Finally we have RB 5.00
For those who bite the bullet upgrade to RadarBox 5.00.044 and would like to share your experience and bug found. Please post here.
Mine download and upgrade is fine.
Here are my findings in the first 15 min:
- The airport name now shows correctly.
- Report shows all contact are new contact
- Recipient email to sent log to are lost
Hope it will be stable enough since I will be away from this RB for the whole week.
Kenny
-
- Report shows all contact are new contact
Checked, and reproduced. Logged on bug tracker (FS#237).
-
I just did the upgrade and my Radar Rings no longer extend over the water.
And I thought someone mentioned that flights like Westjet who populate the flight ID's with just a number would now be recognized and logos displayed?
Cheers,
Jason

A screenshot might help to understand the problem. Maybe check your colour settings?

The problem of airlines not displaying the ICAO code part of their flight ID will be addressed in a later update
Alan
-
Just checked my map and the radar rings are displayed which would suggest the colour scheme you use could do wiht some adjustment. See attached shot
-
I just changed my radar rings to a bright white, which should easily go over the blue water with no effect.
I will try to close down and restart the software,
Cheers
-
CYYZGUY, I've managed to reproduce the problem. It seems specific to your location, so I'll log this as a bug. Seems to only affect interior water such as lakes, etc.
-
Thank you sir, I will just run it without the Radar Rings from now on, otherwise it will drive me crazy...
:))
-
weird huh!!
-
Yeh, very weird. But hey, that's what public beta testing is for!!
-
On a plus note, I notice a MUCH faster shutdown and startup of the software. Also, screen movement seems a little more fluid to me. Overall, so good so far other then the Radar Rings not showing over lakes around Ontario Canada..
Are we ever going to be able to adjust the column widths "flightid's, registration, aircraft etc...."??
-
Ok, does anyone have a solution for this? Under "Home Station Data" It is coming up as "Toronto" which is close to me.
Before it was Blank. I was using my manually inputted co-ordinates to centre on my house.
How can I remove "Toronto" from the Home Station Data drop down menu?
-
Right click on the map at your home location, and select "Set as home location".
-
As always, thank you!!!
-

That's good. a fair bit of development went into "under-the-hood" improvements.
Are we ever going to be able to adjust the column widths "flightid's, registration, aircraft etc...."??
Not in RB5 - at some point we had to stop and release the beta. Maybe something for the next version, including being able to change the sequence of columns as well.
-
As an update , the "Geographical Co-Ordinates" do not show over any masses of water as well.
And where it says "Map Centre" at the top of your screen also gets cut off over water..for my location anyways..
cheers,

Noted - thanks for the feedback. As beta testers it's really annoying when we miss a bug :(
-
HIi Chris,
It's good to see that you're back on board and involved with the Beta testing and development, with you, Alan and the others pushing forward we may get the product that we all want.

Jason, regarding the rings, does it do the same with the satallite layer and or the OpenStreet Map layer?

Hi Tarbat, now with the "Start Update" for the database update feature, does this mean when I post for example a "no route being showing" request under the database updates thread and it gets updated by Alan or whoever, it will automatically be downloaded?
Should we be doing the "Start Update" feature daily to keep up with additions as they come along?
Hopefully you understand what I mean....
-
what is RB1 and RB2 when the software is started?
Because it says RB1 found and RB2 not found.
Thanks
-
Hi Alan, yes it does, just tested it. No rings/co-ordinates show...
-
Uploaded the upgrade (first use of RB for over a year) and all appears well using the 4.3 upwards version.
Just one thing I dont seem able to adopt 2d version etc has that been dissabled with 5.00?
-
Hi all, copied over from the Development Update topic Reply #239 as it should be in here really?
"Oh, this is really great, downloaded and installed the "upgrade" version - and whilst RB seems to load and open, I've no display screen - I just get error messages, such as "Could not obtain OLE control window handle". RB is working OK, just haven't got my display screen! Wonderful..........."
As everyone else seems to be OK, I've probably done something wrong!
-
Hi Roadrunner,
2D is what I am using and going by the previous post i think most are using it as well. Could you close down and restart and see if the problem persists with you.
Alan
-

RB1 is the Radarbox hardware.
Just one thing I dont seem able to adopt 2d version etc has that been dissabled with 5.00?
2D mode should work okay. What happens when you click on the "Map View" button?
-
John,
If you have not already done so, could you close down and restart and advise if the problem persists.
Alan
-
Thanks Tarbat!
Can you send me or put in the forum this files - GE_Models and GE_Layers folders and maybe some other files for 3D.
Regards
P.S- Why all the planes are to appear in the Report as new, if I just did an upgrade?
-
Aerotower, did you loose your 3D models and layers in the upgrade process?
Alan
-
I have closed and restarted ANRB the first thing I notice is that on loading it shows RB1 Found RB2 not found whatever that means. I am in 3D but as soon as I close 3D the screen goes grey and although the list of sircraft still shows I see no map whatsoever....
-
No Alan i have upgrade from 3.03 2D, but now i want to put on this one the 3D models.
CORRECTION: Not 3.03 but 3.13.
-
No Alan i have upgrade from 3.03 2D, but now i want to put on this one the 3D models.
My guess is you have two choices. Either install 4.03 and then upgrade to 5.00.044, or probably best to uninstall, and do a full install of v5.
And you can safely ignore the RB2 not found message.

I don't know how frequently the database updater should be run - presumably Airnav can confirm how frequently the server is updated. This will replace the old process of downloading the database update each month.
But remember, if you have autopopulate turned on, as routes expire (after 3 months) they will be updated from the server automatically in the same way they always have. If you want to force an update, simply delete the route from the routes table in database explorer and next time the FlightID appears, the route will autopopulate from the server.

It's all working fine here - I like the new grid sorting indicator - can someone explain this feature from the list:
"Allow users to disable auto sort on main grid view" ?

