanks Air Nav.

Now I have played a bit with the RB I noticed that when I change the colors of the labels of the planes on the screen the changes are lost after a restart of the program.

Good to hear, keep us updated. You need to save the label colours and then import them if you use the software again. In future version it will remember your last setting.

After one of the crashes this morning I completely uninstalled the files and started with a new sheet. Unfortunately I did not copy the ANRB.elf file so have not got one that shows this mornings troubles after the upgrade. My computer is a Toshiba Satellite Pro 100 with 786 RAM and 80gb hard drive. Wi-Fi connection to Virgin+ 20mb Broadband. Refresh rate is as per standard and was showing 60 -70 aircraft at a time. I have 30 sec timeout 60 sec hide. I have the latest upgrade all working now and have had the pc running with it for about 80 minutes now without a problem, however traffic levels with the pc in the lounge with me are 15-20 aircraft and peaking at 70messages a second.

Hi Roadrunner,

Ok thanks, the hardware issue seems to be resolved so any further issues will be based in the software and the elfs files can lead us to problem quickly to sort it out. The browser issue you mentioned before was rectified in 1.1 so that it would load up your default browser.

All:

If you find your CPU level is quite high or occasions where it might just crash to the desktop. Go into preferences and change your Screen Refresh Time to a higher number as you may have all the settings on and getting high level of traffic which your computer may have trouble keeping up with it. Changing the time will be barely noticeable to yourself however will save a lot of CPU time.

AirNav,

The Network Data Timout and Hide function does not appear to be working.  For testing I have set the Timout to 1 sec and Hide to 5 sec, but I still have approx 10 aircraft "hovering" around EGCC.  The aircraft are just not timing out so they will not hide.

I have been testing an alternative Beta provided by AB with the Network Timout/Hide function and this worked exceptionally well.  This has been reported to Support via AB in a separate email.

There may be a mixup in versions here across the network and what data they are sending. As customers using version 1 1.1, 1.2. I can see what you mean looking at Glasgow.

Hi there, a small problem here. Followed instructions, all appears OK. Hardware connected green. But no flights at all are be detected by the box (Yes, I ticked the process hardware flights ;) ). Now and then the left blue light blinks.

I did perform the firmware upgrade, but when I did I notices that it said:
Version 0.91.0
Update Version: 1.01.2

I will rerun this upgrade and leave it on that screen for half an hour before ticking the red X.

Please advice how I can verify that the hardware upgrade was (un)succesfull.

Software looks great!

doro,

I had the same problem with the hardware not being detected.

I had to shut down RB, unplug the box, plug it in again and then run RB.  The box was then detected and I got the Hardware flights.

Hi all,

8 hours up now with nearly no problems.

The only thing I observed is that I can't change the size of the Radarbox Interface window any more (the double-headed arrow is gone).

The system load of the ANRB.exe is sometimes a bit high (up to 70-80% but very volatile with a range of 2-90%) with 1000 ms refresh rate, but no crash until now (no other software running on laptop Pentium M 1,4 GHz, 512 MB RAM). I disabled the network function.

One more thing I have observed is that it's not possible to create a new filter.

After 2 hours of successfully running the program on the laptop in the lounge I have moved it back into my den and immediately picking up 55-60 aircraft. This has sent the rate up to 190-200 messages a second, even with the refresh rate turned down to 3000 but I will see how long it stays connected. Also when I moved the laptop  checked to see what the .elf file had logged for the most recent session but could not find a file with that suffix in the AirNav 2007 folder.

I did that, the connected sign is green, but no flights are detected by the box (right blue led). I'm close to the field and have good reception.

Initially I used the CD-ROM that came with the Box.

Now I followed the instructions for this Beta 1.2, With that I updated the drivers.

I could do a complete reinstall if you want me to.

Just to make sure that we're all starting from the same point - and not wanting to teach anybody to suck eggs :-)

- When the Beta12 patch is downloaded, it is a zip file.

