Post by: davjhedges on December 14, 2008, 07:29:15 PM
considering buying one of these gadgets, location chinnor s.oxon, would i get reasonable coverage of Heathrow [25 miles] etc out of the box, without  a third party aerial on the roof apex?eg with default antenna placed on south facing downstairs windowsill.thx.i have read some of the threads on aerials.

Hi there and welcome to the forum!

You would get reasonable coverage of Heathrow traffic, and all the other traffic in and above the London area.  You wouldn't see aircraft down to touchdown at Heathrow using your antenna, but there are people close enough who are sharing data if you run RadarBox with an Internet connection.  Just what exactly your live coverage will be is impossible to predict.  Moving the antenna 6 inches left/right or up/down can make a difference, so it's a case of experimenting with the position which is half of the fun :-)

Maybe there is somebody here on the forum who lives close enough to you to give a better idea of coverage?

The link below shows RB with a default antenna.

That should give you an idea on what to expect.
