Title: 4R-ADE
Post by: CoastGuardJon on July 31, 2012, 08:47:41 PM
Can anyone tell me why 4R-ADE Sri Lanka Airlines A343 is populating with what appears to be an inverted India flag symbol rather than the correct Sri Lankan flag?   It's bad enough that our own nation Union flag is so often flown upside down, by the ignorant, a sign of distress!

The flag relates to the hex code sequence.  In the case of 4R-ADE it is actually miscoding and transmitting an Iranian sequence Hex from the aircraft.  Therefore the software decodes that and displays an Iranian flag.  If you look at the entry in mylog for 4R-ADE you will see in the ModeS Country field it shows "Iran" (Iran hexes include the 734*** series) and in the Airline field it says "SriLankan Airlines (Miscode allocated 774200)".  If the aircraft transponder was  reprogrammed to send the correct allocated Sri Lankan code of 774200, radarbox software would then display the Sri Lankan flag.

Hi ACW367, many thanks for that information - makes some sense now.