 - If files are unzipped using the directory parths that come with the zip, they are put in a /ARNBPatch12 and /ARNBPatch12/Drivers directory

- You then need to copy the flies manually to the appropriate locations in the AirNav RadarBox 2007 directory structure

- The 4 files in the /ANRB/ directory need copying to the /AirNav RadarBox 2007 directory

ANRB.exe
FirmwareUpdater.exe
ftd2xx.dll
rb.dll

- The 7 files in the /ARNBPatch12/Drivers directory need copying to the /AirNav RadarBox 2007/Drivers directory

ftbusui.dll
ftd2xx.dll
ftd2.h
ftd2xx.lib
ftdibus.inf
ftdibus.sys
ftlang.dll

- Once you've done this, it's the new inf file in the /AirNav RadarBox 2007/Drivers directory that you brouse to when installing the new RB drivers.

Should the USB cable be disconnected before installing new drivers?

okay I give up now.

After first trying to update the drivers as per first post and nothing, then using reinstall from HH post still nothing.

Uninstalled RB & Drivers restarted PC

Tried to reinstall everything, now cant get the drivers to install, connecting USB it does not ask for drivers, and nothing is displayed in device drivers.

So...

Manually removed everything again and this time checked to see if anything was left in registry... yes the drivers!!!! that it could not find...
So removed them and did a restart...
(Yes I do know what I'm doing in there before anyone asks)

Reinstalled RB, copied new drivers into the RB folder correctly, plugged in USB and found it, or so I thought...  Drivers installed but still no hardware connection or drivers displayed in device manager.

So uninstalled everything again.
Installed CD version and tried that - nothing still no drivers being picked up
Copied over new driver files - same again...!

Now totally lost

What I have noticed is in an uninstall RB is not removing everything but more important, if you uninstall the drivers via FTDININ.exe it also does not remove ever file or registry line.

No idea what to try next, do not really want to do a fresh windows install (yet!)

What I did:
I have an other computer on which Airnav ran previously.
I connected the box, but the USB device was nog recognized.
I ran the complete upgrade procedure agian, as if I completely started from new.
This time the Firmware Upgrader said:
Version: 0.91.0
Update Version: 1.01.2
After a while (anyone? how long do I wait) I started AirNav.
Same result.
My idea is that the firmware (0.9x to 1.01.2) upgrade in the previous installation was unsuccessfull.

Hmmmm.......!

DaveG,

You did brouse to the new inf file in the Drivers directory rather than letting windows install the RB drivers automatically?

When I go to the Device Manager. I see:

Universal Serial Bus Controllers
AirNav RadarBox

and the Properties of the AirNav RadarBox driver are:

Driver: Primtec

Driver Date: 27/06/2007

Driver Version: 2.2.4.0

I installed the new driver with the RB "box" plugged in but without RB running.

When I ran RB, it didn't find the box - Loads of Network Flights, but no Hardware Flights.  I unplugged the box and plugged it in again, I didn't get the "found new hardware message", but when I ran RB again, all was well.

I know that this doesn't really help you, but I'm down to guessing now ........

Hi DaveG,

did you uninstall the drivers (while the box is connected) from the software deinstallation routine or from the device manager? I would recommend the latter. Then unplug, restart, plug in again and try to install the drivers.

As you mentioned there is some data left over in the registry, even after uninstalling software and drivers -  i.e. username & password, refresh time and some others I think.

Good Luck,

Markus

The first times yes, until I uninstalled everything RB & Drivers from Add/Remove programmes.

After that I tried CD reinstall and update of drivers, but nothing is displaying in Device Manager named AirNav RadarBox.  There is one called "USB Serial Converter" with Manufactor FDTI but that does not allow you to update as it says its not for your hardware.

HH
From Device Manager then uninstall file.

Think I'll just redo windows so I can get back to start :(

How did you update the drivers - automatic or "have disk"?

When you go to the Device Manager window and expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers, do you see:

Universal Serial Bus Controllers
AirNav RadarBox

If so, what do you see if you right click on the AirNav RadarBox entry and select Properties?

If you have unistalled the drivers for RadarBox. Restart the pc and then connect RadarBox.

Does Windows find some hardware connected?
What do the lights on the RadarBox do?

Have done that many times.  Only finds new hardware after I clearout the previous try's files and drivers then after restart and usb plugin it finds them.  But they do not install correct as I'm then back in a loop (see below)

BTW - When pluggin in USN cable I get green light and one flash of blue light thats it.

