Well, we've got V2.0 and its silhouettes. Personally I find them a bit boring, most of them look pretty much alike. So I've been having a play, and come up with some alternatives, based on photos, as in the two examples below.
If you would like to try them, just do a backup copy of the Data/Silhouettes folder (you may prefer the originals after you've tried mine!) and unzip the two zips (one in this post, one in the following post due to forum size restrictions) into that folder, overwriting the existing files.
I'm personally not convinced that I want the silhouettes column at all, even with my own pics in it, but it's possibly worth a try.
There are a lot left to do, and it's open to imaginative use - do add your own work to this thread if you like the idea.
AirNav have said that the maximum size is 68 pixels width (x 16 pixels high), but the column is currently wide enough for 80px pictures, I've done 76 px width to be the same size as logos.
Do let me know if you like the idea.

Here's part two of the zip
Rod
-
I Like your take on the silhouettes column, keep them coming.
-
Rod, you're doing it again!
Not satisfied with giving yourself the job of redoing all the logo's, you've started on a new mission - ha ha!
I must admit that I wasn't too keen on the silhouettes at first, but now they act as an "attention getter" for anything out of the ordinary. Yes, all the airliners do tend to look the same, but the heli's and light aircraft show up well. I'm sure that I will back up my silhouettes folder at some point and try your small photos too as they do look good.
Thanks again for all the work you've done :-)
-
Allocator, that's exactly why I requested the silhouettes feature in the first place. It's a great way of spotting the more unusual aircraft in the list - for example:
A bit like those aircraft recognition charts I'm just not sure photos would work for me. But each to their own!
I have added one new silhouette, to help me spot aircraft with "..." in the ICAOType:
-
I'm not sure they work for me either, Tarbat - I'm just playing! There are some photos that I'm pleased with - check out the Hawk!
Of course, you can mix them up and keep most of the silhouettes, just having a select few photos as attention-getters.
And you're right, Allocator, I just can't resist playing with the graphics, but it is pretty harmless fun!
I'm off on my hols tomorrow, and I'll view them with a fresh eye when I get back. If anyone has come up with fresh ideas, or contributed more pictures, that would be great!
I've been concentrating so much on RB beta testing in the last few weeks that logos (and silhouettes) have taken a bit of a back seat - but I'll settle down to them (if more need doing) in a week or so.
Rod
-
Hi to all
As the creator of the silhouettes I agree that a lot of them do look similar but the originals were 85 x 20 in size and they don't seem to have the same impact when reduced to 68 x16
Ian
-
I still like the silhouettes!! However I have been playing around with FastStone to maybe sharpen the images up slighty. Ian, if you don't mind me asking, how did you go about creating the 85x20 silhouettes in the first place?
-
Hi Ian
Many congratulations on the silhouettes you did for RB - they are real works of art - and they do look very accurate. It's not your fault that all airliners look much the same these days, especially when they get crammed into a 68x16 pixel space!
As Allocator says, the helicopters and light aircraft do stand out from the crowd. As I said in the first post of the thread, I may well prefer your shilouettes to my pictures - haven't made up my mind yet - but from the responses on the forum, most RB users certainly think they're a great enhancement to the product.
Again, thanks for your work!
Rod
-
Hi
Thanks for the comments
The 85x20 silhouettes were developed for another product hence the size.
Many of the current airliners I was able to scan from a book and then I add the blue background and reduce in size, but most of the aircraft I have to find a good side on photo from any of the main Airliners websites, I then use the lasso tool in Photoshop to cut the aircraft out I then add the blue background and black out the aircraft leaving the windows which are painted white then crop the photo and reduce to 85x20 and apply a small amount of sharpening, each aircraft takes about 10 mins to do from start to finish.
Ian
-
Been reading this thread and I suppose this could apply to logos, flags etc. but why was the limitation of 68 x 16 chosen in the first instance?
Seems very small to me...and I know that Rod, Ian & Co. wouldn't know what to do with all that free time on their hands but...I mean if there are 'other' logos, flags silhouettes out there wouldn't it make sense to arrange our columns to fit the majority?
Thanks & kind regards,
-=Glyn=-
PS. It's not the size that counts...it's how big it is that really matters! ;^)
-
Here are a few more of these photo-silhouettes - the two samples below are included in the zip.
Still haven't decided whether I prefer them to the "proper" ones!
Rod
-
One more batch with a sample that's included in the zip.
Rod
-
Here's another batch, again with one sample of what's in the zip.
Rod
-
There seem to be a few people who like these alternatives to the conventional silhouettes, so here's another batch, again with a sample of one of the silhouettes in the zip.
Rod
-
Here's another little batch of picture "silhouettes", along with a sample of what's in the zip.
I'll send an updated zip file of all these to Allocator's utilities site at http://radarbox.gofreeserve.com/index.html (http://radarbox.gofreeserve.com/index.html)

Hi i tried to download your silhouettes from the link above but it downloads the Outlines.
Thanks

I've registered a strong complaint with the webmaster ;-)
I'm sure Allocator will fix it ASAP.

The official silhouette list :) has now been updated this evening and now has over 1000 logos.

Ian
Cracking work. Thanks for the update. I like what you have done with the airline logos having the manufacturers name on them as an alternative option.

Quick question Ian. What is the aircraft type represented by ZZZZ. I presume it is a prototype from America that hasn't been officially allocated an ICAO code yet, but I can't work out what it is.
-
Hi
The ZZZZ code is the following aircraft: Farnborough Aircraft F1 Kestrel
ZZZZ = Any manufacturer Aircraft type not (yet) assigned a designator
http://www.airliners.net/photo/Farnborough-Aircraft-F1/1467015/M/
-
The ZZZZ code is the following aircraft: Farnborough Aircraft F1 Kestrel
The Kestrel is actually an ICAO JP10.

Is Airframes wrong Dave, when I put the reg N352F in it comes up as ZZZZ ?
-
The airframes. org reference to ZZZZ might date back to the period between the demise of Farnborough and the purchase of the rights to the JP10 by Gulf Aircraft Partnership. Strictly, manufacturer should now be GAP and type JP10 per ICAO 8643
-
ICAO JP10 first appeared in Issue 34-1 of Doc8643, dated 29 September 2006.
-
OK, thanks all
I have a silhouette for the JP10 anyway so either way one is available.
-
I've registered a strong complaint with the webmaster ;-)
I'm sure Allocator will fix it ASAP.
Rod
Just back from 4 days in Venice - on holiday!
Just scanning my emails and the forum threads - I'll have a look at what I've done with the silhouettes link :-)
Thanks for the prod Rod ;-)

Done :-)

Thanks for that Allocator.

Ian
Cheers as ever. A small request. Can you convert the two Embraer Phenom silhouettes you have done for the SBS into our format. They are starting to appear on our network.
Cheers
ACW
-
Hi
The 2 files should be identical, one for SBS and the smaller size for RB.
edit: I don't think I have done the Phenom yet for SBS which is codes E50P & E55P, If you have seen them can you point them out to me.
If I haven't done them then I will add them to the list.
Cheers
-
Sorry Ian,
That is just me not noticing that you have redesigned your site so that no the frontpage shows all available codes and not as on the previous version, only the codes you had tackled. On the new frontpage I saw the Phenom codes and assumed that meant you had done them. Next time I will wait to see if the related silhouette loads up.
-
No problems
Here are the silhouettes anyway

A few alternate ones I have done today

Hi all,
Picked this one up earlier 401073 G-AERV Miles M-11A Whitney Straight. 1 of only four survivors worldwide. So being me I thought I'd have a go at a silhouette:-)
So here is my first attempt at a silhouette, unfortunatley I do not no how to get it to the right size. If someone would like to take up the batton and salvage my attempt feel free.
WARNING! before opening this jpg put down any hot drinks or fragile items and remain seated I would not want you to hurt yourself from laughing.
Also a link to some info

Already done. Didn't think to look for whit. I'm a long way off your 10mins to do one:-)
Cheers John (Fun trying though)

Picked up 403362 G-BTDE Cessna 165 Airmaster do we have a silhouette for said beast?
Looked under the obvious C165, AIRM or is under a differant ICAO ID?
MTIA cheers John

Hi John
If you go to the following website you can do a search for Cessna 165 Airmaster and it will give you a CMAS

Here's another instalment of the pictorial "silhouettes" that I use instead of Ian's (sorry, Ian!).
There may be one or two people who like these, so here they are, and there's a zip of all the silhouettes that I've done on Allocator's Utilities Download page at radarbox.gofreeserve.com/html/downloads.html (http://radarbox.gofreeserve.com/html/downloads.html).
As ever, the sample below is included in the zip.

