Post by: Allocator on January 02, 2009, 05:27:46 PM
Staples - GBP 107.65 - absolutely amazing when running RadarBox at 1680x1050

Thats a nice screen shot.

I am running two screens. The left is a 22inch wide screen monitor and the right is my 15inch laptop.

I run SBS on the left and PP on the right (along with internet/scanner software etc).

It's well worth getting (a) a 2nd monitor and (b) a high resolution screen.

Well, it might be going back to Staples!

It's started switching itself off - not going to standby or anything like that, just tuning off.  I've shut down and done a connection check and replaced the mains lead, but I get a bit of a bad feeling here.  Oh well, it's Saturday tomorrow and Staples isn't too far away!

It's stopped working altogether now, it just won't switch on Grrrrrrr..........

All boxed up and going back to Staples tomorrow :-(

I'm sure it was the last one, but they had other makes at around the same price.

Back from Staples, no quibble exchange for a different make 22 inch LCD at the same price.  No built in speakers in this one, but then they were tiny speakers anyway.

I run dual 22" Samsungs  Very good, but would welcome undockable windows. (Coming one day, hopefully).

I finally got myself a new monitor.  With a £30 gift voucher, it cost me £90 to get a 1920x1080 22" monitor from Argos - http://www.argos.co.uk/ProductDisplayTRK019?partNumber=6705048

Now I've got to sort out speakers for the PC.  Can anyone recommend any PC speakers that can accept TWO inputs.  I'd like to have a single set of speakers for PC and radio (UBC800XLT).

Indeed

I have dual monitors (22" & 19") and have the drivers set to give me 1 big extended screen (3000 x 1028), which is perfect for ANRB with the interface stretched over the 22" and the radar screen stretched across the 19"

Simple solution
Connect the scanner via line(or ext.spkr) to the pc line-in, audio via pc-spkrs.

I tried that, but how do I tell the PC to output the line-in signal to the speaker output?

Two steps - go to "Volume Control/Options/Properties" for your soundcard device - make sure you select the right one if you have multiple sound devices.

1) Make sure "line in" is selected for recording
2) Make sure "line in" is not muted for playback

fwiw I have the playback setting muted here so I don't hear the scanner that ACARS is using through my speakers, but I still hear everything else through the speakers.

Thanks pjm.  Anyone know how to do this in Vista - the control panel boxes are completely different.

EDIT: Solved.  There's a Vista registry hack to enable line-in monitoring.  It's turned off by default to prevent feedback effects when using a headset.

In the Registry, find any entries for "EnableInputMonitor", and set these to "0000 01".  That then turns on a feature in the sound properties to enable monitoring of the line-in input.  After a re-boot, that then adds a new function to the control panels:

Can't test that it works though until I buy some speakers for my PC :(

Hello Tarbat, in which registry is it. Don't need to use it yet but would save some time later.

Cheers Stuart.

Hello Tarbat, in which registry is it. Don't need to use it yet but would save some time later.

On my PC, it was in the following registry keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000\Settings\filter\SpeakerHp
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Control\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000\Settings\filter\SpeakerHp
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000\Settings\filter\SpeakerHp

But best to just find (ctrl+F) on "EnableInputMonitor"

I'm still having problems getting this working.  I've got my scanner connected to the line-in on my PC sound card, and output goes to my new speakers.

I've got INPUT MONITOR enabled in Sound Preferences.  I can record from my scanner okay in Windows Recorder, but I can't get the line-in sound to output on the speakers.

Any other ideas?
