As many users have asked these files have four lines being:
Line 1: Left of the satellite layer (longitude)
Line 2: Top of the satellite layer (latitude)
Line 3: Right of the satellite layer (longitude)
Line 4: Bottom of the satellite layer (latitude)
The format used for each coordinate is:
Format Used = Degrees x 60 x 60 x 1500
West/South being negative values.
Example:
15W = -15 x 60 x 60 x 1500 = -81000000
-
Looks slightly more complicated than this.
I've taken my Inverness satellite image as an example, which has:
A = -38610333, B = 300313394, C = 34548684, D = 19724088
To get the co-ordinates of LEFT (long), TOP (lat), RIGHT (long), and BOTTOM (lat):
TOP = (B+D)/60/60/1500
LEFT = A/60/60/1500
BOTTOM = B/60/60/1500
RIGHT = (A+C)/60/60/1500
And to go the other way, from map co-ordinates (in decimal degrees) to STL file, use:
Line 1 = LEFT*60*60*1500
Line 2 = BOTTOM*60*60*1500
Line 3 = (RIGHT-LEFT)*60*60*1500
Line 4 = (TOP-BOTTOM)*60*60*1500

This helps a lot now, my previous attempts were a bit hit & miss.
I've just knocked this up, I had to stitch images together to make the large map, the only problem now is having to change the flight colours so that I can see them.

Tarbat, maybe that stl.xls should go to the airnavutilities.co.uk site. It is really very useful.
-
Great work Tarbat! Thank you very much. I now have Google and ICAO charts as layer thanks to your explanation.

Thanks Airnav and Tarbat for your help with this issue.
Will go and make some maps when I have some time.

@ HH:
would you please be so kind as to show us (me) your screen with the ICAO layer active and tell us (me) how you have achieved this? would be very nice.

I thought about making it easier for the aircraft to show up as they get lost against the mapping and thought about making the map more 'transparent' or lighter in PS or something...would that work?
Anybody tried it?
Of course I would have to make a map first...;^)

I've tried changing the transparency - I use a brilliant graphics programme called Xara Xtreme. Used various versions of Xara for years. It works quite well, but getting the coastlines lined up takes some doing with resizing and rotating.
Also tried different satellite imagery, specifically Modis high-res from NASA
Also changed the map colours to get better contrast.

Hi DC,
CS2 not good enough for you then? ;^)
Would be good to see some examples of your screen if at all possible?
Thanks & kind regards,

I've made the map darker so that I don't have to keep changing the default colours, it looks a lot better now. See here... www.hellovictim.co.uk/airnav2.jpg