Is there a combined update available that adds to the file on Allocators webpage that is dated 23/4 ?
Thanks

Also just noted i this file the pictorial silhouette for B763 is a Jet Airways 777.
Apologies if this has been noted before.
Graham
-
Graham - the 777 goof hasn't been noted before! I'll provide a replacement in the next update zip that I do, which will now be very soon!
Thanks!
Jim - thanks for the "silhouette" - I've got stuck on the Beech airliners because there isn't actually an ICAO code B193 - it should be B190 for all models of 1900's, but I looked in my database and saw so many B192 and B193 entries that I gave up!

Hi Ian,
Any chance of doing silhouette for the new Russian regional jet?
Sukhoi Superjet SSJ-100-95 – SSJ9
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:SSJ-100-95_SUKHOI_SUPERJET_95001.png
This plane is in the process of certification now and often flies around Russia as the flight 97004 (Mode-S 175E88)
Thanks,
Nick
-
Hello Ian, seeing as we seemed to have picked up delivery flights of Texan II aircraft lately, could you possibly do a silhouette? I'm guessing the code is TEX2. If anyone knows better please let me know.
Thanks Stuart
-
Nick
The Sukhoi is ICAO SU95 and is in my download
Stuart the TEX2 likewise has already been done.
The last update was the end of Nov. see below for the download
-
Cheers Ian must remember to keep this updated.
Stuart
-
OK, thanks Ian.
Nick

As of today I have withdrawn the silhouette download and will not be updating this forum.
This may be a disappointment to you but other circumstances have led me to take this action.
Ian
-
As of today I have withdrawn the silhouette download and will not be updating this forum, I have also requested that my silhouettes be removed from further releases of the Radarbox software.
Dissapointing Ian. Will you be returning the free Radarbox?
Yes
-
Sorry to see you go, Ian.
In the meantime, my pictorial silhouettes are still available from Allocators Utilities site, and I'll be putting a new zip here soon with some updates.
I know that they're not to everybody's taste, but I do find that I can instantly spot different aircraft types using these, and I don't have to resort to typing a label on them to tell one from another, which to me rather defeats the point ;-)
Rod
-
I haven't done a batch of my photo-type silhouettes for a while - the last one was last September - so here's another batch.
As ever the sample below is included in the zip, and the latest zip with all of my silhouettes should be on Allocator's RadarBox Utilities website soon: http://radarbox.gofreeserve.com/index.html
Rod

Just updated my photo-silhouettes.
Many thanks, as ever, Rod!

I'm ploughing on doing my photo-silhouettes. Here are three more:
UF13, WT9, and YK40
Rod

Hi, Rod
I receiving a lot of Boeing 777-FZN (B77L) these Days. It would be great if you could do a picture silhouette for this Type.
Cancel that. I just went to the NAV Database and re-name all false B77F entries to the correct B77L.
-
Hi Rod, how is it with a silhouette for a Impulse 100 (IMPU).
-
OK Neroon79 - I've done that and quite a few more, so I've included them in a new zip. The last one was in reply #76, and I'm sending a zip with all the photosilhouettes to Allocator for his downloads page.
The example IMPU below is in the new zip.
Rod

Thank you very much!

A couple more: F4 and SC7
Rod

Here's one for the Turbo Goose - G21T.
Rod

Here's a zip file with all your requests, plus a few bonus ones!
I'm sending a zip with all the silhouettes in this thread to Allocator's utilities website here: http://radarbox.gofreeserve.com/index.html

Hi Rod, thank you for the ZIP File!
There's one I forgot to add to the list yesterday:
H53 (Sikorsky VFW CH-53G)
Thank you in advance.

Here you go
Rod
-
Thanks Rod!
I have a couple more to do:
C10T (CESSNA P210 (turbine) ) not very common here, but from time to time
KL07 (BOLKOW F-207 )
B407 (BELL 407 )
B105 (MBB Bo105 P1-A1) comes often with GAM
EN28 (ENSTROM F-28 )
RV4 (VAN'S RV-4 )
-
C10T (CESSNA P210 (turbine) ) not very common here, but from time to time
Yes, Turbine 210s are like hen's teeth, AFAIK there are fewer than 10 worldwide, although at least two of those are in Europe.
-
I don't seem to have a silhouette for the AS350B or I have inadvertantly deleted it (more likely). Any chance of a redo?
-
Eurocopter AS-350 B, ICAO Designator: AS50
-
Here come more "silhouettes":
C10T
KL07
B407
B105
More follow...

The rest:
EN28
RV4

SB29 Saab 29 Tunnen
I think you mean Tunnan, although that wasn't an official name, given that it's Swedish for "barrel" !
-
Must learn to trype better ;-)
Rod
-
Thanks Rod, tis in my flowder, Dave.
-
Now that we're getting an aircraft code of Test for various Boeings and Airbuses, I thought folk might like something to fill the gaps in the silhouettes column. Take your choice. Rename Test-1.bmp to Test.bmp if you want to use that.
EDIT - I just remembered that the "standard" silhouettes are narrower than the "photo" ones that I normally do, so I've resized it so that it doesn't stick out from the others.
Rod
-
Here's a zip with 23 "silhouettes" including the ones posted here since the previous zip, plus a few extras including the sample here.
Rod
-
I've been using these "silhouettes" for a while and find them fairly useful. There's one for the photo-style and one for the smaller conventional style.
Take your pick and copy/rename them for other examples of wrong type codes which currently appear despite the best efforts of the database updaters. Examples include A380, B77F and BKC3.
Rod
-
Hi Rod, it would be great, if could make a photo silhouette for the Aerospatiale SA-365C Dauphin 2 (S65C), because PHOENIX Hannover/Hildesheim uses one of these for their "surveillance flights" along the A2 -which is very close to my home position-
EDIT: A link to some Pictures: http://www.planepictures.net/netsearch4.cgi?stype=reg&srng=1&srch=D-HOPE
Thanks for the "wrong code" "silhouettes" they're indeed very useful By< the way: Another very common is B77F instead of the correct B77L
About the TEST "silhouette": I just considered to ask you about doing one by using some "green Aircraft" in one Picture. Now I decided to use the yellow/red one but I will change the RED into Green or the yellow background into green. Have to see which combination looks better ;-)#
Thanks again!
Ingo
-
Hi Ingo
Thanks for that - here's the S65C and a green Wrong Code silhouette, though a lot of te "test" aircraft aren't actually green :-)
EDIT Oops - did a wrong Silhouette instead of a Test one - now rectified.
Hope you like them.
While I'm at it, here's another thai I've done recently, the R722
Rod
-
Hi Rod!
Well, the "real" Test AC are usually not green, but the first flights of new Airbus "Birds" on their maiden flights are often green. Same is valid for the ferry flights from tls to do the "paint-job" in xwf. Anyway, I like the green on yellow TEST icon more, because red on yellow is a kind of to intense/aggressive colour combination for my eys. ;-)
Another Request:
A Photo Silhouette for the Cessna 414 Chancellor (C414) would be great.
-
Here's a zip with 23 "silhouettes" including the ones posted here since the previous zip, plus a few extras including the sample here.
Hi Rod,
this morning I downloaded and installed all this silhouettes for the first time. The result was a verry beautifull-looking "Silhouette-column" on my screen!
Thank you and all others who are working on this and keep up this good work please!
-
Thanks, Hans. There's a zip with 450 of my silhouettes on my new downloads page here http://rodb.gofreeserve.com/RadarBox/Downloads.htm
Ingo - sorry, I did a Wrong Code instead of a Test silhouette - now changed - and here's a C414.
Rod
-
Thank you a lot for the C414 and if you have some time it would be great to have one for a Aero Commander 680FL AC6L (http://www.planepictures.net/netsearch4.cgi?stype=reg&srng=1&srch=D-IABB)
EDIT:
Just a thought: Due to the quite huge amount of Tactical (TACT) entries for the German Air Force CL's it might be a considerable idea to make a TACT Silhouette like you already did for the TEST entry.
-
Here's an AC6L.
Rod
-
Hi,
Recently I download from internet the Silhouettes with to big size for my RB
( 85x20) ...And I am not happy at all how it looks...
Please can someone tell me from where I can download the original regular ANRB Silhouettes?
Thank you very much !