- Click heading once (BOLD) - sort ascending
- Click heading again (ITALIC) - sort descending
- Click heading again - turns OFF auto-sorting
One of the many little changes to RB5 ;)
-
Aha - thanks, Tarbat!

Hi have a problem whit the new V5 software, it erases airplanes I had already caught the MyLog earlier, as in the case below.
and is very slow when I pass a plane to another in MyLog.
Regards
-
Try running Populate in the MyLog window.
-
Hi Alan, Yes, I've closed right down (Shutdown of PC) and turned back on again getting a box displayed
"The application has encountered a problem. We are sorry for the inconvenience" and a big red cross box.
In the box it says: "Cannot open file "C:\AirNav Systems\AirNav RadarBox\ANRB.dat". The system cannot find the file specified." To see what the data report contains, "Click Here" and an "OK" button.
This leads to Eureka Log 6.0.18 and a load of data information that it won't let me copy and paste
but I've tried a screen dump which hopefully be accessible to you.

just downloaded and installed the upgrade, everything seems to be working fine at first sight.
a couple of questions ;
screenshot 002 ; will I loose any manual entry I made in the DB if I tick this option ? ore what do I have to expect it to do ?
screenshot 003 ; the header of the silhouette collom is missing ( not a big deal )
screenshot 004 ; IF I understand it right, setting these options will update all data in the DB, except the entry's I made manually, and if yes, how do the updater makes the difference between a "official" entry and a manual one ??
thanks in advance for some clarification ;-)
-
A new Navdata is run each night around midnight I dont know the exact time and is available for updating thereafter. Any changes to the database made in the previous 24 hours since the last one was run will be incorporated
Alan
-
Aerotower, to get 3D you require to subscribe to the 3D option.
Alan
-
another "new" thing I noticed : some flight ID's are longer then the collum width ( see the ones with a blue dot ), of course no way to enlarge the collum
-
oeps, rather annoying problem : no more network !
get network flights is ticked, and connection to network is green, but nothing in the grid.
-
Vonsmalhousen
Re Scrrenshot 2 This relates to auto-updates when the individual aircraft is received. If the box is ticked the details will be updated to the same as the server entry. If unticked it will not be touched.
I will forward the error with the silhoutte column header
Screenshot 4 refers to the whole databse as opposed to individual aircraft in screenshot 2
If the Navdata details are different from the server details it must have been manually updated. If you tick or untick the boxes the tables are updated or not depending on your preferences.
Alan
-
The network is OK here in Spain, maybe the network went dowen for a short time?
Alan
-
There is something wrong with those flight ID's they are incorrect. Is your radarbox connected directly to your computer and via anther method?
Alan
-
John,
In your airnav/radarbox folder above ANRB.exe you should have a file, ANRB.dat. Let me know if you have it
Alan
-
and is very slow when I pass a plane to another in MyLog.

Same problem here, but only with "old" data (before the upgrade to v.5). When I selected an aircraft contacted yesterday for example, it's very long and Mylog "isn't responding" for about 15-30 seconds, then it's ok.
Also, all the aircraft pictures downloaded before the update aren't appearing now?!
-
Downloaded and seems to be ok. The only issue I came across was I had no map at all showing (don't use 3D) and only by chance clicked on the map view button top right of screen and map appeared. Everything else ok, I can even resize the preference windows for the first time without having to use resizenable.
tommyg
-
just restarted my system : still no network, and I still get these "wrong" flight ID's
my box is connected true a USB Hub to my PC, ..... like it always has been
-
vonsmalhausen,
Something does seem wrong for your install, try backing up data and then clean the RadarBox folder and install the new full version again. Something looks like it has been corrupted.
-
ok, will do that
-
Hi Alan, Just done another complete shutdown and reboot, on trying to open ANRB I et a box with the message:
Cannot open file "C:\AirNav Systems\AirNav RadarBox\ANRB.dat". The system cannot find the file specified.
This would appear to confirm your suggestion, and I've not been able to locate it!
-
This one isn't related to Version 5 only, but does anyone else have this effect with B788s?

Hi John,
I have been trying to attach the file to the post but for some reason I cannot get it to attach. Send me a PM with your email and I will post it to you. It was in an earlier post but has disappeared.
Alan
-
ok, did a complete uninstall, and installed the full version instead of the upgrade, ......
still the same : no network ( the first time I launched, I was even back to delayed network ) aldo the light is green + still those long ID's for some flights
also I feel like I have a lot less "my flights" ; normally I get around 150+ hits round this time of the day/week, now "only" between 90 and 100.
really not pleased with this "update"
tomorrow i'll try to reverse back to the old version, if this is what we had to wait for the last years...........pffffffffff
-
Just tried to open the submenu show all photos under MyLog. There are 36471 pictures in this folder. RB Software freeced with no reaction. After a while windows stated the "no reaction" message and performed a crowbar shut down of software. After re-start all screen settings were back to condition of first start after update.
MyLog was left filled. Autopopulated airframes were still in navdatabase.
Problem is repoduceable.
Ingo
-
The VTBD label on 2D map is now corrected, however, still no VTBS label (see attach).
-
uninstalled version 5, and reinstalled version 4 : network back on again and no more strange ID's
applied the update again....... network gone again
this is defenatly a version 5 problem
-
I dont have anywhere near 36471 photos in my folder but it still takes a while for all my photos to open. Even thought it showed not responding it still opened up when I just tried it, even if it took some time. 37,000 photos is a lot of data to open up and will take a while to open them all up
Alan
-
Is it possible, that your firewall -if you are using one- is having a problem with version 5?
Own problem:
Log and altert sending by using own mail account ist not working. Mail/alert via Server is working. Mail Account configuration in ANRB is identical to mail program. Firewall comsettings of ANRB and Mail program altered to identical settings. I gettting still the sent failed notification from ANRB software.
-
Kenny,
That part has not been sorted yet.
Alan
-
Alan,
I have the exact same problem as CoastGuardJon with the same long screed of fault messages. I also have to use the Task Manager to close the thing down. Beginning now to feel a bit like vonsmalhausen. I can't even get the original version back on.
Giving up and closing down. What a waste of time !
Ian
-
Ingo,
Even although your getting the sent failed notification, did the mail get sent.
Alan
-
Ian,

