Hello to all of you !
Please can you help me in order to activate the MLAT for my EXTRPI feeder ?
I have specified the exact GPS coordinates and altitude above ground using the "See instructions" link in the stats page but the MLAT is still inactive.
How to check if the MLAT client is installed ?
Once again thank you very much in advance for your kind help.
Regards.
-
If it is installed it will state MLAT active on the status. What is your station number
Try run "apt-get update -y; apt-get install mlat-client -y; reboot" then setup the Lon and Lat in your station id profile and then will be MLAT ready
Alan
-
Hello Runway31 and thanks for your help.
I followed your instructions but got an error message and could not make it installed.
I am not a linux expert at all and maybe this is due to an old package distribution.
Please see the logs enclosed...
Do you have any clue what to do ?
Regards.
-
Means nothing to me. just gave advice given on another thread which installed the MLAT.. Jessie maybe an old package that doesn't work with that.
Maybe a Linux guru will pass by with some advice
Alan
-
Ok thanks again and well noted.
Maybe a linux guru will show !
As you said Jessie is old.
Regards.
-
Is PGANRB500405 also your station?
Alan
-
Yes it is mine !
It is working fine as it is an Xrange2.
I just had to specifiy the coordinates.
As you said let's hope a linux guru will show !
Thanks
-
I see that MLAT is available on it now
Alan
-
Yes indeed for my Xrange2 (PGANRB feeder), MLAT is now working fine !
But for my Pi (EXTRPI Feeder) it is still not working.
As you said I have an old debian version...

Hello I am trying as well to install MLAT on one of my xRange devices. I followed the procedure and when I run the "apt-get install mlat-client -y" command it says that the version installed is the last one. I have also mlat-autostart=True in rbfeeder settings.
In the status page, however, MLAT is always off and Mlat Autostart is also off!
Any suggestion?
Thank you
-
Edit your location using the exact lat/lon for MLAT. Failing that contact [email protected] and ask them to have it upgrade to MLAT
I note that PGANRB300389 has been offline for a year??
Alan
-
Hei thank you for the quick reply!
Lat and Lon are correct, and the device is offline because I am not sharing the data but I am using them internally to feed a private system.
I am trying to set up a server (mutability) and connect the 4 xranges I have. Apparently I am not able to do so because maybe I am missing something in the configuration of the device...
-
Are these your own bought units?
Alan
-
Yes they are!
-
I would have thought that they would require to be on the Airnav or other operators network to have the MLAT to operate as the MLAT calculations are carried out on the server software not on the unit. However but I know nothing abut Pi configutation
Alan
-
If you have Raspbian Jessie, it is too old. Please upgrade to Stretch or Buster.
Output of these commands will show your Raspbian version
lsb_release -sc
cat /etc/os-release
For detailed instructions for enabling MLAT on RPi, please see this post:

-
You were right. My version is jessie. Thank you very much for the hint.

Can I update it on my own? Any warranty issue?
-
abcd Will installing the MLAT client be any use if the receiver is not connected to the Radarbox server
Giacomo Regarding warranty the only ones who can answer that are Airnav
Alan
-
Update on my situation: now I have an xRange2 with MLAT active!
Did anyone ever tried to connect to the MLAT mutability server with the xRange? Without feeding radarbox24?
-
As the MLAT software is on the Radarbox server and all the calculations to enable MLAT are carried out there I don't see how you can
For you to have MLAT on your own using only your own receivers not connected to the Airnav server you would need your own MLAT software on your server

I have MLAT running for FA and I believe it is porting to RB, but I am only seeing MLAT aircraft on RB without positions and I don't see "MLAT activated" or anything like that on my station web display. I have the correct lat/long in the config file but maybe I am missing something.
I had it working before but my SC card went about a week ago and had to re-install from scratch.
Any ideas what is missing in my config? Tnx..
-
Yes you are feeding RB24 OK https://www.radarbox24.com/stations/EXTRPI004730
Unfortunately I know nothing regarding Pi's so I cant help with your MLAT query. Hopefully abcd will be along to assist.
Have you tried editing your location exact lat/lon via edit next to your location on your status
Alan
-
Yes I input my lat/long in the "edit position" in DD.dddd format. Wondering if that is the issue should be DD,MM,SS or DD,MM.mm? Will try DD,MM.mmm and see what happens. Also a "-" in front of longitude for west of prime meridian.
According to the zoomed-in map it should be accurate, or at least within 20m I would guess.
..
-
Decimal lat/lon and - before the lon
Alan
-
EXTRPI004730
Your site shows mlat is NOT activated.
To activate MLAT you have to do following two things
(1) Add your location:
Latitude like 49.5615
Longitude like -97.1543
(above figures are only example, use your actual latitude & longitude values)
(2) Install mlat-client:
sudo apt-get install mlat-client
-
Still no go. Tried to build and install mlat client but still no go. Coordinates are good. Must be another issue somewhere... maybe I'll have to remove the RB feeder and re-install...
update:
Found the fix on the FA forum tnx @abcd567!

update:
Found the fix on the FA forum tnx @abcd567!
I have posted many fixes for RB Mlat on FA forum, each for a different problem. Can you please provide the link to my FA post where you found the fix, or copy the fix here? This will benefit many others having same issue. Thanks.

Hi all, is it possible to setup MLAT using the radarbax flightstick ?
Im currently setup & sharing ( around 12 months )
station# EXTSHA195185
Any idiots guide would be fantastic
thanks in advance
-
You can I believe as long as your Flightstick is connected to a Pi, you cant if plugged into a Windows computer
Alan
-
@aps
Station numbers starting with:
EXTSHA are Windows Feeder
EXTRPI are RPi Feeder
As your station number is EXTSHA195185, you are Windows Feeder, and as Alan has already told, you cannot have MLAT activated.

