Unable to see VLM flights
« on: January 13, 2009, 07:35:05 PM »
Just got the AirNav last weekend and got it 95% sorted & working. I cannot track or find VLM airlines. The operate quite a few flights from London City to Belgium & Holland (and others) anyone any ideas - don't they transmit or do they use a unusual look up code etc. I've tried the listed code from ICAO but to no avail.

I have got eleven of their nineteen Fokker 50 aircraft in my MyLog.

Perhaps you have just been unlucky so far.

As they are old aircraft I can't imagine that they will transmit ADS-B, however.

Hi Dean, welcome to the forum :-)

There is a chance that these aircraft don't transmit the full ADS-B information and therefore they will only appear in the aircraft list and not on the map.  This will almost certainly mean that they also don't transmit a callsign.  With no callsign, you won't get a VLM logo - but that doesn't mean that you are not picking them up!

Take a look at this page on the www.airframes.org website.  It shows the whole VLM fleet:

http://www.airframes.org/fleet/vlm

You will notice that all the registrations (execpt one) start with OO-VL.  Why not set up your allerts as follows:

G-BPNT
OO-VL*

You could also enter these details into the Fleet Watch settings to track the VLM fleet :-)

Also, open MyLog and do a search for Registration = OO-VL* and see what comes up.

It may be that they do transmit a callsign, but the bug in Radarbox prevents it being processed/displayed - see the bug at http://www.airnavsystems.com/forum/index.php?topic=1372.0

This bug is supposed to be fixed in the forthcoming v2.10 software, due end of this month, so it may only be a short-term problem.

Thanks for the replies. Had a look in the My Log and they are there but clearly don't send the appropriate codes to get mapped.

Correct - I've logged around 36,000 VLM flights over the past 3 years, and the only time I've ever seen one on the map was a few weeks ago when they leased in RJ85 EI-RJS from CityJet to fly a single LCY/AMS rotation.
