Title: Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Goes Digital
Post by: Allocator on May 14, 2008, 05:36:19 PM
This is very good news with the display season about to start.  Scroll down to the "BBMF Goes Digital" section.

I doubt that this will be enhanced Mode S giving position information, but who knows!  Anybody any idea what the hex codes are for these aircraft? Anybody picked them up yet?

Nothing here, but will keep my eyes peeled, Coningsby is not that far away.

Reports of possible BBMF aircraft discussed on the SBS-1 Forum:

43C391 Hurricane PZ865

43C38F Dakota ZA947

43C394 Spitfire AB910

If these tie-ups are correct, then this is excellent news.  The aircraft are only appearing the the list, not on the map, but then this was expected.

Just picked up Dakota ZA947 here in Shropshire - wasn't sitting in front of the PC though, so I don't know if it was giving position information :-(

MyLog shows it from 12:47 to 12:49 UTC, so just skimming my area by the looks of it.

Just checked the BBMF website.  Says it's displaying at Liverpool today and flying past Southport, Barnoldswick and Broughton Hall.

Well, I've got direct line of sight to Southport and the direct route from there to Barnoldswick, and it didn't show up on my system.

Still, never mind, at least I had a flight on Air Atlantique's G-AMRA last week, and that showed up on RB :-)))

The Dakota is booked to appear on the Sunday (6 Jul) at the RAF Shawbury Veterans Weekend event.  Unfortunately, I won't have my RadarBox with me, but maybe somebody in the area will look out for the Dak.

Display time is 1400 - subject to weather and serviceability.  Note that the veterans weekend is predominantly a ground event with the odd aeroplane, not an airshow as such.

The RNHF Swordfish and the AAC Historic flight will be about too on the Sunday.

See here for more details:

It's also Waddington Airshow this weekend so there should be plenty of activity in that area also.
