Hi,
Any news of progress being made on the routes and aircraft databases? The guys doing the updating are working extremely hard but don't seem to be getting a lot of backup from AirNav. The saga has been going on a fair while now and it would be nice if we (the Customer) were given some sort of time scale as to when we can expect an improvement. I'm particularly interested in the routes database as I've given up on the aircraft database side and now rely on third party software (ADU)(something Airnav slates the competition about) in order to populate MyLog with aircraft details.
Merry Christmas to all
Terry
Got to agree, except for a few, users dont seem to have too many problems. We dont get many unkown reports and from that you have to take it there isnt to much of a problem. What do others think.
Alan
Regarding future projects: 2011 will be an amazing year for all AirNav fans. 5 brand new projects on the pipeline now.5 projects in the pipeline... wow, must be busy overthere, some projects are there since a few years, think they must have fallen asleep, somewhere in the back of the pipeline... ;-)
PS - anyone confirm the Mode-S code for Santa. I think it's H0H0H0
Hi All
Don't get me wrong - all I wanted to know was what timescale was involved. I am happy enough with my RB and enjoy many hours of use
My third party aircraft database currently has 400K+ records and when I go mobile all I have to do is copy the NavData.db3 from my PC to my laptop and away I go with all the latest information! Prior to obtaining my database I was happy to assist the Updating Team and did for some time. Now the very few unpopulated aircraft I get are easily updated via that third party. Before anyone starts nitpicking, it was a choice I made as it suited ME - It obviously wouldn't suit everybody.
Could AirNav include an up to date NavData.db3 file (with all the hard work of the Update team included) and have it available on their downloads site. As I have said I don't need it, but anyone getting a RB this Christmas will have a database 2 years out of date and a download site with the latest database would be useful to them. It would benefit AirNav as well as once someone had an updated database they wouldn't need to query the Airnav server in order to populate their logs (unless they are looking for photos as well).
As for the routes database - 2 to 3 months down the line seems OK. At least we now have some sort of target to aim for.

In case anyone finds it useful, I've put my navdata.db3 file on my ftp serviceDamn................... too late.............. is there anywhere else we can get these files please Tarbat?.....
First, goto http://www.tarbat.gofreeserve.com, and then goto http://www.tarbat.gofreeserve.com/navdata.zip
No warranty, but if you want to use it, feel free to do so. You might want to backup your own database first.
ROUTES
34,000+ routes populated with data posted on the Yahoo group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PP-logs-and-routes/ and also updated over the last month or so using FDLite feeds from FRL, FlightAware, FlyteCom, FlightStats, Libhomeradar
AIRCRAFT
12,200+ aircraft populated with data from GAS
I also make a change to the data so that clicking on the left photo links to airframes.org, and the right photo links to airliners.net
ACTYPE, AIRLINES, AIRPORTS contain the standard data already in the database
IF ANY COPYRIGHT HOLDER HAS A PROBLEM WITH ME POSTING THIS, JUST LET ME KNOW AND I'LL REMOVE IT.
SORRY: I'VE HAD TO REMOVE THE FILE

No need to be sorry chap. I, as do others appreciate your trying to help.... & relish the idea of some updates....Damn................... too late.............. is there anywhere else we can get these files please Tarbat?.....
Unfortunately I received a PM telling me that I should seek the permission of the Yahoo group and GAS. Sorry, but I have no idea who to contact to get permission. Having been "warned" in the past over copyright infringments, I won't take the risk any more. Sorry, I was only trying to help.
Interesting that the yahoo group regards the information posted there as copyright.
What the hell, life's too short. It's back up on my ftp service. As before, if anyone asserts copyright over this data, let me know and I'll remove it immediately.

Thanks for that Tarbat, although the photos are suspect, as they show different power plants!

I have d/l the file from PP-logs-and-routes, Is there a way of importing this data ?.............. Im sure I saw some info on here recently............

you've misunderstood what I was trying to say.
Alan's correct - it wasn't directed at you in an way!
You don't have to look hard to find continual sarcasm directed at the teams work
Basically, all I was saying, was it potentially will give rise to opportunities for people to immediately spend hours sifting through all the records purposefully looking for errors
I'm afraid it's a no-win situation.
If a new file is released, it serves ,the purpose of giving all RadarBox users access to the work the team have undertaken, which will be of great benefit, but also gives others, who in the past have criticised publically , the efforts and "percieved " failings of the update team for lacking information, or making incorrect decisions , in a way that is little short of childish.
If one isn't released, then we're basically no further on, without some serious development work to force the info on the database through.
All this has been said many many times before
I think the idea of releasing regular updated navdata files is a great idea.As has been mentioned before, the majority of enthusiasts databases operate a similar process.

We are discussing this with the updaters and within the company whether we can release, there are reasons which we mentioned before in earlier posts when this was brought up in the past.
Thanks for the reply. Can you point me to the particular thread where this was brought up in the past so that I can understand the reasons you mention?
My god that was six months ago time does fly's and Dave the rave is still raving lol.