Allocator
Nope its not there, when plugging in USB cable (after cleaning out drivers and files and installing again) it asks for the drivers and installs, but they do not display then in Device Manager and there is no connection to the RB Box.

Never mind, I'm going to clear out that PC now and do a Windows Reinstall, it could do with it...  So will report back in a few hour on progress from CD to Update !

DaveG,

It does look like you are not actually installing the drivers at all.  You say that it asks for the drivers and installs, but where is it installing from I wonder?

Sorry if I'm asking the same question over and again, but I'd rather boil my head than do a Windows re-install :-)

Support, my assumption is that we both experience firmware problems.

Can you verify if the Hardware Updater supports an update from
Version: 0.91.0 to Version: 1.01.2 without the intermediate update that came with 1.1?

How long to wait before the hardware upgrade is completed.
How to verify if the hardware upgrade was succesfull.

Is anyone succesfull in going from the CD-ROM version directly to Beta 1.2 without 1.1 as intermediate step?

Ronald

Yep no keen on reinstalling windows, but its the only option I can see at this time.

Just tried once more...

Uninstalled everything, closed down restarted (RB unplugged at this time)

Installed from CD.
Copied New drivers into the RB directory, confirmed correct location.
Plugged in RB USB, asked for drivers.
Checked Device Manager (before installing drivers)
Its found "USB<-> Serial"
Directed it to the new drivers.  (ftdibus.inf)
Answer was:  "The specified location does not contain information about your hardware"  Cant go any further!!! with new drivers then.

Browsed to CD Drivers Directory (just to try)
pointed it to FTDIBUS.INF
it installed these okay!!!!!

Device manager now has "USB Serial Converter"

Runs RB

No Hardware Connection, which maybe no surprise since the drivers if correct are for the original version and not 1.2

Where is the Beer!!!!!

Hi Ronald,

in my case it didn't work with the first beta patch installed - I had to reinstall the software from CD, removed the drivers an then upgraded firmware & drivers.

DaveG:

Ok, so its found using the orginal drivers. Then what happens when you do the following:

To update them:
 - Go to "Windows Control Panel", "System", "Hardware", "Device Manager";
 - Browse "Universal Serial Bus Controllers";
 - Double Click over "AirNav RadarBox";
 - Go to the "Driver" tab, click "Update Driver";
 - Answer "No, not this time";
 - Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)"
 - Select "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install";
 - Click "Have Disk";
 - Select the "C:\Program Files\AirNav Systems\AirNav RadarBox 2007\Drivers" folder;
 - Click Next and follow the specified instructions.

Make sure it points to the new drivers and click on whatever it think RadarBox is now called.

Dave,

I had a similar problem. I completely uninstalled everything and with RB still attached to USB went to the drivers directory and deleted the driver from there. I also did a clean upo of the files not taken out by the uninstall programme. Loaded the original disc but did not connect RB. Copied the newt files into AirNav 2007, including the drivers. I checked that everything was there and noticed that in the drivers directory there is a sub directory of "out" in that were older copies of the driver and a few of the driver related files. I took a chance and deleted the .sys driver file from their as it was the old one. I then connected the RB to the USB port and went via the Control Panel to the Hardware/device manager etc and did what it said on the original B2 installation instructions. It could not find the driver .SYS file where it said it should be but I somehow, when I exited that program and rebooted had a connection to the system, traffic and all and can confirm both the new version and drivers are installed. The PC has now been running since approx 14:30 and no glitches so far - he says with fingers and legs crossed.
It seems rather ironic to me that a system that is so easy to set up and use initially can be so difficult to update using Airnavs instructions - and I don't believe they can use the Beta version case as an excuse. Need to try harder.

It could not find the driver .SYS file where it said it should be

The FTDIBUS.sys file is one of the new files downloaded with the upgrade.  It is one of the files that should be copied to the AirNav RadarBox 2007/Drivers directory.

During the driver upgrade, using "have disk", Windows first aks where the FTDIBUS.inf file is, it then asks where the FTDIBUS.sys file is.

You need both of these files to install the driver.  I've just reinstalled the driver and it installs without any problem.

Negative

1/8/2007 28/8/2007

3.) What is the driver version and date in your Device Manager?

2.0.0.0 19/5/2006

I succeeded in running the 1.1 hardware upgrade and after that performed the 1.2 one. Still no right led blinking.

