At the risk of exposing my ignorance .... what is the significance of a 7700 squawk ?
-
It's an emergency code - "Special Purpose Code - Emergency"
With passenger aircraft (including ZE705?) it's often a passenger medical emergency - but not always...

ZE705 looks like an RAF aircraft registration. Probably a TriStar.

Tristar, flew in about 7 this evening across East Anglia towards Lyneham or Brize Norton.

It is indeed. 43C07A a Lockheed L-101 Tristar. Sometimes military aircraft squawk 7700 when practicing a simulated emergency - though of course in the case of this particular aircraft, possibly carrying troops, it could have been for real.