I've just updated my Downloads page so that you can download the standard RadarBox silhouettes or my photo-style ones (or both) - I have AirNav's permission do do this.

Rod

Thank you Alan and Rod for your help...
Eveything is o.k. now :)

Hi Rod, because I got one at the moment, I want to place a request for a ROBIN HR-200 HR20. If you could be so kind...
EDIT: Just got another without a Silhouette: Xtreamair XA42 Sbach 342 (XA42)
-
Here you are, Ingo:
HR20, XA42 (never even heard of this before) and an extra one, VEZE
Rod
PS I haven't forgotten the TACT one - working on it...
-
HR20, XA42 (never even heard of this before)
Neither did I -until I got them in my list. ;-) Further I didn't expect that they have an ICAO Identifier, but according to DOC8643 they do...
PS I haven't forgotten the TACT one - working on it...
No need to hurry...

Just got another without a Photo Silhouette:
Navion G-1 Rangemaster (RANG) (http://www.airliners.net/photo/Untitled/Navion%20Rangemaster%20G-1/0319432/L/&width=1024&height=745&photo_nr=&sid=&set_photo_album=hide)

There's something very pleasing about the shape of Rangmasters:
RANG and another : E400
Rod

Thank you Rod!

Looking at the TACTICAL question, the updaters have decided that the word TACTICAL should be in the registration, with the aircraft type blank.
Most of these are allocated to particular aircraft types, apparently, such as CL60 or F15, so surely it would be better to show the aircraft type as a silhouette rather than a generic Tactical silhouette.
I've amended my database to show the aircraft type with the appropriate aircraft code, and I'll rely on the TACTICAL "registration". I'll see how that works out.
So do we need, or do people really want, a "tactical" silhouette?
Rod
-
Sounds good for me, I'll do it same way you did. As for me: no TACT silhouette will be needed.
-
Only problem I've just found was a GAF CL-60 showing full adsb flying up the coast and showing details of an USAF F15 because of the reg, the flight number and logo were correct but showed as various F15 aircraft.
something to think about, I've gone ... for reg and type for the aicraft instead.
Stuart
-
Had a look in the d/b and all GAF CL60's are marked as such and with "Tactical Code - Various CL60 Aircraft" as AT they use a different hex on each mission.
The USAF F-15 have even been noted using Russian hex code allocations. They are all marked as "Tactical Code - Various F15 Aircraft" for same reason
Alan
-
Hi Rod, while preparing a posting for the database updater I found the Pitts Special S-1-11X (PTS1) AC without a Photo-Silhouette.
Warning! It will be hard to find a suitable Picture of this AC Tape for a Photo Silhouette. But if you can make it many thanks!!
-
I've done the PTS1 already, but I forgot to post it!
Rod
-
Alan
If the reg shows as a 'tactical' AR the details show on your log as a F15 of the USAF, the logo may be correct from the flight ID but the type will show as a F15.
Stuart
sorry it's off this topic will try the databse one in future
-
Hi Rod, just got a Cessna 207 Skywagon on my Screen. Unfortunately without one of your beautiful Photo Silhouettes. (http://www.planepictures.net/netsearch4.cgi?srch=D-EBSD&srng=2&stype=reg)
Thanks ahead!

Ingo

Here's the C207 silhouette.
Rod
-
Here's one for the VL-3
Rod
-
Hello Rod,
Do you know someone who makes traditional silhouettes for CRJX and the VL3?
Regards
-
I'm afraid not - we don't have a maker of the standard silhouettes after Ian left us :-(
Rod
-
The newly-released database has shown up the need for two photo-silhouettes that I hadn't done - I'm sure more will pop up with time.
So here are an FA10 and an AT75
EDIT I had already done the FA10, - odd that it hadn't shown up first time round. I prefer my old one, but I'll leave this here in case anyone prefers this, but I won't include this version in the in the next zip.
Rod
-
Has anyone a silhouette for a Piston Provost (PPRO) please?
Dave.
-
Airnav certainly don't :(
-
Nor does sbs. :-((
-
Well, we're one up on SBS, then. I've given in to the overwhelming pressure to do a conventional silhouette - well, I thought I'd give it a go - so here's my first attempt at one. Be honest - should I stick to the photo ones, or is this OK?
I've done a photo-one too - rename it if you prefer it.
OOPS - sorry - I dropped a pixel - the photo-version is now the right width!
Rod
-
Thanks for them all Rod but my personal preference is the standard type over the picture, makes the desktop less confusing to me anyway.
Stuart
-
Looks good Rod, well done.
Alan
-
And a gold star from me.
Thanks Rod, Dave.
-
Must admit Rod, although the coloured ones look real good, for me the 'observers Books' type side on's are rather easier to view quickly...however the work you put into these is gratefully acknowledged, received and to be admired.
Best regards,
Dave.
-
Well, we're one up on SBS, then.
Rod
Not quite true. It has been on the SBS Resources download since October, just wasn't on my website. :)
-
Curses - foiled again ;-)
Ah well, probably still playing catchup with this one as well. While I'm doing these boring old-fashioned silhouettes, heres a CRJX.
Rod
-
And another: the AT75
I think Ian K said that these took him around 10 minutes to do. I obviously need more practice!
Rod
-
And another previous request, the Aveko VL-3
Rod
-
Rod, I hope dropping a pixel wasn't too painful or have any long-term health issues!
-
Rod thank you (and Ian K before) for the original side view silhouettes.
We really need to keep the pressure on Airnav for these. There are around 50 codes in our navdata that are being picked up by airnav users around the world for which new users do not have access to original style silhouettes.
-
Jon - thanks for your concern, but I do have a supply of the appropriate splints!
ACW - I don't intend to do many of these standard silhouettes - I don't use them myself, and am doing them as an interesting exercise. I too hope that AirNav find a provider for the long term. Mind you, my terms are quite reasonable ;-)
Oh - here's another one - the SU95
Rod
-
Rod,
I keep getting aircraft appearing in the interface designated as B77L for which I don't have a corresponding silhouette. Any chance of you doing this one. Many thanks in advance as I know it's not within your usual subject.
Ian
-
Here you are, Ian.
Rod
-
Rod
any chance of a colour C56X please
regards
Graham
-
Hi Graham
THis is in my silhouettes zip available from my downloads page here: http://rodb.gofreeserve.com/RadarBox/Downloads.htm
But here it is anyway.
Rod
-
Rod
thank you
Graham
-
Found FBA-2
Rod
-
I would like to see the conventional spotter silhouettes scaled according to the relative sizes of the aircraft. I realize that this would make some silhouettes very small, however. The overwhelming majority of aircraft that I see are airliners, so a few tiny GA planes are not an issue for me.
-
Sorry, NF2G - that's not going to happen - the Found, or the Pitts, wouldn't even show up as a single dot compared with a 747 if we did that! Even 146's and Embraers would only be a tiny smudge.
That's another reason I prefer the photo-style - no pretence of scale with them.
Rod
-
Well, it was only a wish. No problem. :)
-
Here's a conventional one of the Boeing 747-8.
Rod
-
Another
-
I think I may have stolen a march on Ian now ;-)
Stinson 108 Voyager - S108
Yes - there was one on the network this evening.
Rod
-
Another rarity appeared on the network today:
Asso 4 Whisky - ASO4
Rod
-
Note that IanK has an updated zip file of silhouettes (dated 17th March), containing 1270 silhouettes. To use these in Radarbox you will need to resize to 68x16, using something like FastStone Resizer.
Available from http://www.sbsbst.co.uk/iank/ (select the Download ZIP File option).
-
I for one would like to say a big thank you to Ian for his work on silhouettes, very much appreciated
Alan
-
Here's an E45X silhouette for the collection.
Jim
-
Hi Jim - thanks for that - I've re-done it to the dimensions that I sneaked in for photo-silhouettes - hope you don't mnd!
The silhouettes column is wide enough for 76 pixels - I guess that the convention of 68x16 is purely so that 85x20 images (wherever they might possibly come from) would scale down correctly.
Rod
-
Looks better at 76x16 ... thanks, Rod!
-
By special request:
Lockheed Jetstars L29A and L29B (we already have an L29A in conventional form).
Oops - sorry - I dropped a couple of pixels on the L29B conventional silhouette - now corrected.
Rod
-
Don't know if I have missed it, but do we have a Photo silhouette of the AT75?
-
Ignore my last message I've found it.
-
Okay, you`re ignored. :-)
-
Just had appear on 'My Flights', G-SRBN c/n 50000056 a EMB-500 Phenom 100 of Flairjet. According to Airframes and AN the type is given as an E50P. I don't seem to have a silhouette for this type in my silhouettes folder unless I have missed it being issued. Can some kind soul please provide one ?
Thanks,
Ian
-
Send me your email address and I will forward it on.
Alan
-
It's in this thread, here: http://www.airnavsystems.com/forum/index.php?topic=1290.msg21304#msg21304
Rod
-
Thanks guys. Seemed to have missed that one.
Ian
-
Hallo Rod, it would be great to have a Silhouette for the DALLACH D-4 Fascination. The same counts for the PA38. Thanks ahead!
-
Here you are:
DAL4
Rod
-
And a photo PA38
Rod
-
Thanks a lot!
-
A photo silhouette for the R200 is unfortunately missing.
-
Not any more!
Rod
-
Hi Rod, is it really possible that we don't have a Photo Silhouette for the good old "Huey"? That can't be true aren't it?
-
I can't find a conventional one either, so I've done them both.
Rod
-
The Huey silhouette is B412.bmp in the ANRB distribution files.
-
Another missing one - the Lancair Evolution - EVOL
Rod
-
Hi Rod, I'm just Receiving D-EGQA a Bolkow Bo208C Junior ICAO Type JUNR unfortunately only with a conventional Silhouette. I would be great to have it as a Photo Silhouette. Thanks in advance.
Well, there is another Photo Silhouette which in my opinion could deserve a Re-Do: It's the one for the Hot-Air (Fire-) Balloons: BALL
Perhaps, if you have some time you could do a new one with more than just one Balloon on white back-ground. Like this for example: http://www.zurkuhlen.de/juli2006/heissluftballon770.jpg
And just for fun this one: http://www.ballonservice.de/webblog/wp-content/uploads/2007/04/darthvader.jpg
-
Hi Ingo - here's the JUNR, and what do you think of these?
Sorry, Darth Vader is the wrong shape!
Rod
-
Hi Rod, Darth was just a little joke.
About the two others: BALL1.bmp was the one I was looking for. But BALL2 is also very nice. Well, now I would need a function which allows you to toggle between them: If it's dark outside use BALL1, if it's bright day use BALL2. But as long as this function doesn't exists I would go for BALL1. Thanks a lot again.
Regards Ingo
-
Hi Rod, I just noticed, that there is no photo silhouette for the Remos GX (ICAO ident GX), would be great if you do one. Her a link to a picture: http://www.stcharlesflyingservice.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/08-628_0722.jpg