1.  All folders correct.  (files correct as per Allocator image also)
2.  ftd2xx.dll   Created: 8 Sept 2007 18:51  Modified 1 Aug 2007   Version: 3.1.14.2
2.  rb.dll   Created & Modified:  28 Aug 2007 19:38 Version:  1.1.2.0

3.  (remember Device manager is only shown USB Serial Convertor
2.0.0.0  Dated 19/05/2006  Provider FTDI

No 3 is got me.....   As when asked for driver its getting pointed to the new files!

Extra:  In Add remove programmes the entry for drivers is not Airnav Drivers its
FTDI USB Serial Convector Drivers

Yes exactly, what I thought, you have not installed the latest driver.

As Allocator say above you should have put the patch drivers files into the drivers folder. Then during the update driver proccess you need to point to that.

Too easy, as I said I followed the instruction and more...

I will remove the driver AGAIN (as I did before once using the windows Uninstall driver and once time by picking the 5 related files from the windows/system32 and driver directory), it DID put the driver files in the Airnav drivers directory. I DID point to them when installing.

But I will run the process all over.

Run the AirNav RadarBox 2007 software. Click start and go to the Help menu, About box. Check the firmware version you have installed.

To all users: note that the RadarBox 2007 V1.2 software will only work with the last firmware installed. It will not work with the previous firmware version. Also the new firmware needs the new drivers. The HW//SW disconnection issue was caused by the old firmware and drivers so they really need to be updated.

Also this raises a question....

If the Box is at latest firmware (1.2) (think!!!)
How do we install the drivers, if it can only be done by going via updating previous ones, which do not install correctly so as to be able to update!!!

May have lost the plot I know, but after trying so many installs it losing me..

Can you please post a step by step on what to install and what to do taking that the Box is on firmware 1.2 and no software or drivers installed

DaveG,

Try this:

- Windows Control Panel (From Windows Start menu)

- Add Hardware

- Next

- Yes, I have already connected the Hardware

- Add a new Hardware Device

- Install hardware I select from a list

- Next

- Show all Devices

- Next

Windows might take a while "thinking" at this point!

- Have Disk

- Browse to /AirNav ReadarBox 2007/Drivers

- FTDIBUS.INF should be visible and selected

- Click Open

etc - I stopped at this point, but this should work if you dont have a driver installed to update.

The reason I say this is I cleaned my PC out this afternoon and started with the disc and then went to the latest update and did not reinstall the previous update. Question now is:  how to find what firmware is on the box?

It does sound like your Firmware has not been updated.

Just confirm that you have the following files in your /AirNav RadarBox 2007/ directory:

ANRB.exe                  08/09/2007
FirmWareUpdater.exe 08/09/2007
ftd2xx.dll                   01/08/2007
rb.dll                         28/08/2007

Again, check the dates.

Doro, DaveG:

Instructions:

1- Completely uninstall the old drivers (Control Panel, AirNav RadarBox, Properties, Uninstall Drivers) .
2- Unplug and plug again the USB cable and when asking for drivers point to the new ones (double check this)

Important: Our Hardware guys had issues sometimes with Windows: if you plug the USB cable to a specific USB plug it could be using the new driver. But if you change the plug in your computer to a different one Windows might select the old drivers again.

You keep missing the point.....

There are no Airnav drivers listed in Device Manager.  They are listed as USB Serial Converter.  I guess because the update failed first time around and uninstalling means you cant get the previous drivers back because they do not install with 1.2 firmware or 1.1, no idea what I'm on now.

So will try, but it will be "USB Serial Converter" that is uninstalled

AirNav,

If these chaps do not have/cannot install the USB driver, does this make it impossible to upgrade the Firmware?

If they have not updated the Firmware, then surely the original CD USB driver will work - at least to allow them to upgrade the Firmware?

Dave thanx, I reinstalled the drivers with have disk... and they are installed properly now. To be honest they most likely were properly installed a few attemps back, but I have been trying so much options and roll backs that somewhere along the line I made a mistake. The problem is however not solved. So I keep on looking for answers...

ftbudui.dll  25/07/2007   check
ftlang.dll    25/07/2007 check

Maybe you can rename the drivers in the system32 folder to stop them being found? (better that deleting them!)