This is a known fact and I gave the V5 twice the time V4 had needed to open the pictures. Maybe I should rename the folder and start with a blanc one. Last time I flushed the folder was about three years ago, so many airframe pictures will be already outdated by now too.
I have about 27000 (22000 in the past 280 days on the 24/7 box) airframes in my MyLog. Two pictures for each airframe...
Ingo
-
Mail haven't been sent. No rise in upload traffic, No mail received with destination address. Switched back to server mode and tried again. Rise in uplaod traffic and LOG/Data received, no "sent failed" notification.
Ingo

Thanks Ingo
Alan

The naming of the donwloaded photo has changed withing V5:
G-CIVZ-QHFOAUPJDX.jpg
G-CIVZ-U2GWCD9SBC.jpg
is it still possible to insert individual ones in the old reg / reg,2 format?
Ingo
-
Yes Ingo, photo's can still be added manually as before. However I believe you have to add the aircraft registration into the PTTN and PTTN2 fields as well.
Alan
-
Good to know.
Ingo
-
Is it correct, that flight data received by V5 Software is not used to feed RB24 Website?
Ingo
-
what does it mean that the database has been encrypted and what is the purpose/advantage, tried to run some script and it failed because db is encrypted
thanks,
Mark
-
No incorrect Ingo,
Alan
-
It is encrypted to ensure that it cannot be used outside the application
Alan
-
No incorrect Ingo,
Alan
Well, then there seems to be a problem with my V5 on the desktop PC. Sharing is on, but no flights of this box is shown on RB24. Although I send my 24/7 PC into its weekly reboot. Ususally the flights are shared 60/40 (40 from 24/7 if the "big" one is on) if both machines are running. And if the 24/7 is going down for a weekly reboot 100% of shared flights are provided by desktop PC.
Ingo
-
Hi Ingo,
If flights are shared with the network they should go to RB24 as it uses the network data. Have you created an account on RB24 and linked your box?
Alan
-
Both boxes were linked for several month. I've used the update function of V5 software. Username and password of previously V4.03 version were automatically used to logon the ANRB V5 software after updating. Also the open and auto connect/logon function of the desktop link has worked flawlessly. Maybe its a firewall problem. I'll look what happens, if switch it off for a few minutes.
Ingo
-
I would check the RB24 accounts settings as well.
Alan
-
RB24 settings already checke and re-entered to be shure. No effect. Switching off firewall: no effect. Reboot system and Software: No effect. Will wait to swicht to V5 on 24/7 machine until V5 -> RB24 connection is working for me. Deeper/further testing is difficult as I'm not at home and using remote acces to the RB computers.
Ingo
-
The interesting thing is, that the V5 user id is the one with the expired network account. As the autopopulate/route update function is working, the box seems to be identified as a valid sharer by the AN servers. But for some reason the retrieved data isn't used for RB24 website and maybe the RB network. Maybe time will tell.
Good night and goodbye for today!
Ingo
-
Hi,
Thanks to everyone for their hard work on the update. I have downloaded and installed V5 fine. A significant improvement.
I do though continue to have a bug (I also had this in the previous version). I thought (perhaps mistakenly) that this would be solved by the "The Spurious Position Bug" being fixed. The issue I have is with landing aircraft. At Stansted and Luton (my nearest airports) I can track these to a relatively low altitude (around 2,500 feet) before they time out. However occasionally (maybe every 5-6 aircraft) after the aircraft has time out it is re-detected around 30 seconds later for 1-2 seconds but this time with an erroneous altitude (can be up to 36,000 feet). As a result the end altitude for that flight in my log is shown as incorrect.
Jon
-
Thanks Jon,
I will pass on your report to the developer for further action.
Alan
-
With V4.03 I have this problem several times a day, too. To few landings in EDDV until now to tell if I still have it with V5.
Ingo
-
I still have the following problem (that also existed on V4.03). On my Vista(...) computer, RB crashes whenever I return to from the screensaver or lock screen. It only occurs after I have installed MS Office 2010. As soon as I unstall Office, the crash does not occur. I am running as an administor. The following details come up:

New Aircraft entries have the symbol *
--- End of Report ---
I have select the autopopulate in preferences.
But I'm so disapointed.......

Thanks Alan
Jon

After update I can't share data to RB24 and I can't see netwok data flights.
I've reinstall many times the soft and still have the same problem.
-
- Report shows all contact are new contact
Checked, and reproduced. Logged on bug tracker (FS#237).
After rolling to the next day after upgrade to 5.00.044. All flights still 'new' flights.

Mail haven't been sent. No rise in upload traffic, No mail received with destination address. Switched back to server mode and tried again. Rise in uplaod traffic and LOG/Data received, no "sent failed" notification.
Ingo
Mine both manually send and schedule send are working.