Also missing:

Here are GX, BREZ and AS21.
Oops - the AS21 was too big - now corrected.
Rod

Time for a zip.
The last one was on 15th December 2010 in reply #100. This one contains all the photo-silhouettes posted here since then, plus, possibly one or two more (I really can't remember!)
The zip of all 500 of the photo-silhouettes is now on my downloads page here: http://rodb.gofreeserve.com/RadarBox/Downloads.htm

Hi Rod, since when do we save the Silhouettes as .GIF files? Until now they always cam as Bitmap files. Do to the "GIF"s work anyway?
-
Oops - sorry - brain fade!
Corrected now.
Rod
-
Oops - sorry - brain fade!
Hi Rod, this is a well known "problem". From my own experience I'd like to say: there is no need to worry until this condition gets permanent. ;-)
I have four further types, which are calling for a Photo-Silhouette:
1st: LNC2 Lancair 360 (http://www.flugzeugbilder.de/show.php?id=1014471)

1st: Antonov An-74-200 (AN72) (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e1/Antonov-An-74.jpg) I think that this is a quite rare on, as I tracked this type the first time ever.

3rd: Extra EA-200 (EA20) (http://www.flugzeuginfo.net/acimages/extra_ea200_jeancharlessautaux.jpg) Also not very common I guess, because I have only one recurring Airframe of this type.

-
Hi Rod.
Me again requesting photo silhouettes fro DHC2 Beaver and Fiesler F156 storch both of which appeared on my RB this afternoon. Plenty of vintage acft flying round my way now with mode-S, makes this hobby even more interesting.
Tommyg
-
Hi Chaps
I'll get round to these soon - starting to catch up after my holiday...
Rod
-
Welcome back
-
Thanks Chris. I suppose it's good that there's no need in Chorley for the CL-415's that were cruising over us in Italy :-(
There are the first four of the backlog - DH82, PC7, PISI and S208.
Rod
-
And here are the DHC2 and F156.
Rod
-
Rod,
Welcome back. While you were away, I had N928NA a WB57F Canberra of NASA fly over this area. There is a thread regarding it. Could we have a silhouette please. Airframes give it as a WB57.
Thanks,
Ian

Hi chaps - been away on a hospital adventure - OK now, though.
oops, hope it was not to serious
anyway, wish you the best,.... and welcome back ;-)

Thanks, Vonsmalhausen.
Emergency laser eye surgery was required but I should be fine now - check-up tomorrow :-O
Rod
-
Hi Rod, sorry to hear anyone's been anywhere near a hospital, but very glad to have you back with us. I hope and trust all is good with you.
Edit and addtion. Hi Rod, only just picked up on your 2127 post, I recently (last Oct. and May) had left and right cataracts removed and new acrylic lens implanted :- 12 - 15 minutes each one, fully conscious, and so-called anaesthetised, could still see everything and feel my eye being prodded and fiddled with - a very unpleasant experience, but apparently not one that can be done so easily under general anaesthetic as the surgeon needs you to move your eye where he wants it. Absolutely superb results, can see stuff on the horizon clearly again - possibly better than when I was 18 - still need reading glasses though, but that's the trials of old age. Although a distinctly unpleasant experience, definitely very worth tolerating. I made need to have eye lasered at some later date, as rejection cause the eye to "fog" up the new lens, but only a 10 minute job and OK for the rest of your life. If you've got cataracts, get a referral to the ophthalmologist and push to get the job done asap for road safety/ driving purposes - anyone need any tips to get accelerated treatment let me know by PM - about 10 weeks wait for the first and 7 weeks for the second on the NHS.
-
Hi Jon - thanks for that, but mine was an emergency caused by drops to dilate my pupils for examination - I suffered an "Angle Closure Glaucoma" attack. I've never had glaucoma, and have had the drops before with no ill effects, but apparently with age, there is increased risk.
Apparently a Glaucoma attack can cause lasting damage, but if treated soon enough, that can be avoided - and I seem to have got myself to A&E quickly enough for it to be treated in time. The laser surgery to cut holes to reduce the pressure in the eye seems to have worked a treat - the hospital pulled out all the stops to get me treated ASAP - ambulance with flashing blue lights, consultants called from their beds and golf courses to get me sorted, and, though I've got a check-up tomorrow morning, I can at least see well enough to create logos and silhouettes, so that ain't bad!
The treatment was deeply unpleasant (I don't think I had any anaesthetic), but never actually very painful (unlike the attack itself, which was agony at least as bad as an abcess), and you can tolerate quite a lot when you think that the alternative is to lose your sight. It does help concentrate the mind! The "fireworks" while the laser was firing were actually quite pretty! So don't worry about the laser treatment - it sounds like it's nothing worse that you've been through already.
If I can't drive, I can't work, so here's hoping the check-up goes OK!
Rod

Check-up went fine - I can drive again!