DaveG:

OK, apologies. Lets try the following as we are in uncharted territory and getting too many PMS and messages and losing track of things.

What may (important!) have happened is during your first try to update to the new version you did not point to the latest drivers by mistake but you ran the firmware. As the firmware has updated the drivers are not syncing.

Can you therefore update the firmware (only) to 1.1 using the older patch? What happens does it allow it, if so then unistall the drivers and unplug and plug in again and does it recognise it as RadarBox after trying either the older drivers or the ones in the last patch.

Doro which driver version you using?

Try what Allocator is saying, but plug in the RadarBox to another USB port which its never been tried on before. This should get windows to think its a totally new device ignoring any drivers its had in the past.

"Can you therefore update the firmware (only) to 1.1 using the older patch?" I did this and it worked. From that point on the Upgrade shows
Version 1.01.0 (0.91 before)
Updating Version 1.01.2
But somehow I have the feeling this step is not completed. How can we verify this?

That's all it did with me too.  I think that you have updated the Firmware OK - but it would be really nice to actually know!!!!

AirNav, there MUST be a way to seeing what version the Firmware is, even if it's a DOS command line exe file.

Almost "fimware is showing that 1.01.2" no the upgrade screen shows
Version 1.01.0
Updating Version 1.01.2
But I cannot verify if it actually did upgrade... It think it did not. How do I verify?

The green box in the software now and then goed red. There is no data collected, and I had excellent reception, and I can see on the network that there is traffic I normally pick up. So we are not there quite yet...

Its likely Windows is being a pain and we need bypass its methods try:

copy FTDI.SYS (the one in the new patch) to %SystemRoot%\System32\drivers\ and reboot. (backup your old one in cas)

Then go to device manager, find RadarBox (if it appears that way) and try the update as mentione earlier.

have you had SBS-1 or an ICOM radio software installed to your PC? This leaves an FTDI driver installation on the PC that cannot be erased without using THEIR uninstall software (or a Windows reinstall).

Brisbane:

Firstly is the firmware updater in the RadarBox folder?
Is your version of drivers the latest one?
Do you have a SBS or Icom on your machine installed?

AirNav, Dave et al.

In view of the comment re SBS1 I re-checked my Main PC which has SBS1 running and also I connected RadarBox and had that on at the same time. Both working OK, even if a bit sluggish. However, although I had the latest program ARNB12 2007/09/08 shown I rechecked the RB driver version on this PC and it showed 2.0.0.0. I left both devices connected but shut down RB and went to the control panel route to the drivers, selected USB controllers, Airnav and then update drivers. When I used AirNavs "Have disc" it only showed the .INF file. I clicked OK and it then went back to the previous page which listed AirNav as the only option I clicked on it and it gave me a message which I ignored by clicking OK and then seemed to update something.  When I checked back to the details page I have Primetec 27/06/2007 2.2.4.0 installed. I did the obligatory reboot and re-opened RB and all is running OK. Airnav drivers  as quoted above still installed.  I am no computer expert but more by luck than judgement I appear to have it working. It also appears that when I had the crash incidents after I had upgraded the laptop yesterday I had in fact not got the correct drivers, but it still ran !.  Now both PC's are fully up-to-date and my laptop has been on again this morning since 6:00 with no problems.

Airnav, perhaps we need some easy way of checking the Firmware version as well as the program version and driver version separately.

Dave I can't remember exactly what the message I got was but ignoring it was the right option.  Best of luck.  Mike

On one of the two machines I used did have SBS software installed, the SBS hardware was not connected.
The clean install machine that is now running did not have SBS software installed. However, I'm still not sure if initialy not following the firmware migration path via 1.1 to 1.2 had something to do with the clean install machine not running.

Software has been up for about 8 hours, but it jammed changing the colors, so I gave it a kick. Photo download seems the only option not running, but I believe that was already reported.

The rest of the features are great!

Hi there,

This morning I had SBS1 running in background while I added the new drivers to my Radarbox configuration. I had no problems associated with it. However, the installation does not go as smoothly as it would appear to do on AirNavs instructions and some people are in trouble (see DaveG,s messages). So if yours ain't working now I think any upgrade would be good - and from experience, mine was crashing like yours and can homestly say tha since I confirmed that my laptop has the correct Firmware, operating program and drivers it has not crashed - see previous threads about tiems etc. It is still running today and has been since 06:00 except for 20 minutes when I connected it to my SBS1 PC to update the AirNav versions on that....