As a few others have already noted, I have sharing ticked, but none of my contacts are showing on RB24.com. Under my stats on RB24, I am at 0 every hour since I upgraded this morning my time.
I am unsure for the network as I don't subscribe.
It doesn't really bother me too much, so long as it isn't affecting my ability to download database updates etc...
Mike
-
Same here. No flight in my stats since the upgrade 19/10 ~0715Z.
-
We are checking the RB24 upload problem.
-
Sorry didnt get back to you yesterday but I have now got the 2d version running. It was so long since last used RB that I had forgotten that Map view (top right) is the 2D version and when I pressed it first time round I had to wait a good 30 seconds for anything to happen. All OK now.

still no network flights for me
today I uninstalled again version 4 ( that is working perfectly after reinstall yesterday ) with a uninstall program ( Revo uninstaller ) to get rid of possible traces left by the standard program uninstaller.
after that I redownloaded the full installer, to rule out the possibility of a corrupted download of the precedent
installed the full version of v5 ; still no network and wrong flight id's
checked my firewall ( Norton 360 ) and the only entry I could find for ANRB has full access
the network light is green, and there is connection to the server, as it does download missing photos and yesterday I tried the update function witch seemed to work
BUT, even with this supposing "clean install" my account name and password are already filled in on start-up, also my homestation details are already filled in ; so there has to be something in the register that escapes to the uninstall process, maybe it is this that creates my problem ; how can I find and remove this file ?
-
Just checked RB24 and now there some entries from my V5 driven box in statistics now:
Sat 16:00UTC 0,0275
Sun 04:00UTC 0,0089
Sun 07:00UTC 0,0177
rest still blanc.

This problem (RB500 not sharing to RB24.com) should be corrected now. Please confirm.
-
Yip, all corrected. My data is now showing on RB24.com
Mike
-
Yes, it's ok.
-
For users of both the RadarBox Windows Software and RadarBox24.com / Apps: which ideas would like to see implemented on the RB24 system to give you (sharers) a more customized experience with the system? Statistics of shared data? Filter by your own received flights?
Send us some ideas so we can do some brain storming here and come up with more interesting features.
-
Does v5 allow more than three airports to be entered for a route? If not, I think it would be useful to be able to add more to the 'via' column to allow the full route of some routes to be shown.
Mike
-
Yes, seems to work now. Will monitor throughout the day.
Ingo
-
Well, I took the plunge, and uninstalled RB and tried to delete any and everything with an AN or possible RB connection, and tried installing the new "Full installation" program which seemed to go OK, however when I now try to start RB, I get the normal very slow response with the green box checking for RB1 then RB2 etc. and eventually when the screen sorts itself out, I appear to have RB open, but totally inoperable - just a screen full of the start screen for Google Earth - any suggestions folks?
-
is it really only me who has this network problem with v5 ????!!!!!!!!!
after several attempts of uninstalling, reinstalling and updating, I give up
just reinstalled version 4.03 ( you know, "the buggy one" ) and everything runs like it is supposed to be.
to give a answer to the question in the title of this topic ; "Your experience upgrading to 5.00.044", I can tell you : EXTREMELY bad and VERRY, VERRY, VERRY DISSAPOINTED !!!!!!!
and now there will be no more updates to the DB to download anymore, so in a couple of months ( weeks ) my box will be completely obsolete, Thank You Airnav
guess it's time to look out for a SBS3.
-
John,
What happens when you press the map view button
Alan
-
John,
Can you also advise the path of your previous installation and the path of the new installation please.
Thanks
Alan
-
Mike,
Noted, still only 3 at this time

In my flights, when I click on the line of 477FF1 (C17 01 from Strategic Airlift Capability), the photos shown are for 01-0015, although 01-U381FMI8QQ.jpg is present in the Photo folder.
AE123A (04-4128), right now on the screen, shows the new photo :(
-
Ingo,
I have tried the Send Email Using Custom Server option as have others including users as detailed on the forum and this option is working OK. Could you look at your settings and ensure that all the boxes under the option are completed correctly as per your email configuration.
Alan
-
Thanks Liviu, logged for correction. The CH and PTTN fields are filled in when you download the photo. These field are not completed in my Navdata as I have not picked up the aircraft and downloaded the photo.
Alan

Hi,
The following bug does not seem to have been entirely fixed (at least for me):
"Aircraft not timing out"
I have attached an example. In the screenshot the SHTL6L flight does not seem to have timed out correctly and has 'run into' the next flight by that registration - SHT7Z.
Jon
-
Thanks again Jon, logged
Alan
-
Before making the upgrade or doing the full install save your mylog and for re-use once you have upgraded.
Alan
-
vonsmalhausen,
Your problem doesnt seem to be affecting others as no other users have been on reporting loosing their internet connection. The problem has been logged and will be looked into as soon as possible
Alan
-
"Aircraft not timing out"
I can see that too, with the flights originated from LROP which return after < ~3 hours.
-
Thanks Liviu
Alan
-
Hi all, well, for me this has been an absolute waste of time - deleted all ANRB files and references, then downloaded and installed V.5, but if I open RB now, I get Google Earth opening page, which offers 3D view, got to map and close 3D - all I get is a grey screen with the usual toolbar at the top, which isn't of any use to man nor beast. If I go into ANRB file nowhere can I find ANRB.exe I give up!
-
What does pressing map view button do John
Alan
-
Liviu,
These flight returning within 3 hours. Can you confirm that you mean the same aircraft with a different flight ID.
Alan

Same problem here, or some flights appear as time out on the map during all flight.
And one question: why some ground equipment with ads-b not shown on map ? with other ADS-B receiver i can see on the map such as MLAT equipment on the airport. On RB appear in the flights list only...
A good thing that I noticed after upgrade is that the airplanes are moving with much more fluency on the map than before .

MLAT is not a feature that's currently available in Radarbox.

These flight returning within 3 hours.
Yes. Example attached. Flights ROT703/ROT704.
LE. And another example with less than 3 hours between rotations (WZZ1LY/WZZ8JV)

One more thing about the photos.
3DD806 (343 EC-135) does not have any photos on A.net, but a photo of a MiG-23 of the East Germany's Air Force has been freshly dowloaded (as it is specified in the database):
LK: http://www.airliners.net/photo/East-Germany--/Mikoyan-Gurevich-MiG-23ML/2276305/L/
CH: 20131020070010
PTTN: 343-131GGMAZJL

Many thanks again Liviu.