Rod,
Just seen on the network, G-ZZSG given as a Eurocopter EC25 with a c/n of 2714 belonging to Bristows. Having checked my silhouettes folder, I don't appear to have a silhouette for an EC25 unless I have overlooked it being posted. Can you oblige please ?
Thanks,
Ian
-
Ian - I have already done it, but here it is again.
Rod
-
Cheers Rod. I must have missed it when you originally posted.
Ian
-
In response to a mention in the logos thread, here's the R722 silhouette. A big advantage of these photo-silhouettes is that they can show a very different image compared with the B722, where the standard profile silhouettes would look identical.
Rod
-
Just noticed that we haven't got a photo-silhouette for the Van's RV-12 (RV12) so I've done one.
We get the occasional ICAO code of ZZZZ which is officially "Aircraft type not (yet) assigned a designator" but which the database updaters have also used for "Various airframes" for Airbus (and perhaps others?).
I've been using this "obscured by clouds" silhouette for this code - thought you might like it too.
Rod
-
Hi Rod,
Sorry to be a pain but please could you do a zip of your photo silhouettes since the last update as I think I have missed a few.
Thanks in anticipation
keith
-
Hi Keith
Here's a zip as requested - all the photo-silhouettes since the last zip. Ther are only 23 of them, so this isn't the official update zip, and I won't be adding it to the "master" zip on my downloads page. I'll wait till I get more before I bother doing that.
Rod
-
Hi Rod,
Thank you for the Zip, much appreciated.
Regards
Keith
-
Glad to be of service :-)
Rod
-
Hi Rod,
ANRB aside, I wish you well with your treatment and although you're 'back' working on this fine program really think you're a 'top' bloke working so soon after your eye treatment. Keep well my friend and best wishes.
Cheers Dave.
-
Many thanks for that, Dave. The laser treatment that I received was supposed to be an instant cure, and it did do the job within two hours.
I just hope it stays that way!
Rod
-
Hi Rod. Glad to see you back. since I've been in Texas this week have picked up an A1 Skyraider from the Cavanaugh fleet and it only had a standard silhouette, any chance of a picture?
Thanks Tommy
-
Hi Tommy - thanks for that - here's the A1 silhouette
Rod

Hi Rod

Both appeared with the orange silhouettes,is it possible to be complete to get such nice new silhouettes.
Thanks in advance

Hi Ronald - I'm glad you like my photo-silhouettes!
To get the full collection, you need to go to my downloads page here: http://rodb.gofreeserve.com/RadarBox/Downloads.htm You will see the button for the Photo-silhouettes.
Follow the instructions on that page - extract the files to your Silhouettes folder, overwriting the existing files. Restart RadarBox, and you should have them all.
Hope that helps

Here you are, Tommyg:
Their ICAO codes are S900 and BU81
Rod

Here's a new one:
A149 - AgustaWestland AW149
Rod

Another new one - the ICAO website doesn't yet have this code, but our database updaters are to be trusted!
Magni M-24C Orion - MM24
Rod
-
Rod,
The MM24 is indeed in the ICAO website from the November update http://legacy.icao.int/anb/ais/8643/ , I suspect you are using the previous update from March.
Alan
-
Interesting - I was using what I took to be the latest version here http://www.icao.int/publications/DOC8643/Pages/Search.aspx which doesn't state the update date.
Perhaps I'll stick to the legacy page in future.
Rod
-
I don't know whether I missed it or it isn't there yet. But I'm just receiving D-MSSU Evektor EV-97 EuroStar SL with designator EV97 without a nice Photo Silhouette.
Many thanks ahead!

You must have missed it - but here it is again
Rod
-
Rod,
Just had come over (and a long way from home), N20727 c/n 802-4012 an Air Tractor AT-802. It is in the d/b but I don't appear to have a silhouette. Airframes gives the type as an AT8T. Can you oblige ?
Ian

Great code that!
Here it is:
AT8T - Air Tractor AT-802 Fire Boss
Rod

Here's the Tecnam P-2006T silhouette in conventional form and as a "photo-silhouette"
If you want to use the photo-silhouette, you'll need to rename it to P06T.bmp

Hallo Rod,
after receiving this one Dornier CD-2 Seastar I noticed that there isn't any Silhouette for the CD2 in my Silhouettes folder. Have I missed it ? ( CD2: http://www.cubomedia.com/aanet/scalaria/gvn_071407_DSC9127a.jpg )

Hi Rod, do we have a Photo Silhouette for the C27J ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C27J ) or have I missed it?
Have a nice rest-weekend!

Hi Ingo - have one yourself!
C27J - Alenia C-27J Spartan

Hallo Rod, just noticed, that the Stemme S6 (designator S6) doesn't show any Silhouette. Have I missed it? (http://www.stemme.de/daten/e/index.html / and http://www.skykingsoaring.com/motorglider.html )
Have a nice Weekend!
Ingo
-
Hi Ingo
Here's the S6
Rod
-
Many Thanks Again!
Ingo
-
Rod.
Picked up GARRL an Auster J1N showing in the database as a J1 but no picture. It was flying in formation with another one that wasn't showing on mode S.
Thanx Tommy
-
Rod.
Could you please add to the list a Percival Proctor and a Stemme S6. It's really great to see some of these old vintage aircraft flying with Mode S now. (Even though the restorers might not think so!!).
Thanx again Tommy
-
A photo silhouette of the S6 was requested by me yesterday. You can find it on page 24 of this thread.
Ingo
-
Hi Tommy
As Ingo says, I did the S6 only a few posts ago - but here are the PROC and the J1 - nice to hear they're up and about.
Oops - PROC was too big - now corrected - sorry!
Rod
-
Thanks Rod.
I keep forgetting where I last updated from, hence missing the S6. Is there a way we can have a sticky where all the up to date silhouettes and outlines can be found? I could then update on a monthly/weekly basis.
Tommy
-
Hi Tommy
Stickiness is up to AirNav as the moderators of the forum, but perhaps you could use the Notify feature to let you know when new replies have been posted to this thread.
Rod

A new one just popped up on the network:
SVNH - MXP-740 Savannah by Aerotec, Agro-Copteros or ICP
Rod

It's about time we had another zip - here's the zip of all the photo-silhouettes posted here since the last one in reply #292 on: August 29th last year.
The zip of all the photo-silhouettes to date, including these, is on my downloads page here http://rodb.gofreeserve.com/RadarBox/Downloads.htm (http://rodb.gofreeserve.com/RadarBox/Downloads.htm)

I'm looking for a photo silhouette of the G2T1 Great Lakes 2T-1A-2 Sport Trainer (N122TL) (http://e0.photos.flightcdn.com/photos/retriever/66744abc69114d8a9a30cea28c1aa238a2636487 )

Hi Rod.
Thanks for quick response. I have noticed that despite having notify enabled, I am not receiving any notifications at all on latest updates on this subject. I wonder if it is a similar issue people are having with Alerts.
tommyg
-
Hi tommyg - yes, I wouldn't be surprised if there is a delay with notifications. I don't use them much as I'm always scanning the threads!
Rod
-
Rod,
I have just had on 'My Flights', flight ID RAWHD52 Mode S AE0462 Registration 162147 which according to the d/b relates to a US Navy Grumman C-2A Greyhound. The reference of 'C2' comes up in the aircraft type column of the grid but no corresponding silhouette. Can you oblige please ?
Ian
-
Hi Ian - we already have a photo-silhouette for the C2, but no standard silhouette.
Here's the photo-silhouette again.
Rod
-
Thanks Rod. I probably missed it as I have mainly the standard silhouettes.
Ian

Hi Rod.
Thanks for quick response. I have noticed that despite having notify enabled, I am not receiving any notifications at all on latest updates on this subject. I wonder if it is a similar issue people are having with Alerts.
tommyg
i have the same problem lately ; no more notifications of new posts