Keep it connected through the whole procedure. Otherwise it won't appear on your device manager page initially and you won't be able to update the firmware.

Once you have done the drivers update and firmware update. May be best to unplug and restart and then try RadarBox 2007.

Installed the Beta12 patch on my XP laptop too.  No problems with installation and RB running well.

One thing I did notice this time, is that when doing the driver update, it is a 2 part process.

- First you need to tell the update where the FTDIBUS.inf file is.

- Then you have to tell it where the FTDIBUS.sys file is - and the default location suggested by the upgrade window was not AirNav RadarBox 2007\Drivers as far as I can remember.  It might have been \Windows\System32\drivers.  Would this cause the driver update to fail if this file was used?

Also, you need to acknowledge the "Driver not tested for Windows" message to comtinue with the install.

Allocator,

I tried to explain (badly) this 2 part process. With mine, when it got to the Have disc screen I could only see the .INF file but I clicked open and it took me back to the other screen - so rather than click have disc again i clicked on the line of entry available which was Airnav and low and behold it loaded.

b744,

That might not have been a good move, to upgrade the firmware if it had not got past the earlier step.

What was the exact error when you pointed to the drivers?

We have had over 200 customers purchase the product. Majority of the customers are very happy and are using Version 1 (infact out network stats show this) and they don't even know this forum exists or never had to use it. Hence this forum is not  a full customer opinion.

To those users to have had issues 1.2 rectifies the problem.

Go into devices and RadarBox and right click and tell us the driver version. If the version is not the latest one its likely thats causing the issue.

Otherwise do the normal right click and run with admin rights if you are using Vista.

Just as a bit of good news for today. I am just about to switch off my radar box after 14 hours continuous use, of which 8 also included having network switched on. During the network time it peaked at 868 asircraft........

Congratulations AirNav, this is the first day since I have had my radarbox that I have been able to switch it off, I usually give up after a few crashes.  So I am pleased to give you credit for the new version which appears to be stable. Now I cant wait to get the version with picture download......

If you have extracted the files into the correct folder. Then its case of finding RadarBox in device manager and then clicking update driver and pointing to those files.

Some customers have reported having to do further steps in pointing to the correct inf using Vista. Unfortunately I don't have a Vista system on hand to talk you through it.

Also how does RadarBox 2007 react when the network flights are turned off. As at the moment we are logging the highest amount of flights so far on the network.

Mike:

Its being internally tested still and few issues to iron out there, as well making the software more efficient. But it will be done soon.

just to confirm the problem. Driver update, I choose browse my computer for driver software,then choose " let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer",select "have disk",and then point the computer at " c:\program files\airnav systems\airnav radarbox 2007\drivers" and if I select browse it finds "ftdibus.inf". I then hit next and get the following;
"windows encountered a problem,,,"
"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it."
"The system cannot find the file specified"

Stuck now so need a push in the right direction
Thanks

Dear friends out there: Can everybody inform me, how to remove all the RB-files and folders from my HD?
Even I delete the hole RB software folder, I cannot reinstall like the very first time some days ago.
When I start the application, there is the stored password again, and the Box is no starting. It seems, like somthings is corrupted with hiden files. Also the drivers in the device manager appears as "the actual drivers are install".
Is there something in the Box herself, that must also be deleted?
Thank you for any help!

Have you installed beta 2, drivers, and firmware?

I have been out all day, but I have no SBS or Icom installed. The firmware upgrader box appears in the folder. Most of the FTD files are dated 14th August. Just to refresh your memory, it states that the hardware is not installed when it is. It seems to try to install the new drivers before saying not connected.

Reggierat, welcome to the Forum, I see that you are new here.

Unlucky - maybe you haven't completed the upgrade correctly.  Beta12 and the new USB drivers are working well on both my desktop and laptop PC's and I'm very pleased with the new functions.

If you want the guys on the forum here to help you, we're going to need a bit more information.

- Did you have RB working OK before?

- What operating system are you using?