Hi Liviu,
Thanks for bringing to my attention. I have went went through the database 2 or 3 times and changed all the military aircraft showing the wrong photo to correct ones or where there were none available i added the photo not available link. I can only suspect I missed this one, either that or the photo was added automatically by the system since the last time I checked. I have removed the spurious links and replaced them with photo unavailable and would suggest you remove the offending photos from your folder and delete the links in the Navdata or carry out an update tomorrow and the change will be in the downloaded Navdata
There are lots of military aircraft in the database without links and some spurious ones will be downloaded from time to time. There are too many aircraft in the databse for me to add photo links for each one which is liable to be downloaded wrongly.
Thanks again
Alan

Jon.
I had the same prob as you. ( I don't subscribe to 3D either). I downloaded all the google earth data then when my map screen appeared it was blank showing nothing at all even though the flight list was populating. I then hit the map view button and voila everything appeared on my map screen as it was in 4.03.
Hope that helps.

Yes. Example attached. Flights ROT703/ROT704.
LE. And another example with less than 3 hours between rotations (WZZ1LY/WZZ8JV)
Both of these look like correct behaviour to me. In the first example, YR-ATC changed FlightID sometime between 7:28am and 9:29am, and so RB started a new flight record when it first detected the new FlightID of ROT704. In the second example, HA-LWQ changed FlightID sometime between 13:17 and 14:30 to WZZ8JV. Remember, RB keeps the same FlightID until it receives the transmission of a new FlightID, which will typically be in response to a ModeS squitter from a base station.
Radarbox works to a 3 hour rule. If any ModeS message is receive for an aircraft within 3 hours of the START date/time, it is considered to be the same flight UNLESS the FlightID is different.

That makes no sense. Should be something like max 15 minutes.

That makes no sense. Should be something like max 15 minutes.
Noted, something for us to consider, and has been added to the task list.
-
I think 3 hours is too much.
See the private planes or helicopter, or military flights, with the same flightID all day, like register FlightID.
-
I think 3 hours is too much.
I agree.
And this is the first time I hear about the "3 hours" rule :(
-
Hi TommyG, Thanks for that, I thought I was on my own again. I still can't get any screen to display! Which do you call the "map view button"? I went into File - Database Explorer - Aircraft and only have 81800 entries whereas, before this wonderful V.5 it was something like 206,000! No, I'm still not very impressed!

Once you're up and running, you can use the Database Updates tab in Database Explorer to download and import the latest database.
Which do you call the "map view button"?
On the toolbar, top right, there are three buttons - 3D View / Map View / Split View. Click on the Map View button. If you can't find the Map View button, then do MENU - WINDOW - CLOSE ALL. Then do MENU - MAP - OPEN/SAVE - NEW MAP. The do MENU - WINDOW - RECORD DESKTOP.
-
Jon,
I have posted at least 2 messages on this thread suggesting you press the map view button, replies 108 and 121

How long did it stay like that before the registration and actype appeared in the list?

I hear of all these people having problems....I have not had one issue other then the radar rings not appearing. To me that's minor and will get fixed. Has anyone else had a smooth install like myself?

That's really good to hear. Hopefully there are many others happily using the new version without significant problems. I would expect any beta release to generate some errors, but hopefully not too many "show-stoppers". We've logged around 15 bugs on the Airnav internal task tracking system, and they'll all be looked at in due course. As an early beta tester it's always disappointing when you realise you missed a bug during early beta testing before public release, but some things do depend on local PC configuration and especially local Radarbox setup and reception conditions.
-
Hi Alan, I've quadruple checked the setting, temporaryly switched off all firewall/antivirus software. But custom mail is not working with my yahoo mail nor with my aol mail. I've setup sev eral mail configurations in my life and its not to difficult to do this.
enter user id, password (authorization required) set port, select ssl if needed (and it is needed with my accounts), enter smtp server, check in firewall if the selected port is valid/active for the used software. Until now it has alwas worked with the first shot (several smartphones, labtops with several different mail programs) I don't think that I'm doing something wrong. Maybe it's the combination or ANRB software itself.

I had similar problems as others upgrading so did a complete uninstall and then installed a complete new V5 therefore loosing all the personalization. Is there a simple way of replacing home data, map settings, etc. please?
Dave.
-
neroon79, can you post a screenshot of your settings (hide the sensitive bits) - Like this:
maybe it's the SSL bit that's a problem - I haven't tested with SSL.

I know that feeling...

Okay, I've logged it as a bug on the tracking system (FS#250).

It is necessary for me to use port 465 and SSL

Aerotower,
I note you are not connected to the Network, do you share?
Also under Preferances/Radarbox do you have Callsign and Squawk validation ticked, if so does unticking make any difference?
Alan

Yes Alan, I share data.
And I have ticked and unticked for some time and nothing.
And Auto Update Manually changed records is ticked.
And another thing

Thank you Tommy, Chris and Alan, I was looking for a Map View button under the "Map" heading, I hadn't even looked at the rest of the toolbar, I'm now up and running, just need to update the db. Sorry Alan, there's been so many replies on this topic, I hadn't read each one individually.
-
neroon79, thanks. Might be SSL related. Anyway, this is logged as a bug (FS#242), so will be looked at. In the meantime, continue to use the Airnav server for sending emails.
-
No worries Jon, just glad you are up and running.
Alan
-
Ingo,
I note on your email settings the under smtp.mail.yahoo.com you have a dot before mail. Is that a typo as I dont think it should be there.
Alan
-
Well, I thought I was up and running, obviously detecting some a/c, but nothing being displayed on the map, although reception lines expanding! Can't even see if I've got network working or not........
I'm giving up for tonight, and watching the box instead - enough frustration!
-
Jon,
Check that on the network page, Get flights from network, bottom left of the grid is ticked.
Alan