I've contacted Support about notifications - they're looking into it.
Here's a new photo silhouette:
PA12 - Piper PA-12
Rod
-
hy Rod, don't know if we have it already ( can't find it in my folder anyway )
i had a Fouga Magister CM170 in my flights lately, no silhouette, i made one, but don't know the code to go with it
-
No, we hadn't got it yet - thanks!
FOUG - Fouga CM-170 Magister
Rod
-
Am I correct in saying that one just overwrites the C:\Program Files (x86)\AirNav Systems\AirNav RadarBox\Data\Silhouettes folder with the contents of silhouettes zip?
-
Yes - when you extract the zip files, just point to the Silhouettes folder, and tell it to overwrite/replace any existing files.
Rod
-
Thanks for the prompt reply.
-
Hi Rod,
today afternoon I had 3B7731 / 084 French Air Force an E121 EMBRAER EMB-121 Xingu ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embraer_EMB_121_Xingu ) in my list. Unfortunately without a photo silhouette. Would be great, if you can make one. Thanks ahead!
Ingo
-
Hi Ingo - I didn't realise that the French had Xingus...
E121 - Embraer EMB-121 Xingu
Oops - sorry - posted a GIF file - now corrected
Rod
-
It was the very first E121 that I have received. By the way: A .gif file? ;-)
-
Rod.
Just picked up a R66 (N4502G) this morning, but no photo silhouette. Have now picked up EDGE 360
G-IIFM without a picture silhouette as well.
Think I may keep you busy this weekend. Lol
Thanx Tommy
-
Sorry about the GIF file - now corrected.
Thanks for those Tommy
Here's the R66. I can't find an ICAO code for the Edge 360, so I've just called it EDGE, which is apparently the code for the Edge 540
Rod
-
Just noticed that we have a photo-silhouette for the Lancair Evolution as EVOL
That appears to be wrong (has it actually changed, or did I get it wrong in the first place?). Anyway the codes should be EVOP for the piston-powered version and EVOT for the turboprop version.
Rod
-
Rod,
EVOL was correct but changed as you detail on the latest ICAO list of 31st March.
Alan
-
Alan, I hope that all affected aiframe entries will be amended within the next database download release, aren't they?
Rod, are you planing to do two different silhouettes for each type, or will the EVOL Silhouette be used for both designators. In case of the second I will wait until the designator change is implemented to the Database and a new release is out to download. After installing that release I copy and rename the old EVOL Silhouette.
Have a nice evening.
-
All the types affected have already been changed in the d/b
Alan
-
That's how I noticed! Updaters vigilant as ever...
I've done a different silhouette for each, but at the moment I just can't get the files to upload - I'm keeping trying, though.
I eventually succeeded by changing from Firefox to IE (latest versions of each) - worked first time.
Rod
-
Hi Rod,
received OK-LUG 42 a FAET (ATEC 321 Faeta) yesterday, but no silhouette showed up. Have I missed it or haven't you done one yet? ( http://www.atecaircraft.eu/img/DSC_0119.jpg )

No, we hadn't got tha one - thanks, Ingo
FAET - ATEC 321 Faeta

Hi Rod,
another one: MY13 MYLIUS MY-103 Mistral (received the airframe in picture: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mylius_My-103_Mistral )

Here's the MY13. There aren't many photos around - this is the best I can do for now.
Rod

Hi Rod,
just noticed another one without a Photo Silhouette:

Rod,
Just picked up A6-AAM inbound Edinburgh as GSH646 without a logo, Gama Aviation FZC, the UAE arm of Gama Aviation http://www.gamagroup.com/
Alan

Hi Alan - I can't imagine why your silhouettes aren't showing. Have you changed anything on your system? Have you checked the virtual store ;-)
See the logos thread for the GAMA logo!
Rod

Hi Rod,
Hvent a clue whats up, nothings changed that I'm aware of and keep well away from the store.
Sorry about the wrong thread for the logo.

I don't get many JU-52's either. Just this one. And even this "Tante JU" only a few times a year. (The number of receptions can be counted on one hand.)

Hi Rod,
I've searched the forum, but wasn't able to find any silhouette for the SCHEMPP-HIRTH Ventus 2CM (designator VENT). (http://www.schempp-hirth.com/index.php?id=94&L=1%2Findex.php%3Fid%3D) If there is already a silhouette, it would be great if you can post it again.
Ingo

We haven't had this before - thanks:

Hi Rod,
Currently showing in MyLog,
G-RMTO Rotorsport UK Ltd MTOSport GYRO RSUK/MTOS/027
Sorry if we have it already but if so I'm not up to date,
Regards,
Syd
-
Hi Syd,
The type designator for MTOSport isn't GYRO anymore. The designator is now MT.
look here: http://www.airnavsystems.com/forum/index.php?topic=1290.msg76133#msg76133
Ingo
-
Hi Syd
Ingo is right, but we still need the GYRO silhouette for other unspecified gyrocopters, so here it is. I know it looks like a conventional silhouette, but it isn't centred, so it must be a "photo" one.
Rod
-
Hi Rod, is there a silhouette for the AirBus Voyager KC2 please or is it a case of copying the A330?
Thanks, Dave.
-
Hi Dave
The ICAO code for the Voyager is A332 (it doesn't have a separate code from the civvie version) so you shouldn't need to do anything at all :-)
If the database updaters occasionally get it wrong, complain to them ;-)
Rod
-
Wouldn`t dare, fine body of men!
Ta, Dave.
-
You havent seen my body Dave or you wouldnt say that !!
Alan
-
This is the code corruption bug at work again. The Voyager is correct as A332 in the database, but the bug corrupts this to Voya when the server is interrogated by a user. Only a manual change in individual navdatas can sort this until airnav issue the next navdata. It will continue to occur with all subsequent Voyager deliveries until airnav fix the bug. We have asked many times for a bug fix patch to 4.03 so we can have a bug free system for the first time in over three years. Looks like we will have to wait for version 5 which airnav have been virtually silent about since the shiptrax release a quarter of a year ago. Reckon us end users won't see a bug free version 5 for another 12 months.
-
Evening Rod, I had another one without a photo Silhouette a couple of hours ago:

Hallo Rod,

1st: KAPPA KP-2 Sova designator KP2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kappa_77_KP_2U-SOVA)
2nd: ROBIN ATL designator ATL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_ATL)
Both received today afternoon. Many thanks ahead!

Is there a silhouette for the Gulfstream Aerospace G-IV available?

Only this photo version.
Rod

noticed today that Cessna U206G Stationair has no photo silhouette, code C06T
had 2 of them ; OO-HPK and PH-ENP, both skydive taxi's on my flights, no silhouette showing ( strange i did not noticed that before, as they are both regulars in my flights )
-
Cessna U206G should normally be ICAO C206. OO-HPK and PH-ENP are both however a Soloy turbine conversions which is C06T and are in the d/b as Soloy Cessna U206G Stationair

Hi Rod, is there a silhouette for Gulfstream G280 - may have missed it!
J.D
-
The G280 was originally named G250, but in July 2011 IAI decided to rename it to G280, so the G250 silhouette shall also be valid for the G280. Read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulfstream_G280
At the Updaters Team: Perhaps the Database should be updated too.
-
Hi Ingo,
The d/b is already updated with 10 G280's already in the d/b with the first one being added in April. BTW The G280 received full certification from Israel and the US on September 4th.
Alan
-
ICAO has both G250 and G280 as valid codes, so I've copied the G250 "silhouette" as G280 - they can live together happily!

Rod,
Something different for you this time other than a logo. I've just had this guy D-EPOS come onto my flights for which we have no silhouette. Aircraft details given in the grid are 'GX' for a Remos GX Mirage :
http://www.abpic.co.uk/photo/1292408/
Ian
-
Thanks for that Ian. According to IACO, this can't be a "GX Mirage". The ICAO has three entries for Remos:
REMOS Mirage G3
REMOS G-3 Mirage G3
REMOS GX GX
So as I see it, it's either a GX or a Mirage.
And we have both the G3 and the GX silhouettes already.
Rod
-
Ian/Rod,
The d/b has it as a Remos GX
Alan
-
Rod,
Whatever it is, I probably didn't take note of the silhouette for the GX as it looked to me as if it either would struggle to get in the air or would be unlikely to be seen over here. Could I trouble you to redo please.