- What exactly have you done so far regarding the upgrade?
Title: Re: AirNav RadarBox 2007 - Version 1.2 (Patch Beta 2) Available for Download
Post by: Allocator on September 10, 2007, 09:05:59 AM
A minor snag with Beta12 which I did experience with an earlier Beta:

- If you have "Share Flight Data" selected in the Preferences menu and you do not have an Internet connection, RB will shut down after about 30 seconds.

- In this case, go to Preferences immediately and deselect "Share Flight Data" and RB will run OK.

- Remember that RB does not "remember" the selection made for "Share Flight Data" when it is shut down, so you will need to manually deselect Share each time you run RB without an Internet connection.

AirNav, I have reported this to AB as a bug.

Airnav support. When I start the programm, I can see the map, but no planes, there are no lights (blue or white) flickering.
I make different kind of try's, also Laptop and PC. Vista and XP.
My target is, to reinstall the very early version of the deliverance, because then I have had a well reception.
Buit it really seems. like there ist somethings changed in the Hardware Box. Is there any storage equipment? And how to put all in the early status of the deliverance?
I als lost my original CD, coming with the Box, May be the before stored programm in the folder C.programm files, that I c+p many times is missing some dates. Wher can I get an new one?
Thank you very much for help.

Hi Reggierat,

As I understand it, you used to be able to run RadarBox for about 20 minutes before a sysmem crash - which version of RB, was it the original version that came on the CD, or was it the Bseta11?

- You then updated the USB drivers - did this appear to work, if not, what problems did you have.

You have to make sure that you are using the correct FTDIBUS.inf and FTDIBUS.sys files for the USB driver upgrade.  If you read back through this forum, you will see that they do not automatically go into the \AirNav RadarBox 2007\Drivers directory

- Now, when you look in the device manager, you do not see AirNav RadarBox in the Universal Serial Bus Controllers section.

- Did you attempt the Firmware upgrade?

Thanks for reporting that bug.

reggierat:

You mention it shuts down with a "serious fault". Sounds like you are using 1.1 still. Tell us your RadarBox 2007 version number? Driver Version? and also whether you ran the firmware update. The past posts will indicate how you can get the above details.

walisch:

You cannot go back to version 1 if you try the beta. Can you provide the same detail as I have asked reggierat.

Update on Beta1.2 Internally:

Some customers have asked me to report back what we have found so far.

So far its been very good, over the last 24hours more than 50% of the customers connected on the network now have version 1.2 beta (we estimate that's over 25 customers now) and other than initial reports of having to change the screen refresh time its been working fine.

Some customers have left comments on the forum regarding having trouble upgrading and then disappeared and this seems likely they have been managed to upgrade and are happy.

We understand some customers are having trouble with updating either under vista or with other ftdi drivers which we are investigating.

If you do have an issue, Please provide us with your software version, driver version and whether you ran the firmware in your post.

N.B As a cautionary measure untill more is known, do NOT attempt to update the RadarBox firmware if you have not installed the latest driver.

Hi, I have been using Update 1 over the weekend at a remote location and had excellent results. I was looking forward to getting the 1.2 beta but seems I have fallen foul of the Vista / FTDI issues. All worked well before but now system is unusable. As soon as I plug the Radar Box in it starts the blue USB light flashing but nothing else. Will not respond to Beta 1.2 and seems to have lost my login and password. I suspect the issues are Vista related - running Home edition on a dual core HP Pavillion 9000 series and had great success to date. Any help or udate options to roll back to Patch one would be appreciated.
Firmware update seemed to go ok at one point but now its asking for the Radar Box to be plugged in while it already physically is but not seen logically.
Please help as I miss my box !!!

Just to update on the problems I had. Drivers now installed correctly and rbox working fine..so far. I am running on vista AND have the sbs drivers installed and sbs running alongside so no conflicts as yet.
A request...as I havent been using the box for many weeks due its problems, I have no real idea what the upgraded functions do. Is there anywhere a laymans guide ? For example, I thought I saw all unknowns are filled in using GAS populate. I have unkowns and cant see a way to update them.
Any pointers or general help much appreciated.
One other point, I have my HOME position but cant center the map on it despite putting the cursor over the position and pressing center map here....what am I doing wrong ?
Thanks in advance

Version OF RadarBox:  1.2
Driver Version:  FTDI 2.4.0.0  (USB Serial Converter)
Firmware:  1.2

Firmware did run okay after doing first update to 1.2 drivers, but did not connect to hardware and firmware file was inside the folder and displayed correct old & new version numbers during process.

