Title: Wakefield Newby Screenshot.....I Hope.
Post by: Ralph on November 30, 2008, 05:29:18 PM
Hi There

Had RB for three weeks now and i am very impressed with it.
I have had scanners and hf receivers for 10+ years now and allways found airband listening facinating.
Its great to watch inbound traffic on the box and pick up the comms on the scanner.
For the first week i used the supplied antenna but as the shack is in the middle of the house the coverage was limited.
After doing some research i bought 10m LMR-400 coax and a BS Mini Base Station Antenna from a local radio supplier it is very well made and the results were great.
The antenna was made by www.panorama-antennas.com .

I am thinking of fitting a preamp at some time to get even better coverage.
Perhaps someone can tell from my polar diagram if i am wasting my money or not with adding a preamplifier.

Attached (i hope) is my polar diagram with the new antenna on a 5ft pole above my roofline.
By for now....Ralph

Excellent coverage, I don't think you need a pre-amp.

Welcome Ralph,

That's excellent coverage. As Paul and Kevin say, I'd be surprised if you got any better coverage with a pre-amp.

Enjoy,

Tom

A pre-amp my just introduce some spikes that may make it look like you are receiving more when in reality you are not.

Thanks for the advise.

Great news that a pre-amp wont be needed, a few pounds saved there.
Just need more play time to get used to all the RB functions now.

Happy Monitoring
Ralph

Hi Colinhall
I think the secret is getting the antenna as high and in the clear as you can,
and fed with some good quality coax.

Best Luck