I AM ALSO HAVING AN ISSUE WITH THE MLAT ON THE XRANGE2 RECEIVER.
SHOWS AUTO START MLAT ON IN THE SETTINGS BUT SAYS MLAT INACTIVE ON MY MAP SCREEN,TRIED ENTERING LAT AND LONG,TRIED WITH STREET.
HAVE NO ISSUES ENTERING THE INFO THE UNIT SEEMS TO TAKE IT,BUT STILL SHOWS MLAT INACTIVE SEE INSTRUCTIONS.
UNIT ID IS-PGANRB501521.
-
Click on EDIT beside your location and enter the exact lat/lon in decimal, click Preview then Save
Alan
-
SO WOULD I ENTER IT LIKE THIS
LAT 53.8219 LONG -101.2531
-
Yes, I use Google Earth to find the exact lat/lon. The lat/lon given gives an address in The Pas
Alan
-
ok thanks,i used my gps for the location.
still shows mlat inactive, and yes i am in the pas manitoba.
the mlat on my fr24 receiver works ok.
thanks again will try and figure it out.
-
It certainly shows your location correctly. I presume that your receiver is linked to your account ok.
I would suggest you ask support for advice as setting the location through Edit is usually all that is required
Alan

WILL DO THANKS

A couple of months ago my MLAT stopped working for no apparent reason. I have been an uploader since May 2021 and changed nothing. I sent logs and data to support, no response. Anyway I found a post on this site that solved my MLAT problem, I hope this helps someone else. It would appear this is a software problem that has existed for over a year.

Re-boot required to testart theMLAT client
Alan
-
Reboots is how I kept MLAT running for the past year when it randomly stopped, but no amount of reboots or "sudo systemctl restart rbfeeder" would fix it when MLAT quit about a month ago. I had an error message when running "sudo systemctl status rbfeeder" to the effect:
"File "/usr/bin/mlat-client", line 108, in <module>
adsbexchange rbfeeder[642]: open(pidfile, 'w').write(pid)
adsbexchange rbfeeder[642]: PermissionError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/run/mlat-client.pid'
This error cleared when I applied the patches in my post above and MLAT then started working. One can now restart the process with "sudo systemctl restart rbfeeder" and "sudo systemctl restart mlat-client", MLAT now happily restarts without a reboot.
-
@Greytech
That patch was for BUSTER, and worked for you because you have Buster. For those who have BULLSEYE, following is the patch:
To install mlat-client package on RPi with 32-bit Raspi OS BULLSEYE
wget https://github.com/abcd567a/mlat-client-package/releases/download/v1/mlat-client_0.2.11_BULLSEYE_armhf.deb
sudo dpkg -i mlat-client_0.2.11_BULLSEYE_armhf.deb
sudo apt-mark hold mlat-client
-
Thanks for that - I will file this for the future in case I do upgrade...
Cheers Tony

This forum software is 8 years out of date, quite risky to visit this. They try to workaround with a terrible spamfilter ''cleantalk'', all it does is making a normal conversation inpossible on this forum. I gave up on it for this. see also https://forum.radarbox24.com/index.php?topic=103651.0

Hello!
I am new to Radarbox.
I installed RB Feeder and Mlat (Bullsey version with 32 bit) on my Raspberry 4 with OS Bullseye 32 bit.
Everything seems to work fine, except Mlat.
It shows Mlat is working. When I watch it I can see that Mlat synchronize with other stations in intervall and not permanently. I do not know why. When I look to other stations with Mlat it seems they synchronize permanently. Seen on green points on the map. Mine are there for a few seconds and disapear. A few minutes later they will apear again on the map for one minute or so.
Also the amount of Mlat pakets on my Pi are relativ low against others.
I was trying everything what I could find in this forum.
I have no idea what to do, for getting it work permanently.
Maybe the expierienced ones of you will have some ideas what to do?
sorry for my english
Kind Regards
Gerry
-
Gerry, what is you station number?
Alan
-
Hi Alan!
my Station is EXTRPI605343
-
no help ?
-
Can you post your ini file minus your details
Alan
-
meanwhile I have tested FlightAware and ads-b exchange
the best working site is flightaware. there I can see all planes in realtime, even MLAT planes are shown. this is not the case with radarbox24.
the only real advantage RB24 has, is the beautiful look of the site. this is really good made.
But what should it bring when when parts of the software is not working well (mlat) and I can see a delay in data also. Everything compared on one screen with Flightaware and ADSBexchange parallel to each other, Radarbox shown planes are several seconds behind in their location.
As I could see in Forum posts , the problem with Radarbox exist a longer timespan right now and is not to be solved in the next time. It seems that they are not interested helping to solve the problems. Otherwise all feeder deliver data to Radarbox without of cost for them.
-
You dont want to help yourself, I asked you to post your RB ini file yesterday to let me have a look at it to see if anytihng need changed
Have you added your exact lat/lon as you have no syncs so there is someting wrong there but unless you post your ini we cant see
Alan
-
Hello Alan!
update: meanwhile I am using a multifeeder (ADSB.im) and oh wonder everything is working !!
Even in Radarbox is MLAT now working without problem
that is a clear sigh that a mistake is build in in Radarbox software for Pi
Kind Regards
-
There is no issue with the MLAT Client, it was fixed in 2022 and myself and many others have it working with no issues. Normaly the issue for MLAT not working for a user is an issue with their ini file but glad you now have it working
Alan