Everything else as per this thread and other (Patch 2 DaveG)

Hello,

I was able to install the new drivers for the RB by using ftclean and removing the write protection for some ftdi related files in the \system32 directory (on a second PC I did not have to remove the write protection).

Now I have beta V1.2 with firmware 1.2 and the drivers 2.2.4.0 dated 27.6.2007. Finally!

Unfortunately it conflicts with my Garmin GPSMAP. It seems I can either use the RB or my Garmin.

Hope it helps,

Hi Allocator,
It hasn't been working properly since purchase, running for 20min and crashing started when beta ll was installed.
I have reinstalled drivers but when you look at serial bus controllers the RB has been renamed FTDIFT8U2XX Device. It  appears drivers are loaded  to this.
When you try Firmware updater you get message on screen please connect RB.
I am spending hours on this all for what?

Brisbane:

Without sounding rude, have you followed the patch instructions at the start of this post?

The reason why is that you have Version 1.1 beta files not Beta 2.

Again I repeat please users with knowledge of computers to only attempt the update. We don't have the man power to walk everybody through a beta version. For those customers you will need a wait a bit for the final release.

Sorry to sound grumpy :)

Airnav, you do sound grumpy ;) Your support is excellent, so hang in there. Perhaps it is an idea to make a locked 'how to' discussion topic with a summary of the known problems and additional instructions for people that do not readback on the forum. Ronald

Brisbane, these are the Beta12 files you should have in your /AirNav RadarBox 2007/ directory:

ANRB.exe                  08/09/2007
FirmWareUpdater.exe 08/09/2007
ftd2xx.dll                   01/08/2007
rb.dll                         28/08/2007

Note the the dates.

Also, if you read back through the forum, you will see this explanation that I posted about where the patch files end up:

- When the Beta12 patch is downloaded, it is a zip file.

 - If files are unzipped using the directory parths that come with the zip, they are put in a /ARNBPatch12 and /ARNBPatch12/Drivers directory

- You then need to copy the flies manually to the appropriate locations in the AirNav RadarBox 2007 directory structure

- The 4 files in the /ANRB/ directory need copying to the /AirNav RadarBox 2007 directory

ANRB.exe
FirmwareUpdater.exe
ftd2xx.dll
rb.dll

- The 7 files in the /ARNBPatch12/Drivers directory need copying to the /AirNav RadarBox 2007/Drivers directory

ftbusui.dll
ftd2xx.dll
ftd2.h
ftd2xx.lib
ftdibus.inf
ftdibus.sys
ftlang.dll

- Once you've done this, it's the new inf file in the /AirNav RadarBox 2007/Drivers directory that you browse to when installing the new RB drivers.

Hi allocator, it would seem that my files are a mix of new and old for some reason. ANRB dated 7/8/2007 02.34 Version0.0.0.0 1.73MB, Firmware update 8/9/2007 01.29 955KB, FTD2XX 27/6/2007 14.10 197KB, rb.dll 28/8/2007 19.38 208KB. Don't know why some files updated and not others.

AirNav,
Think I have found a little bug!  I had map set at my location and pressed Esc. to fill all of screen. The map had been set not to show Vertical tracking view. When I return to the normal screen by pressing Esc. again the Vertical view returns but when I look in the drop down list it is not shown "tagged" as in use. If I click on it it "tags" and then I can turn it off.  This only occurs after using the "full screen " option.

Brisbane,

I suggest that you download the Beta12 patch again, unzip it and then copy the files manually to the correct AirNav directories so at least you have the correct files.

I don't know where you are regarding the driver update and Firmware update, but you need to EXACTLY follow the AirNav instructions at the very beginning of this thread to make sure the update works.  Also, do heed the AirNav advice below:

N.B As a cautionary measure untill more is known, do NOT attempt to update the RadarBox firmware if you have not installed the latest driver.

I installed the new drivers (beta2), and the new beta2 firmware patch, then I use the beta 1 software with the possibility to download the pictures and it seems there are no problems anymore

Locking post as post has now become too long and starting a new post with the relevant information.