No Silhouette.. I do have the latest package from your site Rod.
Any idea why?
regards,
Jason
-
Jason,
It is being operated by a B738 so I would think you have it.
Alan
-
Hi Jason
As Alan implies, the silhouette is generated by the ICAO aircraft type which comes from the database. As long as you have the B738 silhouette in your Silhouettes folder, then the culprit must be your database entry for that particular aircraft.
Rod
-
The aircraft operating SWG626 is C-GKRB which I only added to the d/b yesterday so unless you have downloaded todays Navdata update it will not be showing any info including the ICAO type identifier

It's about time I did a photo silhouette for the CSeries CS100 now that it's flying. The ICAO website doesn't seem to have caught up with it yet, but Airframes has the code as BCS1, so I've done it as that. Bombardier's naming system is awfully cumbersome- apparently it's the BD-500-1A10 CS100.

Morning Rod, is there a standard silhouette for a Phoenix Currie Wot please?
Dave.
-
Hi Dave
The Wot is in the database with an ICAO code of ZZZZ, meaning that it hasn't got a specific ICAO code. I've hunted on the ICAO database and can't find one either, so I'm afraid that even if there was a silhouette, as things stand it would never show.
However you could change the database entries for the two aircraft there from ZZZZ to something else, like WOT, and then the silhouette would be shown. I don't do standard ones, but here's a photo version.

Cheers Rod.

Database has 2544 rows in section actype. This is a very big gap to be closed. But I think we should stay with the established procedure: Posting a missing silhouette as soon as it is spotted in the MyFlights list.
Ingo
-
Hi Ingo
I've got 919, and that includes left-over standard silhouettes. I too have seen that there are many ICAO codes for which we haven't got any sort of silhouette, never mind photo-ones. But I reckon that the missing ones have never shown up on RadarBox, sometimes because they don't have electrical systems for the equipment, and sometimes because there aren't any flying at all.
I haven't got the time or the enthusiasm to fill all the gaps, but I am happy to do new photo-silhouettes when a missing type actually turns up on RadarBox.

Hey Rod, do we have a silhouette for the new bombardier jets?
BCS1 and BCS3
I just had BBA501, C-FBCS show up with no silhouette.
Unless I missed it somewhere.

Jason

Hi Jason
The BCS1 is here: http://www.airnavsystems.com/forum/index.php?topic=1290.msg100043#msg100043 (http://www.airnavsystems.com/forum/index.php?topic=1290.msg100043#msg100043)
Here's a new "silhouette" for the BCS3 - Bombardier CSeries CS-300
-
Hi Rod,
another gap to fill: Hiller UH-12 designator UH12
Thanks Ingo

Hi Ingo - you must have missed my reply to your previous request for this!

Indeed, downloaded but not transfered to the silhouette folders.

It's nearly 11 months since the last photo-silhouettes zip, so here's a new one with all the ones posted since then (reply #595 on the 24th December 2014).

Afternoon Rod,
I've just had a Robinson R66 come onto 'My Flights'. There is no silhouette showing. Can I have a normal non picture silhouette please.
Thanks,
Ian
-
Hi Ian
I don't normally do standard silhouettes, but this is an easy one, so here it is:
R66 - Robinson R-66
-
Thanks Rod,
Ian
-
Hi Rod, I just had a silhouette not populate.
The aircraft type is "PA14"
I did a search for it here in the forum and turned up empty.
Does it exist?
Jason
-
Hi Jason
No - we hadn't got that - here's a photo-silhouette:
PA14 - Piper PA-14 Family Cruiser
-
A158 - Antonov An-158
-
D6SL - Airplane Factory D-6 Sling
-
Rod,
Just had come onto ´My Flights´with full ADSB :
HA-XCN with the type given as a Magnus Fusion (whatever that might be). A silhouette should one exist is required.
Thanks,
Ian
-
Ian,
Some info on the aircraft http://www.bud.hu/english/budapest-airport/media/news/magnus-fusion-natgeo-aircraft-expedition-departs-from-ferihegy-16553.html
Alan
-
Cheers Alan.
Interesting to see it with full ADSB and therefore showing on the map. It was operating at around 1000ft just off the coast at Alicante.
Ian
-
Hi Chaps
The ICAO doesn't appear to have given a code to the Magnus Fusion, so, with only the generic code of ZZZZ, a silhouette will be useless.
Here it is, anyway, in case it gets a code sometime - I've done a logo for the plane, too - see logos thread.
-
Rod,
Thanks for both of those.

Hi Alan, I just wanted to give Rod some work to do :)
J.D

Sure he will appreciate it JD :-))
Alan
-
Hi chaps - thanks for the extra work, but I can't remember what the old code for the Challenger 350 was!
-
Rod,
CL30 and still valid for the Challenger 300
Alan

Here's a new CL35 "silhouette"
-
Rod,
I've just had a Learjet 75 come over without a silhouette. I could have sworn that I already one. Can you do a standard one please.

Hi Rod, picking up a Cessna E530 Scorpion - don't know code for same - showing as ZZZZ
J.D
-
Hi J.D.
no ICAO designator for this modell/type so far. Therefore ZZZZ is correct.
A specific designator for an airframe type is needed to show a type specific silhouette.
Ingo
-
Hi Ingo, thanks for that. wasn't sure if there was a code for it or not.
Cheers
J.D
-
SKYR - Besfoff/Commonwealth/Rearwin Skyranger

Hi Rod, I see you posted a C82T above, but is there a silhouette for a C82S..
I did a search and could not find it.

Hi Rod, any chance of an original style silhouette for this please, Cessna E530 Scorpion?
Thanks, Dave.
-
Hi Dave
I don't really do conventional silhouettes. Also, the Cessna Scorpion doesn't have an ICAO code, so is in the database as ZZZZ, so all other uncoded aircraft with a ZZZ code would show the same silhouette.
-
Gotcha Rod, thanks. Dave.
-
Hello,
my name is Werner and i am new on this Forum.
I hope you can help me.
I missing some photo Silhouettes.
CL65

I know thats a lot of missing aircraft Silhouettes.
Can i create the silhouettes from a normaly picture?
Is that the complete Specification 76x16 and save as bmp ?
thanks
Werner
-
Hello Werner and welcome to the forum.
Two points - first, yes, the specification for silhouettes is 68x16px BMP file, but 76x16px works fine, so that's what I do.
Second - only one of the codes you mention is valid - G200 for the Akrotech/Giles G-200, whatever that is! I use the official ICAO site to check the codes: http://www.icao.int/publications/DOC8643/Pages/Search.aspx (http://www.icao.int/publications/DOC8643/Pages/Search.aspx)
There are many valid codes that we haven't got any silhouettes for, but that's mainly because the aircraft type doesn't fly anywhere that they can be picked up, or that they don't appear on RadarBox anyway - perhaps because they don't have electrical systems or, at least, mode-S transmitters.
Hope that helps.
-
Rod/Werner,
I believe the codes given are ones made up by enthusiasts and below is my interpretation of these codes to what they should be on the official ICAO code list. The may help you Werner.

Hello Rod,
while having a A359 in my list I noticed, that the silhouette is still made of a CGI picture of the airframe. From my point of view it's about time to switch to a "real" picture isn't it?

Hi Alan
Thank you very much.
A qiuestion off topic due to a PC crash I needed to reinstall ANRB software, however the last version available in the site doesn't have 3D as teh one I had (?), do you know where I can get it ?
Thanks, have a nice weekend.
Brgds
-
Carlos,
You may have used V4.03, here is the link the the install file: http://www.airnavsystems.com/download/ANRB/403/ANRB403Setup.exe
But it's possible that you won't get back 3D anyway, as google has withdrawn the 3D Plugin many month (or by now some years) ago.

Hi Ingo
Thanks for info, I'll try that.
Have a nice weekend.

