Title: Help in general
Post by: vassylad on February 21, 2009, 03:01:44 PM
Hi guys i recieved my RB yesterday and the install went ok (I think).

1) On the RB hardware the power is a solid yellow, the USB is a solid blue, but the signal is very intermitent.

2) Although I can see a map currently of the North West of England and I see aircraft but they are hardly moving.

3) I am currently showing 1101 network flights and no myflights.

4) is there a default diagram of how to set RB up please.

5) How do I know if I am in port 30003?

Thanks...Mike Vass

Hi Mike

This may be a driver problem - I suggest you check out the last video on this page: http://www.airnavsystems.com/radarbox/video/ (http://www.airnavsystems.com/radarbox/video/).

If that doesn't help, get back to us!

Close down RadarBox and start it up again, sometimes the first time it runs it puts all the flights in the network column.

You will then be able to see that flights from the network are marked with an asterix and they only update every 30 seconds.

Do not worry about the port, that has got nothing to do with what your seeing.

Are you getting aircraft in the MyFlights list now?

If you zoom in on the map, can you see trail lines from the aircraft? Planes don't move fast across the map if you're zoomed out.

Apart from suggesting that you check that the aerial is securely attached to your RB (especially check that the centre wire hasn't been pushed back), I'm out of ideas now - over to Support!

Mike,

Click on the MyFlights tab and then look at the bottom of the page. Make sure there is a tick in the box marked 'Process Hardware Flights'. Below that there should be a green square and the caption 'Hardware:Connected'.

Vassylad,

Watch this video.  Do you see RadarBox in the USB devices as shown here and what version of the driver does it show when you look at the properties as shown in the video?

http://www.airnavsystems.com/radarbox/video/Drivers.wmv

At the bottom left of your RadarBox screen, what colour is the Hardware indicator?

OK vassylad.  Are you using the standard supplied antenna, and where is it?  Is it somewhere where it has an unrestricted view of the sky?

Also, where are you located, can you see Network traffic over your location?

Looking at the Network over NW England at the moment, it does look fairly quiet.  I can see EZY55AX and RYR73PC heading south, but not too much else.  It could just be quiet at the moment.

Also, your house will block the aircraft in one direction - if there is anything between the aircraft and the antenna, the signal will be reduced or even blocked completely.

Switch the polar diagram on (yellow diamond button on toolbar above "Destination") and see how it builds up over time.

Thanks mate can you give me some advice on my preferences please what should the Radarbox criteria be set at?.

I need to have a better aerial I guess, maybe something attached to the chimney?

I have 18 aircraft in my flights at the moment.

Mike,

You don't need to change anything in the Preferences to get the best out of RadarBox.  I tend to have "Draw Path Vector" unticked, "Seconds to remove trail" set at 150 and "Network labels followed by *" ticked.  I don't bother with "Show Lines to/From".

In the RadarBox section, I have "Download Aircraft Photo" and "Download 2 photos" oth ticked.

By the way, I'm getting between 20 and 30 flights in MyLog with an external antenna at the moment and only about half of those have the "Globe" to show that they will appear on the map - so you're not doing too bad :-)

The higher you can get the antenna, the better.  However, a high antenna with a lot of cable can give a worse picture due to losses in the cable!
