Hi all.
I seem to be having the old "ANRB NOT RESPONDING" error. Any ideas how best to install onto Vista Premium please.
Have tried uninstall and re-install with v3.01 beta and still same error.

I have been running the RB on Vista for a few months.The only problem I have is when running the RB & surfing at the same time.If I quit surfing it takes the RB down with it.
As far as your problem is concerned do you have the User Account Controls on or off. If they are on turn them off in Control Panel> Users.

Best advice is to install ANRB in a separate folder instead of accepting the default folder location. That will avoid all the Virtual Store problems. Use something like C:\AirNav Systems
Then make sure you have an exception setup in your virus scanning for this folder. I use this exception in MSE:

I wouldn't advise turning off UAC. Just make sure that you give your Vista user account admin privileges.

Still getting the same problem. It will run ok then all of a sudden it will stop working. I am getting rather annoyed with it now.

I was hoping v3.06 would sort this out.

When you say stop working, do you mean that it loses contact with the hardware? I have seen that a few times, but basically I've been running 2.01, 3.01 and 3.06 under Vista Home Premium since January and not had any real problems beyond the known issues. I have an installation outside the virtual store and have an AVG exception for the Airnav directory tree.
I take it you've been and altered the power settings to avoid USB ports going to sleep?

Out of general interest, what is the big problem with accepting the default location for Windows Vista ? It's just that it seems frowned upon but I really can't work out why.
Been using RB since January 2009 and have always accepted the default location for each upgrade I have done and have never had any problems with running the application. I am not running the Beta version.

It just complicates things. If you install in C:\Program Files in Vista, then anything that Radarbox updates, such as the database, photos, etc. gets put in the Virtual Store.
This then confuses people when they want to backup their databases, or change outlines, logos, flags, silhouettes, etc.
I've lost count of the number of threads where I've had to explain Vista's Virtual Store to people who are trying to backup/restore databases, update outlines, etc.
Radarbox runs okay under Vista in C:\Program Files, but it's easier if you install elsewhere.

I have thought about changing the install location when the next release comes out of beta but one final question if you don't mind - if I installed to a directory outside the virtual store would I have to re-install drivers or would it be sufficient to direct the software towards the new directory path ?

I still keep getting "ANRB NOT RESPONDING" error. It seems to run fine then all of a sudden thats the error i get.
I am running an HP Laptop with AMD Athlon x2 Dual Core QL-62 2.00Ghz with 3GB RAM Fully up to date Windows Vista Premium.
Airnav installed to c:\AirNav Systems. Turned off UAC
Have Kaspersky running but have given Airnav permission.
So i am at a loss.

Thanks very much. Will use a non virtual store location when the upgrade comes out of beta. I have to admit I find it difficult to find the two database files mylog and navdata as I don't seem to have the appdata directory in the virtual store path.

I have all my programs in a C:/Mikes Toys directory (ANRB, PP, SBS) and all works very well. I have also told my Eset fire wall to allow an exception for virus checking "My Toys" which allows then all to load up quicker.

Hi all.
OK I tried running with ANRB in Win XP compatability mode. Guess what.
Running for 10 mins until i opened Internet Explorer the wham bam "ANRB NOT RESPONDING" error.

Why? ANRB doesn't need XP compatability mode.
On my Vista Home Premium system, it runs fine in normal Vista mode. No need for compatability mode, no need to run as Administrator, no need to turn off UAC, etc.

I think he's trying to show that this does not happen under Vista itself, but then without knowing how close to XP functionality the compatibility mode is it's hard to be sure what is happening.

I don't know how you do it. Ever since i bought my 1st ANRB i have always had the same problem. 3 Laptops later and about 4 ANRB boxes later i still have the same problem.
I always have MS Office 2007, Adobe reader, ADU, WXTrack, Flash FXP, Roxio Creator, Adobe Photoshop, some scanner programming software, Shipplotter, SnagiT, PCTools Desktop Maestro and Kaspersky Internet Security.
The Kaspersky is a new one for me as i usually use AVG.
So i must be the only one still having this age old ERROR.