Hi Dave,
Unfortunately nor, as its an new install you will need to start again, fortunately it doesnt take long to set up the screen the way you want it.
Alan
-
"My Log" and/or "Reporter" window and sub-windows do not remember size and position between ANRB.exe program sessions.
PS. Note that they never did it, but maybe they should.
-
smtp.mail.yahoo.com is correct, as it is copied from Yahoo website and working with my mail program(s).
Ingo
-
Ingo, have you tried port 25?
-
Hi Ingo,
Just wondered as my ISP doesnt have the smtp or the dot just mail.btinternet.com so thought it was worthwhile trying without it.
-
I tried all ports and ssl non ssl combinations, as far as it was possible or supported by my mail providers. Maybe I look for another freemail provider that is allowing ssl free comunication to figure out if the problem is indeed ssl related.
Ingo
-
neroon79, I've now confirmed this is an SSL problem. I re-configured my email account to use SSL, and whilst I can send okay with SSL from Outlook, sending with SSL from Radarbox fails. So, an SSL problem.

Hi Guys;
I would just like to mention that, being a computer thicky, I updated the program an hour ago and apart from being surprised upon launching the program and seeing Google Earth instead of a map, within seconds I saw the toolbar with map view and was delighted to find pretty much everything working the way I like it as in the previous version! I have one minor question though, I read in this thread that I could manually input my own photos when they are missing, especially when I am sat in Lagos not many of the local carriers pop up with recent pics. How do I manually insert a pic? I assume that by inserting a pic, it would be for my system only? It would be nice to have them uploaded to the network but I assume that wouldn't happen? Hope you don't mind me asking here.
kind regards clive.
-
Hi Clive,
Unfortunately the photos would be for your eyes only.
You would require to make them size 200x134 and name them the registration.jpg and place them in the data/photo folder. A second phot would be registration,2.jpg
They should then should show next time you pick them up. You may also have to add the registration in the PTTN/PTTN2 field via d/b explorer,

After upgrade I noticed less airplane on the map then before. Or on Flight list are ADS-B airplanes but not shown on the map. Also range has diminished in some areas. I also noticed that if I set the time out flight less than 4 sec. all airplanes on the map looks like time out flights.
-
Thanks for testing tarbat. Maybe I'll look for an SSL free mail provider. On the other hand, if sending by using the airnav server is working with a much higher reliability as in V4, I won't need a custom mail...

Have downloaded 5044 and 47 with no problems, however tonight after my box had been running just under 4 hours I got an 'access violation with anrb.exe' error and the box shut down. I have restarted it and it is working normally again. so no idea what caused the fault.

Well, with some help from Alan, Tommy and others asking questions, I've now got V.5 installed and running - but with apparently 20% or so less A/C showing than normal, but could this be due to the lovely weather we're experiencing at the moment. It has taken several days, and multiple deletions and installs, but slowly getting there.
However, I still have one major problem, although I've gone through the updating Database process, I've still only got 80317 A/C loading in the D/B - any suggestions please.................
-

Firstly, did you use the Database Update option in Database Explorer? Secondly, did you follow the instructions to restart Radarbox?
-
I might have overlooked it, but I've got one question about the database:
In the database what does the autoupdate (Y) mean? Does it mean, the big online Airnav database can overrule my personal database? Let's say I got flight XYZ1234. Official routing is AAAA-BBBB-CCCC-DDDD, but I want the route displayed as BBBB-CCCC-DDDD. In the online Airnav database the routing is displayed as AAAA-CCCC-DDDD. When I thick Y in autoupdate, does the online database changes the routing to AAAA-CCCC-DDDD iso the route I want to show it? So when I thick N at autoupdate, the online database won't correct my personal database and leaves it as BBBB-CCCC-DDDD?
Regards,
Michel.
-
Michel, correct. Set AUTOUPDATE to N to stop your manually changed record from being updated by the system.
-
Thanks Tarbat. In that case I have to change a lot of Y in N ;-)
-
Alternatively Michel, advise me what needs changed and I can update the database.
Alan
-
Michel, or turn off Route Auto-populate in preferences.
-
Next week after the start of the winter schedule, you can find me in your database update topic again, Alan. ;-)
-
I know Tarbat, but when I turn it off I won't discover any mistakes or missing flight ID's in the official database. And I wan't to continu my help to get the official database as correctly as possible.
And for some reason when I turn it off, Airnav won't find some flight ID's in my personal database. At this moment SAS556 won't show it's routing EHAM-ESSA, while the correct routing is in my database.
-
I am looking forwards to Sunday Michel, not!!! Your assistance would be greatly appreciated as always.
Alan
-
Give me a few days and I've got most of the EZY, DLH, etc in and out of EHAM for you.

Thanks Michel that will be great, I have the BAW, BEE, BER, NLY, BHP updates getting processed ready for changing in the d/b

Hi Chris,
No I hadn't, never updated that way before, usually just click on the Update D/B address in Orkney's post, so tried that way and now got 207639 A/C, so am now a rather happy chappy. Many thanks to all who've helped me get this far!
-
Now what have I done, tried to set up auto start but get this,
-
anorak, are you sure you've setup the autostart to the correct folder? And the correct "Start In" folder? rb.dll should exist in you main Radarbox folder.

