Title: Suggestion: Squawk Code Lookup
Post by: tarbat on August 18, 2008, 09:33:26 AM
Sorry, me again, with another suggested feature.  Well, you did ask for more!!

It occurred to me today, as I looked up yet another squawk code in my "Airwaves 2008" book, wouldn't it be great if ANRB could take the squawk code of an aircraft, and display which ATC centre has that SSR Code assigned.

Maybe only possible in the UK, using the list in http://www.nats-uk.ead-it.com/aip/current/enr/EG_ENR_1_6_en.pdf .  Although it could be applied to any location by allowing the end-user to edit the squawk code lookup table.  For example (in my location):
0301 - 0377 = ORCAM UK Airspace
3701 - 3747 = RAF Lossiemouth
4250 - 4267 = Aberdeen Approach
4610 - 4667 = Scottish Military
6160 - 6177 = Inverness Approach

This has been thought of before however we have never found squawk details for other countries.

We fear that we would get lots of support tickets about this feature if you were not a UK user.
Anything which is country specific or continent specific might cause us issues with other customers for other areas.

Just a thought, but if you're concerned about support tickets, then you could implement this with a very basic set of codes allocated - for example:
0000 - 7477 Air Traffic Control
7500 Special Purpose Code - Hi-Jacking
7501 - 7577 Air Traffic Control
7600 Special Purpose Code - Radio Failure
7601 - 7677 Air Traffic Control
7700 Special Purpose Code - Emergency
7701 - 7777 Air Traffic Control

And then allow users to develop their own list of local squawk codes, much like we do for airline logos, country flags, etc.