I don't know how you do it.
I wish I knew as well!! I run a lot of beta software on my PC, and Radarbox has been one of the least problematic.

I run many programs too. I am a Radio Ham and enjoy decoding stuff but all that has been uninstalled. I have stax of scanner programming software running. Even tried uninstalling them.
I keep everything fully up to date via Windows and Microsoft Update.
Anyway I just guess i will have to put up with it.
Problem is that i keep putting up with it then decide to sell it and buy the SBS-1e
As i have no problems at all with that.

Hi again. Uninstalled ANRB v3.06 - Downloaded full version of 3.07 and re-installed.
Working for 10 minutes then run Internet explorer v8 and guess what. Yes
"ANRB NOT RESPONDING" error.
Please see the picture. Shows the problem, maybe you can understand it.

Can you run internet explorer (no addons) - this will be in your start menu under acceserioes and then system tools, with 3.07 and see whether that works.

A failure in ntdll.dll suggests a problem when calling a windows kernel function.

OK I closed Explorer. Re-opened it then run 3.07. So far so good.
Going to close IE8 and try opening IE8 again. If still OK I will open OUTLOOK 2007 as that seems another point when ANRB errors out.

Are you running it with the no addons. We would assume 50% of customers would be using i.e 8 at the same time as RadarBox so we think it could be one off those addons which is causing something.

I am not sure about addons. Can you give examples please as far as I know I have none.

Can you run internet explorer (no addons) -
Start menu -> then under acceserioes and then system tools you should fine internet explorer (no addons). Run that instead of the i.e 8 your running and tell us if you have issues with RadarBox.

Reading that, my money would be on a device driver. It's the same ntdll.dll version that I have, 1,204,224 bytes, 10th April 2009 23:27 on the details tab of the properties dialog box.
I have tried opening IE8 with add-ons and RB just carries on going.

OK folks. I think at last I have it.
My HP laptop has some HP Security system monitoring. It seems to monitor the Bios and can also scramble the HD.
I uninstalled it and so far so good. Airnav running 100% for the past 6 hours.

Hi all. I have been running ANRB on Vista 32bit for over 12 months with no problems. However I have another laptop with Vista 64bit on. I can load the software ok, but I cannot get the device driver to load. I get error 30. Anybody got any ideas? thanks in advance.

It's not a signed driver, so you need to tell it not to require drivers to be signed.
In the slightly longer term Airnav are waiting for Microsoft to send them signed drivers for 64 bit Windows, however it's not a quick process. You can use something to turn off driver signing like EasyBCD.

Hi all.
OK folks i have found the culprit for all the problems with Airnav shutting down.
I thought it was the HP Security software but it is a program i use for cleaning the computer. PC Tools Desktop Maestro.
It scans and cleans the registry and also gets rid of the dead wood surfing collects. So i would appear that it must do something to the registry of ANRB. I noticed as soon as i run it then run ANRB as soon as i select IE8 then ANRB stops working.
I uninstalled Desktop Maestro and re-installed ANRB and ANRB running perfectly.
So question Please AirNav Support?
Is there any registry cleaner and internet cleaner that will work with ANRB please?

We don't know, we are not sure why its touching RBs registry details in the first place. How does it determine its not needed.

Presumably you could export the ANRB registry section, then run the cleaner and export again and compare the results.
If it doesn't touch the ANRB registry then it must do something to the IE8 settings, I'll bet those are well documented....<cough>....

I use the free CCleaner with XP on my PC's - run manually every now and then and it does't affect the RB installation.

I have used IE8 before and what a load of rubbish, I went back to using IE7.
I also use Ashampoo WinOptimizer 6 for my cleaning and this has not affected the RB installation, this is at a very small cost, think it is about £12.