More photo problems; 4CA294 - EI-DEN. I have photos from v4, and also photos from v5 with the random code after the filenames - all thse photos are doubling up, which is a pain.
Further, none of these photos are showing in the grid. The photo links in the database are correct, linking to the proper photos in Airliners. The only thing odd about the plane is that it's using a wrong Flight ID - EHN176.
Any ideas?
EDIT - deleted the record from the database, did a second database update for today, and restarted - now the photos are appearing - odd.
Rod
-
Rod, I've three tasks open with AirNav relating to photo problems. These examples all help to reinforce the points I'm making about the changes that are needed. Thanks.
When you say "the grid", do you mean MyLog?
-
No - the interface grid - MyFlights and Network - I didn't check MyLog, but the photos are showing in MyLog now - see the edit to my prevoius post.
Rod
-
Rod, do you know what was in the PTTN & PTTN2 fields for the aircraft in Database Explorer? That's what currently determines the photos that get displayed in MyFlights.
-
Tarbat - I didn't make a note, but, because they both worked when I copied and pasted them into my browser, I've got them from my browser history. They are:
http://www.airliners.net/photo/Aer-Lingus/Airbus-A320-214/2262166/L
http://www.airliners.net/photo/Aer-Lingus/Airbus-A320-214/2314870/L/
Rod
-
Those are the LK and LK2 fields - that's not where the thumbnails are retrieved from. Anyway, don't worry, AirNav have agreed to my changes which should, I hope, fix the various thumbnail photo problems.
-
yesterday evening, before shutting down RB, I did a update on the database, just now I wanted to work on the DB to alter some more PTTN entries to my own pics ....... PTTN and CS fields are blank now
does this mean we are back to the "good old" system for showing pics, or does this mean that everytime after a update, the fields will be blank ?
can't check it out myself now, as I have to go working now
edit ; I already had altered some entries yesterday, but they seems to be gone also, I have settings set to not modifie my own data, so why are they gone ?
-
Did you set the AUTOUPDATE field to "N" for each record you updated?
And note, as already stated, I'm aware of some problems with how photos work, I've submitted request to AirNav to change how this works, it's been approved, so will hopefully be in the next beta. The intention with the proposed changes is that photos will be displayed according the following rules:
1. If PTTN has a value in it, use that thumbnail file name. Ditto for PTTN2.
2. Otherwise, use the old style file name - eg, for G-EZYA, file names G-EZYA.jpg & G-EZYA,2.jpg
3. Otherwise, NO PHOTO. However, if displaying in MyLog screen, search photo folder for any photo file with a name that starts with the aircraft registration.
We're trying to cover all eventualities here, with users having saved their own photos over the years, and some aircraft sharing the same registration, etc................
-
no, they where still on "Y"
as I have the settings in preferences set to not change manually altered data, I thought that would have be enough
-
did noted that, and hope we get a Beta update soon
-
The only way Radarbox knows that you've manually updated a record is if you set the AUTOUPDATE field to "N".
-
just did a quick check again in the DB ( now with the box connected ) ; the PTTN fields are populating again, with the (for me) wrong pictures, but all the changes I made yesterday are gone
will think about that autoupdate field next time
do I hope we soon get a new Beta, where all this is no longer necessary
now I really have to go ;-)

All islands (Waddeneilanden) in front of the Dutch coast have disappeared on the map (Normal view). Why ?

All islands (Waddeneilanden) in front of the Dutch coast have disappeared on the map (Normal view). Why ?
A screenshot might help, as my geography may be wrong. Do you mean these?
I think these are in an outline file in the outlines folder. Did you have these previously?
-
Tarbat,
Those are indeed the "Waddeneilanden" Same for "Zeeland", the two island left below EHRD on your screenshot.
Michel.
-
Btw, is it just me or does Radarbox has some problems showings flight ID starting with a 0? In version 3.13 you had to skip the 0 from the flight ID in the d/b to show the correct route on the map, but in 5.00.47 the map won't show the correct routing.
Right now I'm picking up CAL066 (EHAM-VTBS-RCTP). In my d/b this one is entered as CAL66, and version 3.13 did show the correct routing on the map. But version 5.00.47 doesn't show the route at all.
I've had the same problem with several ETD flights the last few days as well.
Michel.
-
The Dutch islands are in the COAST_HR_Belgium.out outline file done by Bones for SBS many years ago.
Probably best not to publish it on the forum. If anyone needs it, PM me.
Rod
-
Hi Michel,
I have noted this as well and have advised Airnav. There must be a problem with the server routine and not the RB software as it should disregard the leading zero and show the route.
Alan
-
Hi, I guess Rod Bearden gave the answer to my question (Reply 204).BTW I think it's a great update, you all have done a nice job
Regards, Frank
-
Michel,
Regarding route with leading zero not showing flight ID, this has been logged as a bug, FS264
Alan

