Before i buy
« on: June 21, 2008, 10:13:09 PM »
hey guys...before i buy i just want to understand about atc.

Can you listen to atc with the airnav radar box or do i need other hardware/software?

If you do listen to atc through the airnav radar box. can you listen to any atc around the world or is it only your local area or main areas such as new york and london?

can i only see flights in my local area or because of the network thing (which i have to pay for) i can see world flight?

if i dont want to pay the network fee after my free year can i still see flights in my local area? and if so what range?

thanks

Hi rosserluke,

1.) You can't listen to ATC via RadarBox. RadarBox is only for receieving ADS-B signals from aircraft. If you want ATC best to get a scanner as well.

2.) Yes, you can choose to switch off network flights (its free in the first year anyway)

3.) Yes you will only see local flights. Range is dependant on your local setup as it depends whether you have lots of hills in your way and where your antenna is placed. Having said that even with bad setups you should be able to get at least 30 miles direction. Give us more information about your location and we can give you a better answer to that.

Hope that helps.

Hi Rosserluke,

Take a look at the FAQ here:

http://www.airnavsystems.com/forum/index.php?board=2.0

and in particular here:

http://www.airnavsystems.com/forum/index.php?topic=665.0

That should answer most of your questions.  There are only 2 options here, the Kinetic SBS-1 or the AirNav RadarBox.  I've had an SBS-1 for 2 years now and a RadarBox for one year.  I haven't used the SBS-1 for months, in fact I've hardly used it at all since I got my RadarBox.  The RadarBox Network really makes the difference as you will see if you get one.

Why don't you download the RadarBox software and play a recording to see how the software works.  It's available on the AirNav main website at www.airnavsystems.com in the RadarBox section. See here:

You can download a couple of recordings of live traffic from here:

All the best
