Title: rbl editor
Post by: bee46 on September 19, 2009, 09:35:29 AM
Hi guys, is there a way to edit the rbl files I know there is a program who can do it with the recorded sbs1 files, but I can not find the way to edit the radarbox files, maybe airnav has the solution?

The rbl files are only text files, so you can open them with Windows Notepad, or any other text editor.  You can then delete chunks based on the timestamps to leave the bit you want.

In this very simple manual extraction, I've just copied the lines from the rbl file that have EXS740 in them, so when I play this back, onlt thie aircraft shows.

Now, can somebody clever find a better way that cutting and pasting manually :-)

There was a utility on the forum here, but I think that the author stopped developing it.

This works very well, all I need to do now is to find a similar program that is free!

OK, an easier (free) way of extracting aircraft from an rbl file :-)

- Use a spreadsheet program to open the rbl file as a txt file (mark all the colunms at Text otherwise the figures will be changed

- Sort by callsign (Flight ID)

- Copy and paste the sallsign section you are interested in into a new spreadsheet

- sort the new spreadsheet by the time column

- sabe as a csv txt file

-rename as an .rbl file

- job's a good 'n  - see attached rbl file for RYR1109 :-)

When I were a lad, we just opened a DOS Window and used the Find command ...

Yes, the Google search did bring up quite a few hits with 'DOS' in them :-)

Brilliant - well done finding this!

The option you need is 'Whole words only that contain the keyword'  then save as name.rbl

welcome :), the only thing I need know is the possibility in the radarboxsoftware, when I play a recorded file I can choose the time, for example I want to follow an aircraft from 10.00pm, till 11.00 pm, would be very nice , maybe radarbox can work on it, maybe a good idea

It would be nice to have it built into RB, but you cab still do this manually.  The date/time format in the rbl file is as follows:

20090831135309375

YYYY MM DD HH MM SSSSS
2009 08 31 13 53 09375

YYYY=year
MM=Month
DD=Day
HH=Hour
MM=Minutes
SSSS=Seconds (not sure of the format, but not critical if you have the hours and minutes)

Example:
$PTA,20090831135309375,4CA2D6,,30700,,,,,52.6794,-3.0132,,
$PTA,20090831135309375,4CA2D6,,30700,407.6,173.5,-2368,,52.6786,-3.0130,,
$PTA,20090831135309375,4CA2D6,,30675,408.6,173.5,-2560,,52.6779,-3.0128,,
$PTA,20090831135309375,4CA2D6,,30650,,,,,52.6760,-3.0125,,
$PTA,20090831135309390,4CA2D6,,30600,408.6,173.5,-2752,,52.6738,-3.0121,,

So you can load your rbl file into a txt editor, and just copy the time block you want to another txt file and save it as .rbl
