Azores

(1/1)

pdsousa:
Hi,

On Jan 11th I got out of work and jumped into a car with a friend of mine. Half hour later we were at Serra da Barrosa in São Miguel island (Azores), about 3000ft high. About 0ºC at the top and having a weekend dinner of McDonalds... crazy people.
The expected traffic was some local and inbound/outbound flights to the mainland, including to other islands. I was not expecting at that time of the day (20-23Z) the america-europe traffic.

Here's the result...
AEA051 poped up at 238NM and went off 192NM.
TCX86K was spotted two times at 287NM!!!
TAP1828 left at 212NM.
And all the others were visible to a range of about 200NM. I even was able to see TAP1827 landing at Lajes at 925ft (98NM away).

It was a great first experience!

All the screenshots were taken afterwards at home, as I was only recording the sessions and not worried about taking pictures.

Take care!
Pedro Sousa

Marinus:
Hiya Guys,

I think it would make the founder of the Airnav software very proud
to see folks from the Azores using software that he initially developed
for his hobby (tracking aircraft), if I remember well he has family at the
Azores and he once told me he dreamed of once becoming a pilot at
Sata Airlines, well he forfilled his dreams and the last I've heard he
is flying for Emirates as a F/O.

Thx Andre for giving us this  lovely tools to work with, and to you guys at
the Azores good luck logging at those distances....
By the way, I loved to listen too Santa Maria in the night hours when all those planes
cross the pond !!

Greetings from the Netherlands,

Marinus.