Hi List
Any classic silhouette for Dova DV-1 Skylark (DV1) or I rename the D20 one to DV1 as they are similar ?
Carlos
-
Carlos,
The ICAO Designator D20 doesn't exist (anymore). If you were refering to DV20, that ICAO doens't exist (anymore) either.
The currently valid designator for the Dova DV-1 Skylark or Dova Skylark or Marsden Skylark is -as you already stated- DV1
The ICAO updates/changes the designators by the end of every month. Usually major updates are announced here on the forum.
Ingo
-
DV20 still exists it is the ICOA type designator for the Diamond DA20
Personally I don't think they are very similar https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dova_DV-1_Skylark https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diamond_DA20
Alan
-
Alan is right about the DV20.
Seebs that for me the ICAO DOC 8643 search has had some problems today morning, as it didn't delivered any result for designator DV20.
Thanks for the correction Alan.
Ingo
-
Alan
I agree about DV1, D20 was a typing error for DV20. As I haven't DV1 classic silhouette I thought create a DV20 copy and rename it as DV1 in order to not have a blank space in the interface.
There's any classic silhouette for E550 ?
Carlos
-
Carlos,
Photo one only in reply #681 of this thread.

DV20 and E55P attached

Carlos
-
Hi Carlos
For CL35 copy and rename CL30
For C55B copy and rename C550
Alan
-
Hi Alan
Done. Thanks.
Carlos
-
I see that our E170 photo-silhouette has been relabelled by the ICAO as E75S, which is the code for the 175 with short wings and the ERJ-170-200 with short wings, so that's what I've done.
Perhaps Alan can tell me how the E75L fits in - it just confuses me!
Oh, and here's a G44 (Grumman Widgeon) too
-
Rod,
Very hard to distinguish between E75S and E75L S=Short wing and L=Long wing and refer to the winglets. From the front the E75S has near vertical winglets and the E75L is more around 45 degrees and the changeover from the original designation E170 to E75S and E75L was from around c.n 17000400 but the Type certificate does not list an introduction c/n. The E75l has a newer design winglet which adds around 10ft to the span. The winglet types and hence designations were a bit mixed around the changeover point but we can assume all the ones before 400 are E75S and all after are E75L with a few exceptions.
I hope to find the time to get the E75L's changed over during the week
Alan
-
OK - many thanks for that, Alan.
So as I now understand it we currently have these:
E170 - E170 / ERJ-170-100
E75S - E175 / ERJ-170-200 Short wing
E75L - E175 / ERJ-170-200 Long wing

I'm sorry that you thought that the file was ALL logos - the introductory paragraph on the download page states:
"The zip files contain the latest versions of all the files posted on the forum that are additional to or replace those issued with RadarBox versions 3.13 (2D) and 4.03 (3D) or later versions."
and the file is called "AllNewLogos", not "ALLLogos" - I don't know how I could make it clearer :-)
-
Hi Rod.
By just not reading the small print lol!!!!
Thanks I'm sure that I am not the only one that thought that.

Hello Rod,
I just saw a YK18 without photo silhouette.

Carlos
-
Is there a classic for Airbus A330-743L Beluga XL yet?
Thanks, Dave.
-
Not that I am aware of
Alan
-
just got HB-RIM, the Junkers F-13 replica on my RB, made a silhouette for it still shows ZZZZ as type ( posted in the DB update tread to rectify this )
F13 is in the DB as a type but it seems we don't have a silhouette for it yet, so here's one
it was accompanied by the WACO, we do have a silhouette for that one, but i find it a bit darkish, so for who want, here's a alternative
F13
WACF
-
MX2 - MX Aircraft MX-2
-
G-AYWM, AESL Glos-Airtourer Super 150, no silhouette showing
-
Hi List
Any classic silhouette for Piper M600 and Bombardier Global 7500 ?
Carlos
-
No
Suggest copy and rename P46T and GLEX
Alan
-
Thanks
Carlos
-
working on my DB after my break in the UK last week, i saw i got G-UDET, a Fokker E III replica in my flights, in DB as a ULAC type.
as probably it will never get his own dedicated official code, i made a silhouette named FOE3 for it.
for those who want it to use, you will have to ad a record in the ACTYPE table of the DB to make it show ( do not forget to turn the autoupdate to N, or you will lose it with the first update you perform )
will post a request to Alan in the DB update treat to rename the type in the G-UDET record to FOE3 and add it to the ACTYPE table ( so you don't have to change it manually ) if for any reason this would not be possible, you can always do it "manually" as discrived above.
-
Just noticed that we haven't got this:
Q4 - Northrop Grumman Q-4 Global Hawk series
-
Three 'new' ones:
OSCR - Partenavia Oscar and Charlie
RELI - Stinson Reliant

-
Morning Rod,
Had 2 aircraft come over not showing silhouettes :
PR-ZIQ an E195 -400STD -E2 shown as an E295.
D-MMUG a BRM Aero Bristell NG5 Speedwing shown as an NG5.
It is possible that the silhouettes may have been done already, if not can you please oblige.
Thanks,
Ian
-
Hi Ian
We do have NG5 already, - here it is again.
And we didn't have the other one:
E295 - Embraer E195-E2
-
Thanks Rod,
Ian
-
A new one:
MD52 - MD-520N, MD-530N, MH-6J
-
Just had two P-2012s over on delivery from Italy to Cape Air and noticed a lack of silhouette:
P212 - Tecnam P-2012 Traveller
-
Oh, thanks for mentioning that model, I didn't even know it existed. I even ignored the existence of the company Tecnam... Good to know that there's more aviation companies that keep working and remain operational in Europe, with the disindustrialisation process that has been going on for decades.
-
We may be getting more familiar with Tecnam - Cape Air have plans for 100 Travellers and should have 20 of them by the end of this year, viruses permitting. And Tecnam make a range of smaller planes too.
-
Missed this one:
KMAX - Kaman K-1200 K-Max
-
Replacement for on of the few remaining classic silhouettes:
C335 - Cessna 335
-
And another:
DC91 - Douglas DC-9-10 (not many of these left)
-

TF22 - Taylorcraft F-22
-
And another:
J4 - Piper J-4 Cub Coupe
-
Afternoon Rod,
Just had this come on for which I don't appear to have a silhouette or equivalent. Probably missed it. Can you please oblige :

Thanks,
Ian
-
Here you go Ian, a standard one attached
Alan
-
Thanks Alan.

-
Rod,
It's amazing what can happen when a new president is elected. I've just had a B52 come over registration 60-0008 unfortunately not showing so don't know where it's heading with a flight id of 'IDOL11'. I don't have a silhouette or equivalent for it. can you please oblige ?
Ian
-
Ian
Here is a standard one attached
-
Thanks Alan.
That was quick. First one I've noted over this way. Be afraid, be very afraid!
Ian
-
I'm surprised I hadn't done one before - here's a photo-silhouette version of the B52.
-
it seems we don't have a silhouette for the Lockheed 12A Electra Junior, L12
just had N14999 on my box, nothing showing
here is one
-
Thanks vonsmalhausen.
-
just back home from my trip, and got N14999 again on my box at home, was not happy with the silhouette i made for it, so made a slightly better one.
so here is a replacement for who wants.
-
For anyone that wants it her is a standard silhouette for the L12

I have a few silhouttes not showing on the screen namely A20N, A21N AND B78X even though the silhouetts are in the folder. What do I do to rectify this.
-
Haven't a clue, Andy
I can only suggest that you check that the silhouette files have the correct extension (.bmp). As long as they are in the same folder as the silhouettes that are showing, and you only have one instance of the software on your computer, there's nothing more that I can think of.
You could try downloading them again, (you need to restart RadarBox if you change silhouette files) and if that doesn't work, contact Support.

Thank you for the valued information I didn`t realise I had to restart my air nav

maybe i missed it somewhere, but the Beech B100 King Air seems to mis a silhouette.
just had N830DB on screen, nothing showing for B100, so i made this one, if it is already been done, then i must have missed it and just ignore this one.
as B100 is a error, i renamed it to BE10, for those who want this version of the silhouette
-
The ICAO code should be BE10 not B100
Alan
-
I already found it strange we did not have a silhouette for such a common plane.
Then it must be a typo in the DB, as there is B100 as type there.
-
There is no B100 ICAO code in the aircraft database. Can you advise which aircraft has that code showing. The N830DB you mention has BE10 as its ICAO code as can be seen on the attached straight from the server
Alan
-
I am not at home now, will look it up tomorrow.
-
here is a screenshot from "my log" of yesterday, as you can see it is mentioning B100 as A/C type, i have now changed it manually in my DB to BE10
-
They are BE10 in my Navdata and checking the server have been like that since entry on 17/5/21. But at least you have it sorted
Alan