While trying to spread the software over to monitors, errors were generated repeatingly. It took a restart of the computer to be able to spread the ANRB Window over two monitors again.
Until now I wasn't able to get a realistic hight vision in 3D Mode if Pilots View or top-down view is chosen. I expected this to be solved by a simple ticking/unticking a box named show correct hight in 3D mode and not using some annoying toying with some offsets. The airframes deliver a hight and this hight shall be applied to the virtual camera in 3D mode. It can't be to complicated to programm it if I'm not totally wrong.
Ingo
-
After using the search function with blank result I entereds an airframe reg that is in the db, but the search didn't deliver a search result. After hitting show all and looking up the same reg, the airframe was found.
Ingo
-
Hi Ingo,
Following receipt of your reply I have tried the search function on the aircraft table and I have looked up 10 aircraft taken at random from the network display and all have been found. I have not pressed the show all button
Similarly opening up mylog opens at todays flights as it always has done.
Alan
-
Ingo, when I tested the fix for 3D altitude the values looked correct to me, so I'm surprised you're still seeing problems. I've looked back through my testing log, and once the programmer made the changes I observed:
Chris : 9 Sep 2013 : Tested thoroughly, and this now appears to be working correctly. Checking the object altitudes in Google Earth via. the GE port shows aircraft flying at the correct altitude in 3D space. For example, ICE503 showing as flying at 39025ft in MyFlights, and the object in Google Earth has an altitude of 11895m.
You can see I even went to the trouble of checking the actual values being passes to the GE Plugin. Can you capture an example of the wrong altitude in 3D and post a screenshot. I can't test in 3D at the moment.
-
Hi Alan,
I did the search again, and now it works. But when I posted the mishap it was reproduceable. Don't know what has caused it. These are the worst mistakes/errors that can happen: Comming and goinig without identifying the original cause.
Hi tarbat:
I enabled pilots view and was reading the alt in myflights list. As the airframe was flying over my house, the vision doesn't look right (much too high) so I noted the alt in ft re-calculated it to metres and went to GE. The area visible in Radarbox seems to be about ten times to high. Will wait until next EDDV arrival an taking some screenshots to proof.
Ingo
-
Ingo, if you're familiar with Google Earth, you can test this for yourself, by setting up a NETWORK LINK in GE containing:
http://localhost:7895/AircraftHW.kmz
You can then see the actual altitudes being assigned to each aircraft in GE 3D space. Maybe what you're observing is a FOV vs ZOOM effect?
-
I think this a little more then a FOV versus ZOOM effect...
The area seen by GE plugin (PIC1 GE Plugin RB sw) and in GE itself (PIC3-4 in GE at same hight and aprox. same tilt angle) aren't even close to match up for the hight of 3385ft (1031m).
Maybe there is some kind of difference in handling of data and/or view calculation / display between the GE plug-in used in ANRB and GE itself.
Ingo
-
Addition:
Although I must admit, that it is already much better then in V4.03.
With GE plugin in RB software it's a little bit like looking through a wide angle lens.
Ingo
-
Ingo, as I say, I can't test at the moment because I'm waiting for Airnav to re-enable my 3D access (it was turned off to test something else). As soon as I've got 3D access back, I'll check this. If you're able to setup the NETWORK LINK in GE I suggested you should be able to verify that the correct aircraft altitudes are being passed to the GE plugin.
-
Yes, I was able to check the altitudes in GE. An they are indeed correct (despite the usual rounding errors). And i temporaryly switched back to V4 on the other machine and used pilots view there too. Comparing the two, the view in/under V5 is indeed much better. But somehow the view is different to GE.
And: Latidude, Longitude are shown correctly, but altitude is shown as (see picture). I guess this counts as a real problem.
-
Ingo,
3D was changed because a user complained that he didnt like the view we had been using previously and requested that it be changed to show the correct altitude. http://www.airnavsystems.com/forum/index.php?topic=5238.0
Alan
-
I didn't like the previous view either and from my point of view it's already much better then in V4, but there is still a little missmatch between GE plugin view and GE. If using GE plugin in V5 it still seems, that the "view altitude" is a little to high and the field of view a little to big (like looking through a wide angle lens).
To be clear: It's complaining at a very high level of satisfaction. I'll be able to live with the current view, what wasn't the case with V4. But maybe it's possible to squeeze it a little bit more...
Ingo
-
When I chatted with the developer whilst we were fixing the previous bug (feet instead of metres) it was apparent that he was working within the limitations of the GE plugin, which has limited options (eg tilt angle restrictions, FOV, etc.). I think we now have a 3D view that accurately puts the aircraft in 3D space, but has to work within the limitations of the GE plugin.
-
Hi Tarbat,
Sorry for the late response. The Dutch islands (Waddeneilanden) and most Zeeuwse Islands are not in the standard outline files supplied bij Airnav. As Rod Bearden (reply204) kindly has mentioned, you have to download third party software to make them visible. This is not an Airnav 5.0 issue, it has been an issue all the time. These islands (for example the island of Texel with the local airport EHTX is floating around in the Northsea, the island is missing) were never there on the base map over the years. In fact around 15% of The Netherlands was never there on these maps. Odd, and a bit of a bother, or Airnav is way ahead of time... (I know I can make use of OpenStreetMap/Satellite layers, but this is not my issue....)
Frank
-
Frank, thanks for confirming this isn't a v5 issue. Yes, the standard mapping is basic, but can be enhanced with downloaded outline files or OSM.
-
Finally got a break from beta testing, so thought I'd have a go at comparing 3D views in ANRB compared to Google Earth. Look pretty similar to me, albeit with a small time delay between the two screenshots:

Just upgraded my HP Laptop to Windows 8.1 - Then upgraded from 4.3 to 5.044 - Had to use the windows advanced start up option to disable driver signature enforcement to load the 64 bit drivers but they loaded fine - applied the 5.047 patch and it upgraded and it appears to be running fine
-
Hi Alan, Chris and AN,
Having successfully (eventually with help) got V.5.00.44 up and running a few days ago, I agree with previous comments that the sensitivity and numbers of A/C are definitely down by 25 - 35% - although I can't understand why a software change would affect sensitivity, unless it requires significant additional data to function accurately. Who else is experiencing this problem, or is it because of the inclement weather affecting our RBs? I'm on Windows 7 - 64 bit.
-
Thanks about reminding me about using windows advance start up. I have now done the same and i am working on windows 8.1
-
On starting RB I get RB1 not found, is this just me being a numpty or is there some other issue as loading takes for ever?
Dave.
-
That means that it hasnt found your box.
Alan
-
Thats what I thought, but why does it still work?
-
You sure it wasnt RB2?

Sorry to harp on about this again, has anyone else noticed the significant drop in numbers on the network, or are numbers down due to the weather, or something just as simple as fewer boxes being on and contributing.

Or a change to the winter schedules !

Ah yes, the clocks went back to GMT last weekend, so you've probably hit the nail on the head EK01 - thanks for the suggestion!!

The "My Log" used to change date at midnight automatically. Now with version 5.00.053, I find that I have to click on the calendars and change the dates manually. Then click on "Today" to refresh. Is this a bug ? I am using Windows 7 64 bit.

John,
I dont know how it did things previously but if you close down mylog and open again up after 00:00 it changes.
I would suggest that it is working as designed as you opened it up for a particular day and it should'nt change day unless you request it to.
